Collingwood would never let Cloke go.

Otherwise it'd be committing to at least a semi-rebuild, as Dawes is not fit to be a sole focal point up forward.

But can they afford the inflated price tag?

A valve must blow somewhere...

Collingwood are going to hit strife with the cap for sure if they keep going - free agency is going to hit them at some level, there's just going to be too much cash around.

Can somebody tell me if Davey still has a year to run on that big contract he signed a few years back? He would be one of our highest players believe It or not..

He's got a year to run, but like most of our contracts, his large contract was front-loaded, which means he won't be on that much next year.

This is a forum and as I stated quite clearly I was not intending to belittle Clark's performance, I see no need to support my comments with any solid evidence.

Thanks for pointing out that this was a forum - I hadn't noticed after 7 years of running it.

One great thing about forums is that you're able to air your opinions, as you've kindly pointed out to me. The other great thing is that others are able to challenge your views, discuss the data and hopefully both parties can learn something. The alternative is to get narky and defensive, and we can both take sarcastic shots at each other and we'll both just walk away grumpy and none the wiser.

ahhh its all a game...within games.

How much fun it is to set cats among pidgeons, to turn hunters into hunted and upset applecarts :)

We knwo ourselves how unsettling talk/rumour/inuendo etc can be to a club. So lets turn the torch on someone for a change.

I have no doubt Melbourne is seriously interested in Cloke. I imagine well be known to have been seriously intererted in a dozen players before the trade week's come to an end. And we will have picked up and traded a few for sure. We HAVE to. But theres also much value in niggling others. We ( the MFC ) needs to poke a few nests and see what might shake loose.

In some ways announcing our intentions may serve as a catalyst for other possiblilities. Again...its all a game...A game Ill enjoy. After all the real one isnt much chop at present ;)

Aint that the truth!

I'm glad to see some aggression. I would rather come out of this with Dal Santo, Sewell, and Black but at least we are making agents aware that we have the cap room to back up our talk.

This is how I see it.. We have a "Open for Business" light on.

I also see it as putting a few lazy bums on notice that we're serious about moving forward and Players either have the choice of participating and contributing to this or becoming collateral damage inthe progress.

All good to me.

Nasher... I really don't know why you are getting seemingly upset with that comment... I was NOT having a go at you or anyone else and there was NO sarcasm involved at all. I was merely pointing out that my comment was an opinion based on my observations (so obviously there's a good chance it's flawed) and that as I was expressing it on a public forum I felt no need for conclusive proof.

Apologies if you thought I was taking a shot at you.

Didnt Mcnamee offer one J Brown a Million if i remember correctly not so long ago...and promptly lost his job via Jimma & the board.

Cloke isnt worth a Mill..hes fairly good in a very good side with daisy cutter delivery most of the time but hes not worth a Million.

No Melbourne..dont do it.

Go for premium midfielders...who want the ball week in week out.

Go get all four Selwoods instead! Now That would be a coup.

I doubt we will get Cloke, although a twin tower with Clark i like. But we have already raised The Filth firs offer by 25%

that is good already.

Have a good day Mc Eddie.

But hasn't Freemantle made the best offer (a deal of around $4m or $5m over 4 or 5 years) to date? I wouldn't have thought relocation would be such a big deal when you are on that sort of money.

You could well be rigt. That just makes Edwards job even harder. Turn them screws.

Patchy at best. Honest servant. Average player. I would prefer if MFC looked elsewhere.

Too true.

Wardy could find the footy and cover yardage quickly. He also wasnt a bad kick if he had time.

What he couldnt do was run fast and compose a decent quick as well. Out of bounds on the full a fair bit IIRC.

Chris YarrAn (and Mark Murphy for that matter) are so good because they can spot someone up while going flat tack.

Hard low passes lace out while at full speed is what we want with one Sam Blease.

The only way Cloke would go to Freo would be a Scully like package deal.

Dad gets to go too.

Having said that , I don't want him.

Not for a Million a season ....That's crazy money for someone who's a dodgy kick.

Now if we were talking an elite Mid ... Maybe.

I can't imagine Cloke in the Red and Blue, but, I am pleased to see aggressive play by the administration to drive his price up. Will this squeeze out a Wellingham?..

It's obvious we need a good mix of quality mids, actually aside from a genuine Full Back, we need everything. As it stands, it will be quality mids that move this club forward, assuming the right development.

People allege Mitch Clark is overpaid, if this is true, then our entire list is overpaid. Clark has shown everyone at the club how to attack and contest both ways and he has been here for 5 minutes. He has exceeded my expectations thus far, with very limited opportunity due to lack of Inside 50's. I can’t see the Demons throwing big dollars at another KPF, this in turn may limit our exposure to quality mids whom should provide more frequent opportunity to our forwards.

We probably need to add one or two good quality mids, but they need to have some genuine pace and grunt about them... Jones has now developed pretty reliable and accurate delivery by foot and has deceptive acceleration (just not sustained), but he alone cannot provide the run needed - by the way, pun intended? :-)

If we are serious about getting a free agent we should be looking at St Kilda. Their window has slammed shut and they have cap problems.

Leigh Montagna or Brendan Goddard would look fantastic in red and blue. I don't think Nicky Dal is available this year but he'd be another worth looking at. I'd even consider doing a GWS if they delist Hayes but that is unlikely.

It would be easier to pry someone out of a club that isn't in the mix for a flag IMO.

Would the potential repercussion of that decision be being felt recently by the Lions, They could afford Black, Power and Brown at the time but i think they back loaded there contracts and then had to get rid of Rischetelli ect, or was that just the Fevola decision?

Point being if you dont manage the list perfectly signing Cloke, Pendles and Swan et al now mayy hurt there window in 2 years time with Sidey, Beams, Reid, Shaw Fasolo, Wellingham ect

This whole thing could just be a ploy to scare Watts into becoming aggresive.

Too funny...ha

Im quite happy for another club to pay a million for Cloke. Chews up their cap. Important sure the club knows wholly theyll target and be contentt to grab all the whiles playing their own game of cat and mouse . Cloke might be handy....but 1m ?.Personally important also for grabbing a quality ball mover to team Viney .

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
