I get it.. this like a game of Guess Who?

Are you Jason Mifsud?

An obvious marketing decision has been made and now you want to make it racist?

What, every time a player from the best list at Casey gets promoted on merit as well as fulfilling a positional need, it's a marketing decision?

Of course not.

But in an isolated situation, such as this ... join the dots.

I can't really wear "He was in the bests last week" line of argument. Davis was also. Morton the week before, and I am pretty sure Gysberts was a couple of weeks ago and Cook has been in the bests this year. Those guys didn't get promoted back into the team.

If Jetta had of been picked for a game in Melbourne this week, I still would have benn questioning the decision to promote him so quickly, however, I probably would not have had such a slanted view on it.

My point is that the OP seems to be making inferences that it is a race based decision.

The same sort of scurrilous info that Jason Mifsud distributed.

So Bate should call his lawyer?

Knowing Mark Neeld personally, there is no way on this planet he is giving anyone a game because of their colour.

You have got to be kidding me.......and for those "absolutely non-racists" amongst us who have even the tiniest bit of "well maybe a little bit" in them, go hire Samson & Delilah and rethink your stance

Posted

I watched Samson and Delilah and it left me shattered.

Must say I've never met an Aboriginal that I didn't like.

Anyone ever read about the history of John Batman-founder of Melbourne.

There are some very good reasons he is not glorified.

Luckily he died young from Syphillis .

It's not an isolated situation at all, except in the minds of those such as yourself who see it as a "marketing" decision...pray tell just what it is that we are marketing in playing a guy from West Australia in Darwin? Or does your mind work in such a way that you see our club assuming that any indigenous player will be a major draw card in Darwin? Rather than joining dots, you seem to have put one and one together and come up with three.

Davis and Cook are yet to debut at AFL level, Morton has been getting a lot of chances lately and doesn't have the versatility of Jetta, which is probably something working in Jetta's favor at he moment, and as I mentioned before, Gysberts has apparently been having stamina issues and is probably in a much more secure position as far as his future at the club is concerned.

I think it is a bit of a concern that you are calling out the club for promoting a player too soon purely because of his aboriginality, as if this is going to give us some edge in support. This is not the indigenous round and Jetta is from WA so the thought that this was some sort of marketing ploy, never entered my head... I prefer to believe he is considered fit enough to play, particularly if he is coming on as the sub.

Why, is there a community of Ginga's up there?

Anyway it's very racist to assume that Bater is not indigenous. I'll wager no-one here knows if he is or he isn't

We are playing games up in Darwin and visiting rural indigenous communties during the week in the build up to the game, and we have previously had a strong aboriginal presence in our team with the likes of Jurrah and Davey.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know whether LJ is heading up with the team. I think I read/heard somewhere that he really gets a bit of a kick out of these community visits and given that he's due up in the NT mid week anyway I thought it might have been good for him to be part of the team spirit etc.

Anyone know?

Don't his bail conditions state that he is not allowed out of Melbourne? Know he went to Sydney, but, and I may be wrong, I think the club had to apply for permission, so if he's ,not playing, that may not be possible.

I'm pretty sure he got permission. There are other team commitments other than playing though.

Then again, you're probably right. May not want to tempt fate with this one.

If you have a look at the ins and outs the replacements seem to fit in with a like for like with the outs.

Also, I think Gysberts and Jetta returned around the same time, I can't recall if Gysberts has been named in best where I can with Jetta.

And it's a yes from me..

I am pretty sure Gysberts back a couple of weeks longer than Jetta, and he had a broken jaw, which should not have limitedhim in terms of fitness and skill work.

Also, I think it is widely accepted around this place that our midfield sucks, so nobody can tell me that trying Gysberts would not be a reasonable option. We get smashed in the middle every week.

For the record.

Casey in a win over Sandy.

Best Players: E. Panozza, J. Gysberts, J. Strauss, S. Martin, R. Plummer, T. Smith

As thrilling as the discussions over the meaning of "race" and then "contemporaneous" were, they have now exited the thread. Let's try and at least keep to the topic just a little bit.

Indigenous to Scotland maybe?

Careful Biffo, you'll get your post deleted if you get too intellectual :o

No offence intended DC but I've checked with his Primary school and he is actually from Sumatra.

You may not know this but J.Viney shed close to 8kgs post broken jaw - same game Gysberts broke his jaw. Viney lost some conditioning. I gather Jordan would have too - so it would have limited his fitness. I saw Gysberts play against Werribee and he was literally out on his feet and was kept quiet. Quite telling. Numerous interchanges gasping for oxygen.

He looks to have conditioned himself better of late and his numbers are on the rise. But my point stands with regards to the like for like in and outs for this week.

I'm sure he will get a run soon enough.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
