I don't think Neeld said he was happy with 4 players but that there were 4 who were around average. I think that says it all. I don't think we had one standout player but Magner in his first game was the best of the bunch.

Clarke?? Howe?? I can think of no one in the forward line that did anything of note the entire game bar one mark. Although this had more to do with delivery than anything else - its like we still have the 'bomb it to Neita' gameplan...

Magner was the clear bestie and I can tell you why - he hasnt been around the club for long... A VFL player that has been overlooked for years walks in and shows up the entire team for heart and spirit. What a joke.

My question is - why did Bater only come in the last quarter? Why wasnt Dunn and Pettard (injury?) in the team?

Clark was very average today and so were 20 of his mates

17 disposals at 47% efficiency, I think a lot of people on here are overstating Trengove's game.

Deez Nutz - more like that average game stood out compared to the crap served up by most.

Liked the tackling and I'll give him credit for that.

But 17 disposals from a midfielder at AFL level is definitely not acceptable and that low posession count is worth even less if they are at 47% efficiency. He is listed as having 3 clangers and I'm pretty sure all of them happened in the first half when the game was still in contention (not to mention the attempted overhead mark that looked more like a volley-ball pass).

And as for most marks? 2 of the 6 were contested, hardly anything to hang your hat on.

i said that nobody is saying he played well, but he lead us in 2 strong criteria, 6 marks even if 2 uncontested is about 6 times the average for the day. and 8 tackles is great on any day. a goal is nice.

But yes 17 touches isnt great, he needs to become a 27-30 touch player in reality.

I didnt think he was great but when he got continually named i looked at his stats and alot of them are solid

Yes it would have been, but Jamar was probably about even in his time in the ruck in that he negated the influence of the opposition, but he didn't do anything to contribute positively to winning clearances.

When Martin went in their it wasn't pretty. Leuny outsized him, Hudson outsmarted him especially at boundary throw ins.

Martin needs to learn to attack the footy as a forward. He's gone backwards from last year in that regard. I don't like his chances of making it as much as I did last year and I wouldn't be surprised if Sellar is in as a back up ruck soon. You'll know he'll at least understand his limits and play team football.

This is something that has been hurting us as a team for a few years now. Our midfield has a very low possession count. We don't seem to have any serious ball-winners who will rack up 30+ disposals week in week out. We have a few guys who are damaging when they have it, but so many need to add about 10 to their average before they can be called good players.

Who here thinks Neeld counted how many players he was happy with on his fingers before the press conference? I wouldn't take his words so literally - he was just making the point that most of our players played below expectation. I think Magner is the only one who played well enough for four quarters.

He seemed to be scribbling and writing quite a bit in the coaches box so I assume he did actually have specific amount of players in mind and probably told them so and pointed them out after the game.

He also didn't say 4 very good players, he said a pass mark. I think Watts got a pass mark but the expectations are still higher than what he served up yesteday.

I started this thread to get an idea of what differing views there are amongst the faithful

quite a variation in trying to find FOUR pass mark players but universal condemnation on the team as in fact we only had ONE

Your mention of Magner and Watts is totally irrelevant to what you are responding to, I made no mention of either in this topic and actually had both of them in my top 6 for DL votes. But good on you for trying to portray my post as something it wasn't.

5 players at the club had more touches than Trengove and all of which with considerably higher efficiency. Of the top 10 possession getters, Trengove had the worst disposal. That's fact.

Some might look at it differently through "co-captain coloured goggles" but it's reality. That's what happened yesterday.

Its a pity for your crusade that "most on here" have not been claiming Trengove had a good game but he did play better than about 18 others. No one has been pushing his barrow too hard. For a 20yo kid with less than 40 games under his belt as a first game captain in a midfield that was monstered his effort was credible. And what you want see looking at the stat sheets that he does have the class to be a good footballer. He showed it on Saturday and was for most part under close pressure the whole day. But he will struggle to show that class with the lame senior support around him.

You see that's part of the problem, we are not getting enough un contested ball. At least Trengove was giving us some spread and an option. Yeah it wasn't a great game all up but his efforts in the second quarter probably kept us in the game at least until half time.
