MCG to Install Prayer Rooms !

What's wrong with this?

It's standard practice in most office buildings in the city.

What's the issue?

Btw, thread title is incorrect - the MCG will install the rooms - nothing to do with MFC whatsoever.

Interestingly, I was told just recently that they need to have little wash basins in there because part of the prayer process involves washing their feet, hands and forehead before prayer.

I didn't know that.

I don't see an issue with this at all. Not sure what Jeffrey is banging on about. It has nothing to do with political correctness at all. The AFL are being accommodating to the needs of a portion of their fans. Good on them!

It's because old Jeffrey is a xenophobe.

Have no problem with this whatsoever.

But i don't agree with Houli that it will increase Muslim attendances. Just like having a church or a synagogue, neither of those would increase attendances for games (one would have thought).

I wouldn't know much about Muslim religious beliefs that they abide by, but i would respect the need for such. However, if they must pray 5 times a day, so be it. I recognise they need to accommodate all. Personally, if it was within the rules I'd OD on the prayer and get it all done before heading off to the footy.

I couldn't stand being in the prayer room and hearing a roar. Interruptions galore if weren't sound proof. I'd be busting down the door to see who scored. That's my religion...footy.

Has to do with being clean before presenting oneself to the almighty (should you believe).

load of crap...of the muslims I chat with, the religion states they should pray 5 times a day if they can...so if they miss one due to social or work commitments is not a mortal sign, just the reality of living on Earth.

I'm looking forward to the opening of a Catholic/Anglican etc chapel with a full Sunday games at all venues. I'm sure if i could attend a service in the ground, enjoy the morning tea afterwards and take my seat we'll increase the number of people practising their other religion and get them to the footy...

Given the length of an AFL game, what do Pakistani's do at cricket matches? In this case old jeff is right.

But where does it end? By rights then an adherent to any religion should now be provided with a prayer room.

Political correctness gone mad.

It's not PC gone mad - it's a commonly accepted necessity for Muslims.

Their religion requires that they pray a certain number of times per day, with certain conditions attached.

If you can provide me with a valid claim for any other religion to have similar requirements, then I'd condone that being provided for too.

Meanwhile the Muslims won't get a look in as these rooms will be filled with dees supporters no doubt..

The Muslims will all be lining up at Punt Rd Oval in the Tigers new facility!

I said MCG because they AFLmake it clear all clubs and venues must follow suite

What worries me most is that in the statement that the AFL has ruled that prayer rooms MUST be installed at all venues.

A friend of mine summed it up beautifully for me

"He said "Has the AFL investigated what percentage of the attendances are Muslims?"

Have they checked what percentage of memberships are Muslims?

To make decisions to add, install, modify or improve venues there has to be a need.

Unless there is a significant need for these prayer rooms then the whole idea is worse than silly.

It is just another case of political correctness gone mad and another example of pandering to a minority group.

The AFL is not excempt from this madness anymore than some others.

maybe after Misfit's mis-firings the AFL is looking at clawing back some lost "ism" brownie points

wonder if they are thinking of not playing games on the Jewish Sabbath? :o

The xenophobia here is palpable.

Why should it concern you in the slightest?

How exactly will it impact on you in any way?

Providing prayer rooms these days is a commonly-accepted necessity as much as universal access (wheelchair access in layman's terms).

Disabled access was a bad choice Hose

Many would disagree that it is seen as a "necessity" based on practice

Not necessarily disagreeing with your general point but "necessities" are generally not universal and are often just "niceties".

We could have one as well for the Scientologists, Orange People, Hindus, Jews, Mormons, Family of God, Brethren, Pentecost etc. etc. why not just build a temple for all religions in the parklands next to the G with a tunnel from the ground directly in to it.

The Brethren aren't allowed to eat with non Brethren so perhaps we could incorporate a small Cafe in their part.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
