Round 1 - who's looking better - Tigers or Dees?

Featured Replies

Names like Cotchin and Martin are starting to make me wonder...

Quite clearly Richmond.

Richmond are in front of us IMO.

But let's not limit it to Richmond alone. Who has the better list out of the clubs that started their rebuild at about the same time, namely:

1. Richmond;

2. North Melbourne;

3. Essendon;

4. Melbourne; and

5. (arguably) West Coast.

The question being, if you could trade our entire list for one of these other clubs, would you do it? And, if so, for which club's list?

It not only disappoints me that we have backed some of the players currently on our list - it really also annoys me the players we actually overlooked to pick them. For instance, I hate watching the way Darling is dominating so early into his career. Shuey and Zaharakis too, particularly given the rumour doing the rounds that Blease wants to join his mate at GWS.

West Coast are a potential top four side....You have us above them, really ?

He wasn't placing them in order.

He wasn't placing them in order.

Oh, my mistake.

Of course they're above us. I said 'arguably', because perhaps West Coast didn't embark on a 'rebuild' like the other clubs I listed above them (given they actually won the flag in 2006).

Get him on the first plane to Sydney for the highest pick we can get.

Another ordinary selection for mine RB.

Yes, just a misunderstanding.

I was laughing Thursday night watching the Tigers, little did i know i would be in tears Saturday afternoon.

Yeah. I was giving it to Richmond mate on Friday. I've had to go into hiding since yesterday's disaster.

Thankfully I kept my Richmond comments to myself, so used to it backfiring when the Dees serve up worse...

Port friggin Adelaide are 4 goals up against the Saints.

Somebody please kill me.

Miight just be new coach curse??

Names like Cotchin and Martin are starting to make me wonder...

I think round 3 should answer your question

port adelaide have a class midfield - hartlett, boak, brett ebert, cassisi, mccartney, plus gray (who didn't play) - and an array of tall timber up front - schulz, butcher, westhoff, d stewart - that will cause a lot of sides trouble in 2012.

far better than our options. it's arguable that their backline is comparable to ours, with only frawley a fair bit ahead of his direct line opponent (carlile). rivers and chaplin are about equal, i'd take surjan over bartram in a heartbeat, pearce and grimes is a close call, probably just in favour of pearce as he's a proven entity, and p stewart is miles ahead of joel macdonald.

i had port several positions ahead of us - 12th compared to 14th - before round 1, and after round 1 it could conceivably be far greater.

and tigers are clearly further advanced in their rebuild than us. as are the kangas. and essendon. and west coast (who scored someone who could be the best key forward in the competition in a trade for one of the best mids in the comp, and thus 'won' the trade in my opinion).

Richmond have the worst defense I've ever seen.

We have the worst midfield I've ever seen.

Let's merge. Lose half our teeth but end the misery.

Lindsay Gaze can be the coach.

Seriously, we're about even. Carlton looked horrible for 2 and a half quarters then blew Richmond away when they felt like it. Richmond have had and should be used to Hardwick by now.

We are a rabble that put in a heartless effort.

[censored] sandwich or vomit soup? Who cares.

things aren't too bad

we are equal on points with Geelong, Collingwood, St.Kilda and Western Bulldogs

wasn't that the top 4 recently?

(please turn on your sarcasm meters)

Tigers. Midfield is more important than defence and they are all over us there.

They also have heart, passion & more intensity than us. There is no way we would have got within cooee of Carlton.

Well put Deestroy all .They aint that good and neither are we .There are holes everywhere in both teams .Why the Richmond envy here?

If we combined bothe teams the resultant team would still be deficient

Garbage both

Midfield is missing totally for us and the Tiges (who I am not a fan of) have class there and that is something they can develop further. We are way behind in that development.

At this point nothing else matters. Without a midfield we are cooked.

I'm not jumping ship yet, I'll stick with our list for the time being. Richmond don't have a key defender. Massive holes in their back line.

We're doing badly, it's frustrating, but I reckon we'll turn the corner at some stage this year.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

    Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
