Mark Stevens raises tanking

How exactly did we tank genius? We were ahead when the siren went. Or are you saying we stuffed that up as well ha ha.

Of course we did.

To make it any more blatant would have incurred the wrath of the AFL.

In the end, Richmond were too bad, and we showed too much heart, finishing in front at the final siren.

Yes, we nearly did.

It was the most unconvincing display of tanking I can recall in any draft-driven sport.

The Footy World © thinks we egregiously tanked - no we didn't - not as bad as Brett 'I am taking off Fevola while infront against Coll, not tag Johnstone at all, and for some reason I will retire Lappin in Rd 21' Ratten.

But for one crazy game, in which Warnock played forward, we didn't want to win - the players nearly screwed that up...

I think you might need a pinned thread for all your footy terms, rpfc.

Although, the thought of "flag core" right about now makes me feel queasy.

I am dead against playing in a way that will not win us finals in the future. If learning to play the Mark Neeld way causes us to not win a game all year, then I'll support it as long as the experience the players gain will be relevant in the future. Attempting to lose games (and thus not giving our players optimal practice in whatever game style the coach believes will win us a Premiership) would be a terrible mistake, and is likely to cause more harm than good.

Who cares what outsiders to the MFC think. We were fleeced by the AFL when they took our bird in the hand (Scully) and offered us two birds in the bush (draft) as compo. If we maximise the value of that "deal" then all the smarter us...

Could we please change the terminology to a more acceptable sub-text?

'List Management' :)

In the end this is whats its al labout and really, why shouldnt any club be able to maximise the exposure of whomever it chooses to the rigours of AFL footy in any fashio it sees fit.

This is about winning premierships...not necessarily individual games .

No one really cared til the bookies started screaming !!

I agree with you here. Look at North last sunday. They are learning the hard way.

We have already been burnt once with "list management" so we must be very careful. I know the draft is the modern way, but this club does not have the credits that many other clubs do.

If we continue the form of the first three games there would not be one person who could suggest we were tanking.

Nope, we just suck......

Hang tight Mark Neeld.

What the Media have suggested in the past is that an instruction would come from the coach to the players that club needs to lose the game today ?

Anyone who has played a team sport like football that has so many players on the ground knows how stupid that sounds

Ludicrous suggestion

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
