When we play Hawthorn at the G as an away game I sit in the Ponsford stand behind the goals, usually surrounded by a hoard of smug, self satisfied, opposition supporters and it really shits me listening to their comments about Melbourne, but that's football you just have to ignore it and yell a bit louder when you get a goal or when one of theirs misses.

I do take exception however, when they venture in to our area and have the nerve to abuse our members like they did on Friday night. I went to the presidents function and there didn't seem to be many of them there but during the game they sat where they shouldn't and that's what caused the problem.

BTW Danners was at the function and got a great round of applause he's a good bloke.

You didn't have to be Nostrodamus to foretell it was going to be a tough night at the office. The Hawks members compensation game and reserved seating in the Southern stand wing forced me to level 4 PRE - very good view from there - bloody freezing though.

See, I always have more respect for supporters that turn up when they know it's going to be rough. Richmond supporters for example. Turn up no matter what, and that does earn you respect.

Didn't see any of that Friday night though. Maybe I'm just naive.

If this thread only encourages one member to upgrade to a reserved seat with the club from now on then it has done its job.

Only if it makes a difference, I have a reserved seat and as posted due to the lack of care from the MCC staff and this is every week not just Friday we had Hawthorn supporters, we have every week people sitting in the wrong seats, they move to other seats that aren't theres to be moved on again.

Most of the opposition supporters are from the President's lunch/function, they need a ticket to get in the area but once in, there is no supervision of where people sit. I've been asked once in about 5 years to show my membership card but we continually see opposition supporters sit where they like. It is the responsibility of the member that invites them to ensure they sit in the designated area and a ticket is issued for each guest to sit in front of the function room.

Members have been warned that they are not allowed to have non members sitting in these areas but seem to not care. We told an opposition supporter last year to move his guest to another area, which he did, but he wasn't happy about it which astounded me he knew the rules but ignored them.

I have a reserved seat only to arrive and find a Hawthorn supporter sitting in it in the Tridents area. If only it were that simple.

Club just replied, not the only one apparently who has complained to the club regarding crowd behaviour.

They've forwarded it to the MCG, but they also said that the anti-social number is more than just 'getting security to show' - CCTV covers the area immediately.

It doesn't matter who the oppo is....it's night footy, especially FRIDAY night footy...the AFL's marquee night...that brings out the worst supporters enmasse. They leave work, have a few drinks along the way, & keep drinking at the footy. Because they've arrived form work, the kids aren't in tow, the partner's at home, it's a drink fest. I loathe Friday night footy. On Saturday night it's not quite so bad.

Where I sit it's part of the routine to see the ugly supporter...either our own or the oppo. The answer is always to call in Security. The Club are only dealing with heresay after the event whilst Security can act immediately.

So why do we keep putting ourselves in a position to cop abuse? Supporters who go every week, winning or losing, we're just sick, sick people!!!

Agree with the Friday night stigma. Had a few Hawks blokes on the turps in front of us. They commenced when Leigh Brown was near fence during the warm up, Ponsford Stand. Clearly they had a gut full of amber beverage and out came the foul language. Inappropriate and disgusting. Having two of my kids with me made it very uncomfortable and we exchanged words, me making a point of their language and kids being present.

Thankfully, it registered with them after some grilling from hawk supporters nearby as well to watch their tongue, and they piped down for the remainder.

Hawthorn - enough said. We ended up moving at half time, and sadly the second seat had some hawks supporters kicking the sh#t out of the seats. I'd rather have gone back to the original seat and put up with the bogan supporters - the kid was called Makita. No joke, hah.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
