Disgraceful but not unexpected for Golden Boy or this incompetent and inconsistent MRP. He's the new Chris Judd. hits players with impunity.

Selwood escapes sanction

http://www.afl.com.a...20/default.aspx

"The Match Review Panel deemed the impact of the fourth quarter incident was not forceful enough to warrant a charge, after receiving a medical report from the Brisbane Lions."

Contact between the Geelong Cats' Joel Selwood and the Brisbane Lions' Andrew Raines from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The two players are ahead of the ball and running upfield. Selwood makes high contact to Raines with his left hand. After receiving a medical report from the Brisbane Lions Football Club, it was the view of the panel the force used was below that required to constitute a report. No further action was taken.

Montagna got two for the magner thing. But play on from umpires.

Why did Goddard get off for his mckenzie treatment? Apparently got him in the guts?

Goddard's incident wasn't even assessed

Leigh Montagna, St Kilda, has been charged with a Level Three striking offence against James Magner, Melbourne, during the first quarter of the Round Five match between St Kilda and Melbourne, played at the MCG on Saturday April 28, 2012. In summary, due to his previous poor record, his two-match sanction must remain at two matches, even with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing bad record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 247.50 points. He also has 64.06 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 311.56 points and a three-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 233.67 points and a two-match sanction.

The Selwood one is inexcusable from the MRP, he throws the first hit and from all angles seems to be as forceful as Raines but because he went down and Raines copped it sweet he gets off. I think he's a brilliant player and has great courage in many ways but it Raines must hit the sweet spot for Selwood to go down like that.

I will say this: Selwood is not responsible for the MRP findings, and they should've recognised Selwood as the instigator and the fact that hit appeared to be as forceful as Raines. You are a dead set joke MRP.

Club a hates club b.

player from club b does something to a player from club a.

Club a report a lot of medical damage.

Player from club b gets a larger penalty.

Anyone else see the hole here?

All I see is massive inept joke of a review system with EXTREME bias towards AFL marketability.

So Selwood will be out there ducking his head into frees once again next weekend..........and remain eligible for the Brownlow.

Mr Dimitriou - you frequently talk of "integrity".......but obviously that does not extend to the MRP....or the "draw", nor ground deals, nor your project clubs. So just where is this mystery "integrity" Andrew?

Add AFL employees leaking confidential information to media as well

To me it looks like both hits were with an open hand. If that's the case then Selwood needs some serious medical tests done. For him to drop like he was being tackled er, I mean, like he was smashed in the head after being [censored] slapped then there must be some ongoing issue with his previous concussions.

I think the MRP is generally better than the previous system - having a systematic way of deciding the penalty is by far preferable. The discount offer removes the farcical tribunal hearings where a player with a black eye says nothing happened. But in this case the MRP have got it seriously, badly wrong by not enforcing their own formula.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
