I understand the frustration and recognise the right of posters to criticise but oject to players being called 'turds'.....Every player, no matter for who he plays....try....sometimes they don't play well....sometimes they do.....

I didn't call him a turd, I made an analogy regarding the poor options we have at the moment. You might not think there's a difference, but there is. FWIW I'd delete posts if anyone did directly refer to a player in that away.

Gotya.......I tend to get a little over protective of our players no matter how good or bad....

I'm not sure how many here saw the team live chat yesterday but Paul Slattery, our forward line development coach, fielded questions and a number of people asked about petterd.

Here were some of his responses:

Hi Marty, that has been the case this year. Ricky has had some really good form at VFL level, but unfortunately that hasn't translated in solid form in the AFL at the moment. He's certainly got plenty to offer at AFL and I'm sure he'll make the most of his next opportunity. Paul.

Hi Guest, Ricky is having a bit of a break due to injury. Once he has recovered, he will be in a position to impact at a much better level in the AFL. Paul.

Hi Troy, we see Ricky, regardless of where he plays, as a player who needs to ensure that his form and fitness will give him every chance to compete at AFL level. Paul.

So basically, it's not just Ricky's form that's the issue, he's obviously battling another niggling injury that is restricting him physically. This has been the case in previous years where his body has let him down. Hopefully he can get his body right so that he can provide that consistent spark across half-forward that we love seeing when he is in full-flight.

  • 4 weeks later...

People including myself were excitied by Garland last week, but this week he was far less effective.

Imo He played so much like the Ricky Petterd of 09/10 against the Dons, WE NEED RICKY BOBBY BACK. He need him fit, and confident because he would be the perfect foil under Clark imo,

We have Howe, Petterd, Dunn and Bate and can barely find a medium forward between them wtf? in Howes defence he is playing moreon a wing, and kicked 2 goals today is welcome back, i have liked his season, but also liked him playing 3rd tall last year.... thoughts?

IN: Petterd

OUT: Green

Hate to admit it but I think Greeny's time is nearly up

Was a time when he began, he would have slotted those goals, Held the marks, and shrugged off the players in his back.

I still reckon his time in midfield and defence rotations negated his natural "Striker" disposition and he has bome more hesitant.

Of course it could also just be a natural progression of age..

Wow. You didn't notice the 10 losses? Or Cale, Or JB?

You really think they have been the biggest disappointments of the season?

Cale who has shown more this year than in the last 2?

And Bennell who has done little at AFL level like previous years, but at least shown some very solid form in the VFL?

Some people just like to kick the same targets every time without putting any thought into it...

Imagine Tippet and Robinson sitting in our forward line today.

What a real shame

Christ.

Literally EVERY other club overlooked Tippett...

Just epic how dumb football supporters get when the word "draft" is involved.

Nah. They've been pretty bad. Bennell's VFL form means little... He's always been handy there and has never translated. Chris Johnson a perfect example.

And Cale wouldn't get a game with any other side in the league, except maybe GWS and GC, and even then he'd only be filler until their talent comes on. His year this year hasn't been his best. He's not impacted any games in a big way, is suffering from the same problems as the rest of the side, and what's worse his kicking has gone backwards.

Watts is a year younger, is skinnier and has played a coupe of dozen less games, and has gone way past him in pretty much the same role, even though he's only played the last few weeks in it.

Your Morton love is commendable, and certainly loyal. It is also unfounded, and based mainly around crystal-ball gazing, and very little exposed form. This is his fifth year in the system. Just because he's shown more this year than in the last two means nothing. He should be impacting games by now. He's been given an opportunity to be a KP player, and he's too skinny, he was given an opportunity to be a soft outside player, and he hasn't got the disposal, he's been given a harder-edged role under Neeld, and he's still not in our best players. Not even in our "good enough" players, despite some good passages here and there. Excuses don't cut it anymore. Enough's enough.

Would love to see Petterd in against GWS.

Give him the defensive forward role on Cornes and put Magner in the middle of the effing ground !!

Do you want fries with your Large McLogic meal. You are spot on. I miss Ricky P.

They haven't been great, but did they really disappoint, or just produce as most expected?

I don't have any love for Morton, but I object to the rampant stupidity of overly criticising him when it is not deserved.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
