Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JIMMY TOUMPAS

Nup not happy at the time and still not happy but as I have said if the go home factor is correct it is just one of many reasons we should not have gone near him>

Um the other is WINES CAN PLAY not seen anything to suggest this bloke can!

You didn't provide any reasons, other than the 'go home factor', to which Toumpas has responded.

So, in fact, on the only reason you had for not drafting Toumpas, you were, like usual, wrong.

Still hold high hope for jimmy he is still a young guy but wow you just don't know what is going to happen till you put them in the big smoke. My new draft rule would be go for the inside mid every time with top end talent and you have a great shot at landing the best mid

Then you have Nate Fyfe.

The problem with sweeping statements with the draft is that they fall apart very easily. People saying they'd listen to the 10% in future after the Wines pick are ignoring that they'd then be barracking for a Strauss/Cook type pick up.

How about we do something as outrageous as support our young player who loves the place and has got to be EASILY the most mis-managed player at this club… since Jack Watts came to the MFC. He was handled so poorly through his first few games that that, combined with the rubbish side he has to play in and consistent injury interruptions means there's no wonder he's had a slow start to his career.

Has things to work on in his game but certainly not one to rule a line through. Hoping for big things from JT next season.

So, in fact, on the only reason you had for not drafting Toumpas, you were, like usual, wrong.

1 Two hip operations ( which have affected his pace)

2 Our greatest need for strong inside mid was palpably and culpably ignored ( and don't throw up Jack Viney) because you know who is miles ahead of him.

3 So if there is interest and it seems that there may be, and it's mutally beneficial, given what Roos has said anyone is up for grabs then does that same "I wanna play for Melb" really become so compelling??.

4 Is he really that good an outside mid? I mean other than a game or two where he played well has he really shown us anything other than cameos?

5 Before his appendix he was struggling to get a game in the ones at Casey, which do I need to remind you all, were absolutely shizen all year!

As usual I am right on the money my friend and no amount of "FAIRY FLOSS" will sugar coat what has been yet another disastrous blunder by our recruiting dept!

The point is Fence, you're saying this after the fact, not back then so STFU FFS.

You'll feel much more at home in the Wines Lounge. If it helps start a Newton Lounge as well (you know you want to!).

Nup gave one reason as an example "Go Home" but really I was always an in an under fan not a outside receiver fan so really Oliie for me was a "No Brainer" But mate continue to push the dodgy "for" rationale basket, as wobbly and feeble as it is!

and you should know about having no brain.

And as usual, if your logic won't suffice "attack the man" seems to be your typical response!

Now where were we?? oh that's right Jimmy Toumpas, hnmm needs to show a bit!

I'd give plonket a full moon for dissing a guy that has had interrupted start to his career and was universally picked above Wines. So much for backing the club.

Hindsight is bull [censored].

You have no logic.

Tell us who we will take in this years draft, plonket? You think you are a recruiter in the making, drinking your own bathwater. Come on.

HO ho Plonket! I like it "Plonket Fence" very good Moo,

I do have some ideas, but would rather wait till after the Grand Final when almost all delistings have been made and we know the Status of our request for Draft assistance and the Frawley draft pick information relative to compenstaion is known. Then I would be happy to give you the "Foresight' of my "Recruiting" Acumen, based on players who I think we should target. Shall we call it the "Plonket Fence Phantom Draft?

Oh one other thing, you really do need to stop drinking that cheap "Bowlers Run" wine

Goody, I wait with (foul) baited breath. You're all over this like a nasty rash, so I'll leave you to your wide screen draft watching and hot bubble bath. Please let us all know when it's up, the phantom draft, that is, so that we can congratulate you.

Fancy using quotation marks for yourself! Next you'll start referring to yourself in the 3rd person! Oh wait, does the "Plonket Fence Phantom Draft" cover this?

Bwahahahaha!!!

anyway back to the thread,

Jimmy Toumpas needs to have a stellar uninterrupted pre season and everything needs to go right next year, assuming he is still with us!

Other than that Tom Mitchell used to live with Roosy, that should give him a head start, after all didn't whatshis name use to live with the Viney's?

Disagree, working on the assumption he is staying, all I think jimmy needs to do is lock down a spot in the seniors, I don't think he needs miracles just yet, Watts and Trengove have been given 4 and 3 more years to show something, Jimmy deserves a little faith

a lot of good players don't show heaps in their first couple of years, but he certainly needs to show obvious improvement, but I don't believe any person at the club would make the decision that Jimmy hasn't done enough because of what Ollie Wines is doing.

Pity we even have to think about making that decision. If we had drafted the right player our midfield would be looking far stronger.

we have made a lot of errors, there is no denying it really, hopefully Jimmy can make up some ground in 2015, not on Wines but at least win over some respect in the footy world in his own right, I think Wines is just going to keep getting better unfortunately

so ahhh... all things aside...and certainly no comparing to Ollie....just in his own right, was he really a #3 pick ?

put it this way BB, every team that passed up Ollie including GWS and the Bulldogs are seriously regretting it

he is easily the best player from that draft and imo better than O'meara

of course he is. And that is why Todd Viney should have known better. Sadly Todd has soured his name a little for me because of this. We had the inside info above all other clubs, but recruited a kid who had just had double hip surgery.

I had Physio for 10 years as a kid because my hips were shot.

I think that is why i am so bewildered by the decision.

It will be a miracle if Jimmy gets his pace back, his hips are damaged.

I somehow doubt that when assessing potential draftees, your physical condition and medical history carries much weight with AFL recruiters

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
