Who do we think will be lined up against Petrie this weekend?

I know he isn't the main threat from the Kangaroos* but you would assume that the Kangaroos' midfield dominance (wish it wasn't true) will be spoon feeding him so who is the best match up?

* - When Petrie has played well the Kangaroos have looked really good, although I'm not sure which is the by-product of the other.

Frawley for me, can run off and has the body to match up with Petrie. Possibly Sellar if he comes back in and Frawley is thrown on Edwards or Thomas.

I wish I cared

Sellar should be at full forward this week if last week has taught us anything, so he's out. McDonald doesn't have the strength and Garland will be in the VFL. Frawley is the only other option.

Petrie gave praise to Alex Rance after kicking 7 on him so for me it really doesn't matter. If Drew kicks 10 and applaudes one of our players for a grand effort then we should all be happy.

Frawley should easily account for Petrie. Wont kick more than 3 IMO.

Per quarter?

Per quarter?

For the game. Petrie is on a hot streak of playing above himself very similar to those of Jack Riewoldt, the definitive outcome of these streaks however... is that they come to an end.

Frawley is the man for the job.

It seems we usually help good teams that are struggling play back into form. (eg St Kilda)

And occassionally we put a stop to a teams run. (eg Essendon)

Hopefully this week will be the latter with North, Petrie included.

We just lost to Port in Darwin, the first time in 3 games there, and you think we'll beat North at Etihad?.... Hmmmmmmm

Oh and by the way we haven;t beaten them in something like 10 outings. Good weekend for mowing the lawn..

Petrie kicking 3 goals or less doesn't automatically mean that North Melbourne will lose.

Was replying to Robot Devil, sorry Deez probably should have quoted his post.

lol @ "I wish I cared"

It's a bit like that.

I like Petrie, wouldn't mind if he snagged a bag.

SO what would you say is the reason we dont win many games?

If we stop Petrie, you can bet some nobody hack would bob up and kick 5. Who even heard of this Port kid who ripped us apart before Saturday night?

We are North's [censored], and it kills me to say it, because I hate North and their [censored] shineboner spirit garbage.

We could put Steven Silvagni on him, it's not going to stop him, because their midfield is going to annihilate ours and deliver the ball on a platter to him.

Frawley will start on him. Best defender on best forward. Can't see why he wouldn't take him. But it's going to take a team effort to stop him.

Drew is playing in a way that reminds me of our past great 'Neita'

If Chip keeps him to four it will be a phyric victory for our best player

CHIP is that player

The amount of times the ball comes in perfectly for his opponents it's amazing how well he does

I know he has the odd brain fade but nothing as visually depressing as Garlo's off the ground effort last week

Frawley, with Tom Mac dropping off to help out when possible.

Chips still our best defender and his AA abilities are still in there, I've said it many times but being a defender for Melbourne is the toughest job in the AFL because our midfield has very little defensive pressure and they don't give the guys anything to kick to outside the 50.

Also Rivers must go back to defense and STAY there, I've liked a fair bit about Neeld (including Col Garland as a forward) but for me the experiment for Rivers is over. He is a defender, a good one, he is not a forward.

Good player is Petrie when injury free. If you go through the sides with tall key forward(s) it emphasises how important they are for structures. Two key forwards are even more imposing: -

Hawthorn - Roughead, Franklin (partly Hale)

Sydney - Reid, Goodes

Adelaide - Tippet, Walker

Collingwood - Cloke , Dawes (eventhough currently out of form) - occassionally Jolly

Geelong - Hawkins, Podsiadly

...

...

And with very, very good (did I say very) midfields they are even more imposing. Petrie is standing up for North Melbourne, if they had McIntosh fit they would be a handful for the top teams.

North's forward line since being flogged by Hawthorn in Tassie has actually started to fuinction well and is pretty imposing.

Petrie, Tarrant, Hansen as talls, with Harper, Adams and Thomas as smalls... then you have players like Harvey who seems to play well against us as well...

Hansen I didn't rate all that much, but he and Tarrant are keeping Edwards out of the side at the moment.

Frawley and Tom McDonald to rotate between Petrie and Hansen, with Rivers on Tarrant.

Not confident this week, North are playing well, and pushing for spot in the bottom half of the eight, our injuries, and playing after Darwin (even though the conditions don't sound as bad as normal) will make it tough to back up...

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
