List Summary Part 1

Thought I would go through our list and make a few notes on where each player is at and where they fit in going forward. Have left some players blank as I don't know enough about them. Will go through the list in a number of parts over the next few days.Feel free to comment on any player or provide feedback.

Bail- Has shown promise over the last 3 years. Capable of doing clever things but not consistent enough to have a big impact on games. KEEP

Bartram- One trick pony with poor disposal. Very limited as a player but makes up for it with effort and ability to apply pressure.Has a role to play on the small forwards. KEEP

Bate- Played some good games but unable to perform consistently and cement a spot. Has too many limitations for my liking (right foot, selfish, slow). Has the ability to kick long and seems to be progressing somewhat under neeld. KEEP

Bennell- Arguably the most frustrating. Has skill and lightning pace but lacks the appetite to find the footy. Has had many opportunities but hasn't delivered. Finished as an AFL player. GONE

Blease- Most obvious attribute is his pace. Not afraid to run & carry and has the ability to break lines. Despite injuries has shown enough to suggest he will be a good player and hopefully will become the outside runner we so greatly need ala kade Simpson. KEEP

Clark- Best player at the club by quite some margin not to mention one of the best recruits in recent afl history. Has a hunger for the contest and has finally given us a key marking target up forward with great finishing skills. Rated him enormously at Brisbane and has only enhanced his reputation since coming down to the MFC. Would be a genuine superstar in a top team. KEEP

Cook- Haven't seen or heard anything to suggest he will make it as an AFL player. Why we didn't pick Darling over him is beyond me. ?

Couch-

Davey- Has had a great career and almost pioneered the era of forwards working defensively but unfortunately will be remembered for his insipidness and lack of application over the last 2 years. Whether that detracts from the earlier part of his career I don't know but think his days are numbered. Been very disappointed with the lack of leadership from a senior player. DELIST

Davis-

Dunn- Has one or two good attributes but unfortunately fear he is finished as an AFL player. Is a great long kick for goal and he does compete but just completely lacks class and the ability to take grabs and get his hands on the footy. Had really high hopes for him after a great patch in mid to late 2010 as a defensive forward but has not progressed at all over the last 2 years. DELIST

I'd give Bennell a little more time to prove himself. As for Bate I'm on the fence, he hasn't been able to cement his spot in the side since 2009 and is really an average player. He plays shown good signs, but just isn't quite a good enough mark, kick, or goal-kicking force. He hasn't quite been good enough as key forward, half forward or midfielder He's 25 now so I'd probably be getting games into a younger player

Davey's contract may have a year to run, but he CAN'T run anymore. His body is cactus. He and the club will come to an agreement to end it at 2012.

Swap Bennell and Bate around - Jamie has more upside than the big red prawn, unreliable as his disposal may be - and it's hard to disagree with any of the above.

I'd probably delist Bail too, actually. His skill level is atrocious.

I think Rivers is an interesting one. He never became that All Australian centre half back we were hoping for in his early playing days and despite being maligned for being slow and not capable of racking up a big possession count has proven that he can perform fairly consistently as a pure old school defender. Considering the amount of quality ball that's been assaulting out backline recently he's stood tall in most peoples opinions. On the flip side if Tom Mcdonald keeps improving Rivers may outlive his use and end up taking the position of someone who can actually use the ball which is what our backline is screaming for. He's out of contract at the end of the year and if he could be traded to a team that's in finals contention (though lacking a key tall) ie Hawthorn for a skilful midfielder I think it would a win win deal for all parties.

Could delisting rookie-listing Cook be a viable option? Hasn't shown anything special but may need to be afforded more time

Woa there tiger. A little early to be pulling the plug on him just yet. He's a skinny young key position who's been injured. Besides kicking 5 goals in a half for the VFL ressies there hasn't been much to write home about him but he's hardly been able to string more than a few games together through no real fault of his own. I think you'd shatter his confidence if you rookie listed him in his 3rd year. That or it'd be the making of him... ?

