Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What absolute self-serving rubbish. Ignore all evidence to the contrary and decide that they listened to you. How important you must be. That's it - the players were allowed to play rather than finally deciding as a group to put in. Yep. That's it.

Yes it was embarrassing for Hardnut. Big plate of humble pie was put in front of him at the din-dins table but his ego refused to let him eat it.

'Jackie' has disappeared faster than a fart in a fan factory.

If you're gonna beat one team (that's not Collingwood)...

Amazing... Great day at the football. Every bit the memorable night that the Freo game in 2008 was.

It's Carlton that I want to beat. And to see Mitch Robinson and Eddie Betts finish the game literally covered from head to toe in bruises.

No I am here RR and am overjoyed. Hard night celebrating. I have always said we still have a good list and last night proved they can play. And that our supposed lack of fitness is all bull. And Neeld was never the bone of our problems as I have said many times. And finally the forwards played like forwards. Its all on the record. The players showed they can play and hope the demons of last year are starting to evaporate. As for the political stuff, my opinion is unchanged.

Agree entirely, it was good contested footy, but there were no complicated plans - that's why it worked! My reference to free flowing was meant to mean the players were free to follow their natural instincts, which is also good.

Perhaps someone at MFC is listening at last.

Matthew Lloyd said a similar thing on the Sunday Footy Show.

I dont understand the vitriol being thrown at hardnut. Their has definitely been a slight change in direction the last 2 weeks. Although still a defensive style when in dispute the strategy is definitely a simpler game style offensively which allows players to when they have the ball a bit more freedom in how they use it.

I liked some of Tapscott's efforts.

Likewise, he's been one of my worries. I've always been confident about Gysberts and Blease and encouraged by Strauss in the last month before breaking his leg but Tapscott (beyond his obvious physical attributes) has failed to show that he will be able to find a consistent role at the top level. Last night, however, there was some really positive signs. Hope with a solid, injury-free run he can consolidate a spot. I'm still not sure where I prefer him though - forward or back?

Stuff the lid! The genie's out of the bottle. It aint going back.

Whilst I love the attitude we are still going to have some teething problems. The most important thing is us supporters know how good the vision is and how we must stick by them. That effort is the benchmark I want that every week but I'm realistic enough to say what we are doing isn't perfect YET. We can't get all negative when we have a loss- it'll happen just remember how good it worked tonight because I've never ever felt that sort of relief/ euphoria in my whole life than that final siren!

My Highlights for the game

  • Col Garland marking in the Forward Line
  • Rivs bump then desperation tap on.
  • Magners mark in the 4th quarter where he out bodied his player into a second Bomber and then gave his opp player a bit of lip as he run past.
  • Dunns tackle on Melksham
  • Grimes clearance out of the centre in the 4th quarter
  • Sylvia's inside work
  • T Macdonald's pickpocket of Alwyn
  • Sellar and Mckenzies Spoils in the defensive 50
  • Watts game against all his opponents
  • Neelds early reaction
  • Hird's confusion and disbelief in the Box

I could go on and when I rewatch the game for the fifth time I will probably see more.

Great game by the boys really good ball movement going forward then really good defensive pressure. Go the Dees!

I am in Bali at the moment and this is the first match I have missed this season. The Australian channel here was showing the Carlton vs Port Adelaide game and I was keeping track of the score on my iPhone via Footy Live. I was so happy I thought I was going to burst. I jumped up and down on the bed and shed a tear or two. I sang the song with great gusto. Well done boys - very, very proud. I have recorded the game so can't wait to watch it when I get home.

The icing on the cake was seeing Carlton get smashed.

I don't mind arguments about game plan and all that, but god, it is just a bad joke atm. Once we are actually trying, then Hardnut can argue about the rest. As if letting the players free meant that they put in! Self-serving distortions of really annoy me.

Good to hear Jack.

You're entitled to your opinion on the club chiefs but it is amazing how much better a job they seem to be doing when the wins start flowing.

Is it a simpler game plan or are they finally taking to the structures better and putting in a greater effort. I'm not sure how you tease the two apart.

I actually think its a bit of both. I think you can play certain structures against teams that clearly won't work against other sides. I think last night our defensive set up worked really well and it was much more reflective of a flood at times. It was this that actually gave me real faith in Neeld. I felt like earlier in the year he was too rigid in his structures, and perhaps now he feels like he can have more finesse with it. The longer we compete in games the more the players can show a defensive understanding the more the coach will feel like he can tailor the structures. It's a cycle that hopefully we can build on.

Was tempted to uncork the single malt but GD minding duties this morning saved me from a big hangover.

Marvelous what a win will do for the spirit

Your day improved beyond your wildest Dreams

Not to mention mine

Bloody marvelous what 1 lousy win does for the spirit

You're right about everything but the 'lousy' part...

Enjoy it, OD.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
