Addam Maric

Alot of people here seem to rate Lawrence, yet i am to hear of him ever having a good game with more then 2 goals at either the AFL level or in the VFL. He is a small forward so the classic Demonland excuse of 'he needs to develop' isn't sufficient for him either. Did he even get any NAB game time? Is there something I am not seeing with Lawrence that everyone else is?

At the moment i think only blease or davey could fill the gap though there isnt much depth there.

He just shows some nice tricks.

And last year shows some good signs of being prepared to chase & do the defensive things. He has VG athletic skills.

Jetta would be my choice if he wasn't injured all the time.

Jetta has never been a small forward, he is an inside midfielder, and if he makes it thatโ€™s where it will be. He is not fast and not a goal kicker.

Maric had his chance and showed nothing. Good luck to him at Richmond, but he deserved to be delisted from Melbourne.

Nev Jetta has had a bit of bad run with injury, it happens Jack Grimes is the same, Jamar used to find strange and unusual ways to injure himself early on, so did Sylvia....I think you will find that if Jetta stays it will be as a defender/midfielder

As for Maric I spoke to one of the coaches last year and congratulated him on getting Maric's light switched on....his reply was..."the problem is keeping the f****n thing lit"....hence the delisting. Good luck to him at Richmond

wow. That is damming if right. Will watch his progress closely this year.

Couldn't believe we got rid of him

Maric had another 18 possessions on the weekend but even still he hasn't changed one bit.

His stat sheet read 18 kicks 0 handballs.

At Melbourne he was a selfish footballer and at Richmond he still is. I watched he wasn't terrible but he was still selfish. They can keep him and I'll be happy to watch him do u-turn after u-turn in Round 3 while we [censored] them.

Can't think of too many of the top mf my head. Especially not recently.

Trav J - No

Maclean - No

Bruce - No

Cheeney - No

Yes you did - hence my bottom sentence saying "on a serious note" :)

While I only saw about half the Richmond v Carlton game last night, I thought Maric was just OK. Did a few nice things and then a couple of poor decisions. More relevantly, though, if Richmond is going to better than Melbourne this year...we'll be having a shocker. Richmond has a few terrific players (Cotchin, Martin, Deledio) but still a lot of gaps currently being filled by battlers (Miller, A. Maric, Edwards, Nahas, and most of the backline).

I rate Nahas, apart from that they are rubbish though.

To quote a Pies supporter off BigFooty, the barometer is Miller. If he's getting a game, they're still pants (as we were).

I must say I disagree on this point .I think he is pretty quick /elusive and he "hates" a goal which makes him a forward .

Did he kick 3 once for us or was I dreaming?

He seemed to be rushed in his decision making, often taking wrong options etc, thought he played very similarly to what he produced here at Melbourne. If that continues I'm sure he will frustrate Tiges supporters like he frustrated us last year, looks like he should be better than he is.

As for Richmond I couldn't agree more, their top end young talent is very good in Martin, Cotchin, Deledio and Riewoldt, but far too many of their 22 are not up to it, such as Edwards, Post, Miller etc.

Agree with most posters about Maric. If he is given time and space he has good decision making and good skills. But in the normal cut and thrust of a game of AFL standard footy that space is taken away from him and he looks less than ordinary. Is he the classic "wrong option" player who is defined by bad choices?

Looked genuinely scared to kick for goal last night. Had a few chances which were shirked. Right decision was made and frankly seeing Miller and Maric running around for the Tiggers has me believing we are a step ahead. Their list is the most uneven in the competition. Backline is horrendous.

Terrible waste of a good draft pick.

Correct analysis there P man. To think some on here thought they were doing better than us .Without a massive leap of faith I still put us at close 14/22 wins .Hard teams being Collingwood ,Cats ,WCE ,Hawks and Carlscum .Sydney ,Freo and even the Crows are tough away but we have to start retrieving the smoked ham from interstate this year .

If a player wants out. They want out.

Lets just make sure he is quiet against the MFC.

Tell that to Bate.

Hard to tell from TV coverage but it looked as though Maric was playing on Yarran who kicked a couple of goals from half back. It was the defensive part of his game and lack of second effort that really lacks in his game and why he is a good VFL player but doesn't step up. One glaring effort was when he lost his feet in a contest and sat on the ground exhausted whilst Yarran took off down the ground with ball in hand.

I thought Yarran was on Nahas, but with rotation he may of stood next to double d

As I say, hard to tell on the TV coverage and I would have thought they might have focussed on it given the drive Yarran was giving. He was with him at times but either way the Tiges defensive forward work was very average and didn't help their undermanned defense.

Garry Lyon said on MMM "there is always a good reason why you let a player go"

Followed by spud "Yeah him ducking his head and shirking the contest like that must be one"

Richmond have a lot of garbage players playing senior footy. There seems to be a huge gulf between their best and worst players - they remind me a lot of Carlton circa 2008.

True, but their midfield sh*ts all over ours.

I'd give my left knee to have Martin, Cotchin and Delidio running around in our midfield. Sure beats having to resort to the likes of Bate. No offence to Bate.

Tell that to Bate.

If Bate really wanted out he would have gone. The Fact he trained so hard in the pre season is a credit to him & the fact the coach has backed him to do a job. If Neeld had not had a place for Matty, he would have gone to Footscray by now.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
