Viney to Boak to Clark. I like the sound of that.

Get him!

Proven goal kicking midfielder who would thrive from the hard work of Magner and McKenzie.

Did I mention he was proven? Whilst the kids this year in the draft may look good, remind me how our history of using high draft picks has turned out again..

We need mature age, plug and play. Boak is that. If we can get it done with our mid first round and a player, do it. If not pick 4 wouldn't bother me.

It's wasn't the picks sloonie, it's was our football style direction back then, that directed us to take those types of outside runners.

We've changed coaches & gamestyle, remarkably to a very sound contested footy style.

Outside runners/ inside mids- whatever we drafted, for whatever reason, none of them have really worked out, have they?

Let's not make this a thread on past draft woes, keep it Boak centric. We should chase him, and I elieve we are in the box seat with our picks.

Carlton should be targetting Cloak and I think he should be their main target. I think we are in the box seat for Boak and we don't necessarilly have to please him- we have to please Port- which we can do.

Beggars can't be choosers- he wants to return to Vic- we will provide that whilst compensating his former club nicely. Done deal

Not disagreeing with the thought of getting Boak, but this is a bit of a myth

His season tallies of goals:

2008 9

2009 7

2010 13

2011 12

Just found this article:

http://www.adelaiden...3-1226420307085

Confirms much of what I was saying and heard from a certain palyer manager this morning.

Love it how Rucci makes the jump from "leaving Port" to "heading to Geelong" with no thought of the in-between need for an actual trade. If he forced their hand and went to the draft I would take him with pick 13 which will be before Geelong's first pick assuming they don't trade for an earlier one - call his bluff this time doubt he will sit out for a year like Ball threatened to.

Posted

Now where have I heard that before?

He's gone. Hopefully we make a decent play for him. Pick 13 and Tapscott would be a fair-ish deal.

Tapscott? I don't think so - very much a required player.

Posted

another classic trade...player nominates a club he has no chance of getting to. Leaves other clubs to pay well over the top for him.

I'm not into Paying Overs with our future development... MidPick or nothing.

We need a lot more than just Boak.

--------------------------------------

Not yet, But Jones as you can see is just hitting his straps. It takes time for some. Frawley took about 3.

Our problem has been being in the draft on the wrong years,,, &/or we've taken the skilled but immature physically.

Watts is just starting to show, something, & should have been in the magoos until this year.

We've IMO, made a couple of Blunders with a P4 from the previous recruiters who shall remain nameless but ended up @ the Tigs.

And Benny, but the Jet will be 'OK', IMO.

4) If he says he's leaving before being out of contract.... then Port will trade him where they see fit...he will have no say in it. (Correct me if I am wrong)

5) If he shuts up until he is out of contract he can go where he wants in the draft(Correct me if I am wrong also)

....................

Makes no difference. To get to his club of choice, he needs to be traded; whether he speaks up now or later is immaterial.

To go into the ND or PSD, he can only stipulate his financial requirements, not location of the club - so he risks going to GWS or GC. If MFC stays 3rd last or lower, they are a reasonable chance of getting Boak through the draft, as GC is downsizing and trying to keep its young guns.

Having said that, as mentioned earlier, Port is unlikely to do a "Nick Stevens" again, so will be looking to get what they can for him (and you'd think Boak would want Port to get decent compensation).

Comes down to where he wants to go. MFC has the best draft picks/compensation on offer; they must now convince him to come to the club. They convinced Clark, so you never know. We certainly have more coin to offer; seeing Geelong slide down the ladder would you'd think help our cause as well.

Ed. Of course, if Geelong slide low enough, their first pick gets a whole lot better.

I see a lot of Dane Swan in Trav Boak.

He'll be a star, don't worry about that.

Of course he is but do you think Port will be interested in one of our NQR's? Not a chance. They will ask for pick 4 straight off the bat.

Port will expect us to give up something of value to get their second best player.

To put it into perspective though Moloney's never kicked 10 or more in a season for us and Boak is about on par with Jones for how many he has kicked. I can't think of any other midfielders on our list who can kick regular goals (Trengove last year but not this year).

Bah! Not when Trav Boak is available.

Tapscott will never be able to exert a comparable influence on a match.

And I wouldn't call those guys Goal Kicking Mids either

My point that for a goal kicking mid, he hasn't kicked many goals thus far

I understand that Boak ...

There's a 9 page Boak thread near the top of the first page but we need a new one?

I'd be happy to give Port pick 4, if we are confident of getting Jack Viney at pick 12.

It leaves us with pick 3 to get another really good quality midfielder, and in one draft we could probably resolve our biggest issue, with 2 ready made players and one you would assume would grow into a very good player.

Yeah that's fair - I would still prefer Caddy he seems to have a bigger build and seems more of a goalkicker but if Boak is available for our mid first round comp pick after having ruled out Caddy then I wouldn't be unhappy to get him. Wouldn't really want to pay pick 4 though (unless we can get Viney in 2nd round) and would want to rule out Caddy first. No reason we can't make a play for both though and see what happens.

Pick *12 is the 2nd of our compo picks, Jaded. We can only pick up Viney with our first round pick (pick *3) or second round pick (~pick whatever no. that is..)

*Assuming we finish 16th....

Damn, I keep forgetting we can't use compo picks to bid for F/S.

Well the scenario still applies, if we think we can get Viney for our second round pick, then I'd be very happy to give up pick 4 for Boak. He's a known quantity, draft picks aren't.

I wouldn't be unhappy getting Boak either.....at the right price

Not worth Pick 4 IMO

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
