Cloke and Collingwood - to part or not to part?

Plenty of Pies fans calling SEN absolutely filthy on Cloke for dragging this out.

Nice to see another club go through what we went through with you-know-who.

Even better that it's the Filth.

He is every chance to be boo'd by his own if he doesn't perform I reckon.

Thought I would go to Nick's page for some light reading on Cloke's contract here is what I read.

I posted this in another thread but I decided it needs a thread of its own..

Cloke is gone and won't be staying on in 2013..

I asked my source if i could post it and he ddnt mind, as it's not his brothers player...

My source is paul Connors brother who works with me..

He told me the pies offered him 750 to 800k per year over 4 years..they increased the deal to 900k but it was heavily based on performance..

Pies basically said take it or leave, as they had other players to sign up and wanted clokes form to increase ASAP.

Clokes rejected it and pies have conceded he is gone..

How u would say Paul connors knows this, well he just signed up Reid and was told that they have the money Reid wants now.. And that they will be hunting for players

I am happy Cloke is gone to be honest, as long as we use the picks well...

Expect Cloke to continue to play like crap til seasons end me thinks.

Once again guys take it as u will..time will tell that I am correct..

Very interesting, thanks for posting CFH.

Don't know who this 'Nick' is but if his source is Paul Connors' brother it's not a bad tip.

I am beginning to think we are very much in the race for his signature now.

Huge roll of the dice by Neeld and co this one. I can understand though why he'd elect to go for it. He knows he'll be under pressure if we're sitting 3-8 with little improvement by mid-season 2013. He's going to see an influx of top-end young talent through the draft but while they develop he's going to need wins to placate the restless natives.

A Cloke/Clark forward line set up will make us 25% more competitive straight away.

I reckon we're a strong chance to get him.

CHF what you have said has been said on bigfooty a bloke saying he works at Telstra with Connors bro but he indicate he will pick Carlton because of Malthouse possibly going there but ive also heard he is Close mates with Neeld and Brown. Only time will Tell.

Don't remember all the circumstances around his father leaving Richmond for Collingwood, but it helped bring that club down; it would devastate Collingwood. Don't quite know why he is holding out for not a huge difference in offers, and the prospects of Olympic Gold for the magpies.

Surely Cloke isn't staying at the pies now. Where he ends up who knows? If the bombers and Carlton miss the 8 and the Pies lose the flag and Cloke at least there will be some positives from this season.

It looks to me like the Blues are putting they're Irons in the rack, readying for the draft & an Early Preseason.

Dont want to be Captin obvious but some of the facts:

1. Both Dees and freo have offered Cloke big contracts with Dees offering by far the most of any club someting like 1.1 over 6-7 years

2. Pies can only offer 4 with with about 800k max.

3. Carlton have shown interest but require Murphy, Judd, Kruzer, Robinson, Gibbs, Jamison all to take pay cuts to get him there!

4. If Cloke really never had any interest in the prospect of coming to the Dees he would of signed immediatley

5, There is still the possibilty of him staying with the Pies, but history tells who wants to have something like this hanging over your head? Ablett, Scully, Ward and co let it drag on until seasons end to inform the were leaving for $$

So im guessing he is seriously thinking about the MFC offer!!!! I would too

Who said Car'ton haven't brought out the paper bags yet???

Just because it's not public Knowledge doesn't mean it's not on. Even if they act like nothings happened Yet. Has Malty got an In Principle agreement???

I hope they do sign Malthouse and I hope it turns out to be Pagan Mach II for them.

Good, lets make the Blues blow a CardBoard gasket. Then let them chew on it.

We can see what floats free from they're Greed.

#Edit: I reckon I'd rather Offer Big $$$$$$ to Drew Petrie.

Tonight I heard on Channel Nine that Travis Cloke has said he is putting all discussion about his contract on hold until the end of the season.

Now that just rings to me of I am leaving Collingwood.

How often have we heard that in the last few years only to have the person announce I am off to a different club the day after the season ends.

He is going to Carlton is my tip.

What say you all?

They would say that would they not?

But you may be right

Maybe they said come see us when you play half a dozen good games.

Whatever way I look at it they do not have the ability to pay what he wants.

They are other players wanting to sign but are being held back by Cloke's demands.

Interesting times for the CFC.

Same, at least he can play!

Clokes a big girl, gotta laugh at him complaining to the umps because he cant get a kick.

Stan Alves and Robert Walls hit the nail on the head, wise old men.

Can only hope Carlton land this Mummys boy - will fit in well with Gibbs.

Cloke's performance will improve from here and almost lift the Pies to the flag.

Then to the Dees... Cloke and Clark hmmm

That's a lot of money we are allegedly offering.

Hope he's worth it, because what we need most is experienced, quality MIDFIELDERS.

Anyone for Sewell, Chappy, Goddard or Montagna? Imagine if we picked up 2 or 3 of these..... *drools down chin*

Petrie has only had a handful of good games over several seasons AND we would need to give up draft picks or good players for him.

Clokes value is probably 500k or so higher because we give nothing in return to the filth.

I was having a think about it before, teams who do not participate in FA miss out the most as theoretically every time a player changes hands compensation picks are created out of thin air by the AFL. Teams who do not participate by taking players or losing players miss out altogether on there cut and the benefits of these compensations created on the fly by the AFL.

Rodney Eade on Insider said his club has put the statement out and are putting contract talks on hold. "Read into it any way you like", no one at the club is adding any further.

I've always thought this year as long as Cloke hasn't signed, he and Malthouse would make a good marriage of sorts at Carlton if Ratten struggled this season, for some reason.

Another thing that caught my ear on Insider later in the program was when discussing Mitch Clark as most important player at Melbourne, Eade added "I think you'll find that going further, going forward I think he (Clark) will become the second ruck."

Wonder if Eade knows more than he's letting on...... .

Apart from a couple of $100k per year (remember he's being offered $800k by the Filth, more by Freo and prob about the same by the Poos), why the hell would Cloke even think about coming to Melbourne?

Been near the bottom for years, likely to stay there, just breaking even from donations, list full of very average kids, train next to the Filth and attract 15 people and a couple of sea gulls to each game.

Given his FA options, I doubt it.

A categorical NO to this if it is true - too much money and too many years - a match by match performance based contract at best!

Also, working under Neeld may appeal to him.

How about from here on in we give everyone - from the coach to the bootstudder - one year deals and if they don't peform we sack them?

That would accord with your view would it not Hardnut?

These compensation picks for teams losing players to FA is the AFL adding currency out of nothing.

I hope Bates manager scores him a good enough contract to get us a late 2nd round pick.

We should be as active as possible in FA to get our share of this extra currency the AFL is pumping into the system.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
