BJ Goddard? option?

I am not sure that we could pay him substantially more than StKilda. My guess is that if he is leaving for money he will go north otherwise he will stay at the Saints

Just a Thought.

We all know that GWS are keen, we lack a star midfielder ( nothing against trengove), we still have money to spend, only 26 and would add a little bit of flavour into a one paced midfield.

Thoughts?

Could you give me a few concrete facts about the MFC that would get Brendon to choose us over other clubs?

I rate him as a player, but I don't think he's the type of player we need.

I don't think his presence would have as much impact to make it worth what we'd have to pay.

I'm of the opinion that our side desperately needs someone to do what Judd did for Carlton in 2008 - someone with skill and leadership in equal measure. Goddard definitely fits the bill, but at nearly 27, he may only give us 3 good seasons.

It would definitely be worth considering, but the price may just be too high - especially if the Saints demand both compensation picks in return.

Still, it would be a nice feeling going into 2013 armed with Goddard and Viney.

Money or chase a premiership, GWS or Carlton. Otherwise he will stay a Saint.

This is almost certainly how it will pan out. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more brown paper bags exchanging hands......

I thought he may have been an option late last year, we went with Clark. Agree with Jose. Building our own leaders and list maybe the best option for now (or the only option). But always keep an eye out for a star or entice.

He is the type of player you would love, but he is 27 next month, so 3 years service may be all he can offer. Which isnt a problem but the price would need to be right. It would need to be a pick around 10 and something....which wont satisfy the Saints, only because at this stage our first pick is viney and the next pick will be about 5-6 which i think will get us a great 10 year player which is 3X as much value.

This then opens up the question, how much is a leader worth to the MFC, and will this go a long way to changing the culture at our club? then the value changes.

the best supporters???

Now there is an interesting concept

- wonder if players prefer to play in full stadiums or more than half empty ones?

- wonder if they prefer to hear cheering instead of booing?

- wonder if they prefer a positive over a negative environment?

- wonder if what supporters put in the public domain ever has an influence?

- wonder if the "culture" of a club ever comes into their decision?

Just a thought. Mate only takes someone to share a few thoughts around here and we would have - ZERO chance.

have you seen/heard Aints supporters?

Yip I heard them - they were scathing on BG in his first 4 years but now they are "[censored]" in their underwear NOW. Football moves in mysterious ways.

So the truth hurts does it big boy. I will "buy" a sense of humour no problems - but only when a few around here wake up to themselves. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

PS what sense of humour do you want the Polis type or the Billy Connolly type?

I'd pass on BJ, despite him being a star.

We need to find and develop our own stars over the next couple of years and only look to top up with experienced talent when we are in the top 4 and need a new element to win a flag.

He seems older than 26 doesn't he, if he was 24 he'd be perfect for us.

Would be a great get but he will either stay at St Kilda or go to GWS.

Saints would want both our compo picks though.

Is he not a restricted free agent? All you need to do is entice him to want to come to Melbourne and then as long as whatever we offer StKilda cannot match then he comes to us. Not saying it is the right move but we do not need to worry about involving our compo picks nor is GWS his only option if he wants to move.

PS and would "quality" be an opinion or a subjective view? Sorry English was never my strength.

Answer: definitely objective

Thanks - so what one person sees as "quality" another may see as "trash"? Would that be right.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
