I wonder how many Ambassadorial roles Carlscum have up their sleeves ?

I still hold a slightest hope we can maybe convince him,,,,, IF it's already not too late. If he's not already committed on paper to another.

If we don't get him, I'd hope we'd chase Cassisi &/or Salopek &/or Surjan if they're still available, (as I don't know if they've signed new contracts this year).

We need 2 or 3 mature mids who can give us a couple of years of solid service & a healthy attitude. Breaking one of my rules here as I prefer & believe that mature players should Ideally be sought out of Winning Professional cultured Clubs.

But we need @ least a couple.

The new coach at Port whoever it's going to be will learn pretty quickly just how bad Port are. If boak is leaving then i'm sure the new coach would love to start their time at Port with pick 4.

If we give up Pick 4 for Boak, I would like Westhoff aswell for a player or later pick. Or no deal!

We need light footed quick midfielders. I would prefer too pass on Boak and get Clinton Young in Free Agency.

"Travis Boak is on the verge of signing a deal that would see him play at Geelong for the next three years."

Can someone tell me how Boak can simply choose to play for the Cats like that? Or is that line just a newspaper headline grabber?

Surely he'll have to run the gauntlet of other club who put in bids for him to Port?

I have a sick feeling we are going to give up pick 4 for Boak.

Possibly Neeld sees the Scully comp as a way of getting back what we lost - a quality mid with a few years in the system.

I think we could arrange something that would trump Geelong without including Pick 4 but that would grab PAs attention and throw Geelong out of the game.

I hope you're right. Boak is quality but pick 4 is top dollar and then some.

Then again, Neeld can't afford to not be competitive in 2013. If that's his thinking then hopefully we can come up with a pick-swap type compromise along the lines of what Jose Mourinho suggested - Picks 4 and 12 for pick 7 and Boak. That has merit.

I agree, also don't forget Port can't afford to be too picky either... Boak will have his preference, and Port will attempt to entertain that, or say we will assist you in a trade back to Victoria, but not necessarily to club X.

The lowest ranked Melbourne side will obviously be the most appealing option to Port given that there are several good SA boys expected to go high in the draft. If they can snag 4 from us, and end up with 4, 5 and 12. These are picks that could secure the likes of Tompas, Grundy and Kennedy. It would be a handy injection of talent for a new coach.

Edit: Where does pick 7 come from? Aren't they just ahead of us on the ladder meaning they would have pick 5? (or do they have a compo pick?)

We assumed the Bullies would be worse than PA as they have a 'follow the first pick in the draft' compensation pick for Callan Ward.

The Bullies may be our ally if they feel Boak is an unnecessary luxury when they should be concentrating on recruiting a forward line.

Ahhh thanks for that. Didn't actually realise Doggies were on the same as Port....

This is exactly the reason why coaches shouldn't have ultimate control over list management decisions. Boak isn't that good and he would cost us high draft picks and command a big salary.

You are assuming that Neeld will make that deal or wants to make that deal.

The club has a List Manager in Harrington and I am sure that Neeld will be rebuffed if he tries to do a stupid deal but let's face it - we have little talent, and the talent we do have is young.

I would go hard for Boak and Cloke and Sewell and whoever else can contribute (at the right price).

He's a good player. It's not for no reason that Chris Scott and Joel Selwood flew to Adelaide for talks with him.

He is currently B+ but could develop into an A-grader under the right tutelage. I don't mind if he costs us pick 12 or even pick 7 if we can work that 4 & 12 for 7 & Boak deal with Port.

Boak should be a prime target for us.

He does play in a crap side too. We all say on here how good would Jones be in a good side well I guess the same rule applies with Boak. C'mon think about it Boak,Jones,Viney,JT. Now that's a McHappy meal.

Boak doesn't want to play for us and we would have to pay him too much. We would be better of using our salary cap space to pay overs for free agents such as Cloke or Goddard or further front loading the contracts of our current players.

He has never stated this.

No he hasn’t, but it is pretty obvious that he would rather play for either Geelong or Port Adelaide. To land him we would have to cough up an obscene amount of money and beat the market in terms of draft picks/players to satisfy the Power. I would love to see Boak in a demon jumper but not at the cost which would be required.
