you misread me

i can see you on a bike (very good for your fitness)

but i can't see you wearing lycra (at least in my mind)

clearer?

Yes but believe me it happens especially the shorts best option available.

Now where do I get the RED and blue ones?

I like it..................if they were sitting on the interchange bence wearing them to keep warm during a game, then I'd say we've lost the plot, but for special functions etc I reckon it's a great idea.

I like traditions, and things that remember the past........especially when it comes to footy clubs!

would these do?

blue red shorts

just buy some mfc emblems and get your wife to sew them on (misogynous comment)

Colours are fine DC but don't think there are MFC logos big enough to cover the "NOR"

misogynous comment accepted as nothing would happen without her skill in this area.

Than again a Pies supporter might be tempted to sow them on upside down.

I like the Idea...But once again these Blazers will only take on true meaning with On Field Victories.

The Baggy Green became even more revered after '89 Ashes.

But let us embrace our long History & keep the Future our ongoing goal to be the Best.

An MFC Blazer could be eagerly sought after very soon.

I too am with Old Dee.

Portrays the MFC as something stuck in the past,

Which in many ways we are .

Reminds me again that we were once great.

Before I was born .

I like it. Don't have to be stuck in the past to appreciate the tradition of the club.

i dont really care either way. Im sure players hold onto a few of their gurnseys for afetr they retire, now they have another pice of fabric that will gather dust?!

Cam should focus on getting the FOJ sponsor on board instead of bringing back old traditions for the sake of nostalgia

I think Cam can walk and chew gum at the same time...

Im a bit on fence here, i like like old traditional stuff but at the same time i think it gives a bit of the private school, snow going, rich boy look that we stereo typically get. what are peoples thoughts?

It's our history, we may as well embrace it, rather than hide it, we sure as hell can't change it.

This too would bring me more comfort .

Put all our energy into the next flag , not the last 1 .

im sure he can too.

Im just frustrated by all of these puff pieces on the clubs website, like Barrassi's birthday and now this blazer. I'd happily have no preseason activity on the site apart from match reports, injury updates & sponsorship info

About as good as the grand old flag raising we had last year. This stuff looks just looks plain silly from a club that has not won anything in generations. People don't respect contrived flags and blazers, no one sees this and thinks, 'wow, maybe I have to change my mind about how I think about those guys'. Do a bit of this stuff if we ever get anywhere onfield.

I got an email from the club today part of which follows.

As our entire playing and coaching list will be there, it is an important night for the club and we are seeking to get 46 Blazer Sponsors at $750 to assist us in staging the evening. Each Blazer sponsor will receive a unique signed photo of our young captains Jack Grimes & Jack Trengove being presented with their Blazer by Ron Barassi in recognition of your support. You will also be recognised throughout the night on our in room screens.

Another good idea as I have no doubt the entire 46 will be snapped up.

This is for the Commencement Dinner 14th March

Hate it. They are footy players not school boys. Are we still continuing with the flag raising thing this year? That was bad too.

I'm not happy there's no FOB sponsorship

Jolly well said old boy .Bout time we started to dress like little snots even if were not going to play like them anymore .Might give the opposition something more to hate .What what?

I would happily hazard a guess that CS wouldn't have spent too much time worrying about the blazers, and as RPFC alluded to, I'm sure he can multitask a little.

I absolutely love it, whilst agreeing that it needs to be something which is really kept for special occasions. I can see this being something which two Jacks and a few other boys will cherish at the end of their long and successful careers :) Not only that, it's a one off. All for celebrating our tradition, and couldn't give a brass rahzoo what any other supporter has to say about it.

I didn't know embracing a traditional blazer meant becoming a Dickens character...

contrived flags ? and i dont care what other fans think about this its our club stuff them we have a great history and i can see this in jack grimes house in 40 years smelling of beer from our 2014,15 and 16 flags great idea cam.

I like it we are the oldest football club in the world with a proud tradition, lets embrace it while we move forward and create new memorable moments for this great club. Not everyone has Brownlows to look back on and lets face it the jumper changes every year or two, when your old and retired you can show your grandkids your blazer you got for playing with the Dees, can't by them in the shop son

Think the baggy green is so treasured and revered as it is worn on the field during battle (think of steve waughs soaked in blood sweat, tears and all). The blazer is a good idea in theory but I think the playing jumper(s) is what the players really want and will treasure. I think a normal club suit for functions is just fine and unless were going to wear the blazers on field I don't see a lot of point in them

Surely we have moved on from the 50's and are a more moden club this this???

Yes, and while we're at it, let's also do away with the ceremonial aspect associated with the handing on of historically significant numbers such as 11, 31 etc; oh, and let's move to have the Norm Smith medal renamed to something more contemporary. And while we're at it, let's change the club song - it's too old and no longer relevant (actually, truth be known, I would be happy for us to replace the original with the David Bridie version :) )

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