So that's 15 players that need to be traded/delisted whatever.......

That will take either 3 years of normal evolution or 2 years of savaging the list. I prefer the latter.

Wow our list is bad.

I don't disagree with a lot of that.

I'd jettison Lawrence.

I'd keep Bail for depth - at least he has pace, which we sorely lack, but I'm not that fussed either way.

I like Strauss. I saw him play a couple of good games at Casey earlier in the year and reckon we need to support him in his recovery. Plus, I reckon he can become a player. I hope the club groom both he and Tapscott for defence.

Gotta keep Bail, he showed heart on weekend and seemed to genuinely want in.

i'd keep Jetta too for the same reason.

Everytime he gets a game you can see he tries his heart out. Plus he doesnt shirk a contest

Sheesh that's a pretty harsh assessment. We NEEED to keep Jamar past this season because our other rucks are not physically ready to handle the duties. Strauss should also be given more time. We have dismal disposal coming out of the back line (one of the reason we've need Watts back there lately) and Strauss was recruited as an elite user of the ball by foot. Just before he broke his leg he was really starting to show something at the AFL level to. Jetta should be given more time too because has shown more with his tackling intensity and ball winning than bennell has, and if not for injuries he could be a consistent performer for us by now.

I would also say we KEEP Molony, Sylvia, Petterd and Green. Green has showed some good signs the last two games and we need his ball use in the forward 50. I think he still has a year or two left. Let's not make the same mistake we made when we let Junior McDonald go. Finally I also think we need to keep one of Dunn or Bate. I would suggest Dunn because he actually looked dangerous at times on Sunday. His got reasonable body positioning and strength in a marking contest, and we also need a half forward that kick that long goal, which he is very good at. I think if Dunn could just play a little smarter at times he would be a much better player. That out of the air kick for goal he took at the back of the pack last week was a stupid decision when he could have given off a handball to Bennell for an open goal, or at least collected it in his hands first before putting it through with a drop punt.

It will be "Shop till ya Drop" at this years trade fair.

Davey I think has another year to run on his contract. I may be wrong but I think he's signed the end of 2013.

We historically don't pay out contracts so I don't think he will be delisted.

We can't afford to keep any player who does the Two Step or the Tango, out on the footy field... Poor leader. Gone.

Younger players dancing, have a little time to get their rhythms right.

Thats 5 this year to delist, or trade/swap.

And a possible further 5 this or next.

My criteria is to remove the soft, rotten & NQR wood this Year. Some honest types not quite up to it could be 1 Yr options, as we transition the list.

# Jamar is a quality player who is surplus, with Gawn, Clarke, Martin, Spencer to come through with Fitzpatrick pushing up.

I'm starting to question Jamar's worth to the side.

Gets tons of hitouts but this is totally offset by our inept midfield.

He got 5 possessions and 0 marks on the weekend- yes 0 marks for a 200cm footballer!

He's averaged about 8 possessions for the season

He can't shoot for goal to save himself

I'm starting to think losing Jamar to free agency won't be the end of the world.

I say we take the compensation, sign a Griffin or Hille for 1-2 years while we wait for Gawn to develop. Or we simply go with a Spencer/Martin/Fitzpatrick combo with relief from Clark.

Jamar is a dilemma.

On the one hand, he gives nothing around the ground. Never has, never will. He's basically a tap ruckman and that's it. Once the ball's in motion, we're one short.

On the other hand, with the midfield of any other side, he could be a matchwinner at stoppages.

Gawn is a talent with speed, & he'll need games to develop himself. And we need him to speed up his development.

Spencer is tough & robust & is a good backup to Gawn. He also needs gametime to develop.

Fitzpatrick I can see getting as much game time @ Casey's ruck, this & next year as possible.

# If the Russian stays, it creates a bottleneck for the next 3 Yrs.

Also we have a very good mobile 2nd ruck, currently playing & learning the Power Forward role atmo. keeping the spot in the goal square warm for whomever may grab it.

Would you swap Jamar for Boak +/- ???

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
