Forget Goddard ... Get Lenny Hayes

Agree. I reckon he would add more value than BJ even though he is older by a few years.

A playing/coaching role like Junior or Power at the Giants would be very appealing.

I love how you think we should get Lenny, presumably because of his skills and values, and yet that would involve leaving the club he has given his heart and soul to and coming to us.

Don't want sound like a wet blanket, but why even bother starting these sort of threads?

Umm, what makes Lenny Hayes "heart and soul values" any different from Goddards? Or from Chad Cornes' or Luke Power's or Brett Kirk's?

Nothing. Just degrees of perception.

It would be a bold move, but not an unattractive one to offer Lenny Hayes a 4-year playing/coach type role in the twighlight of his career. Along with Trengove, Watts and co, we are in all likelihood about to draft a couple of bluechip young midfielders in the November draft. What an exciting challenge it would be for him to work on-field with these kids for a couple of years and then continue on with a coaching apprenticeship once he hangs up the boots.

Just as exciting as being at GWS or GCS and he wouldn't have to move interstate!

You've got to be in it to win it ... and in an 18-team compeition you've most certainly got to start thinking outside of the square. And less like a wet blanket.

Would love him for a couple of years.

Great of the game.

Surely the Saints will give him enough to get him around again?

No doubt, but would they offer him a further two years of guaranteed employment?

Brian Royal's contract is up if I'm not mistaken. A Lenny Hayes could come and take on that position in a dual-type playing/midfield coach role over a four-year period.

Definitely food for thought. Imagine the impact in club culture and developing our leaders.

Players of the ilk of Lenny Hayes are very proud individuals and there are reasons they elevate themselves above 95% of their peers. Lenny Hayes will always want to remain a one club player and that's the way it should be.

Even though I find the notion of recruiting a player that will be 33 next year ridiculous, more to the point I'd hate to see Lenny wearing any other club's colours. However it won't be an issue anyone will have to confront.

EDIT: I need to clarify something. If Lenny Hayes was at odds with his club and wanted to play on and had the chance to go to a club that was a genuine premiership threat I'd be very surprised, but I suppose one could understand it.

5 years ago Lenny Hayes would have been awesome, now it just sounds like a Chapman type recruitment scenario. Neither player would want to come here and why would want either one, we'd may as well persuade Green into another year that was the case. A no from me.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
