This is a discussion board not a court of law, so proof and opinion can be pretty much the same thing..

Proof: "Evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement."

Opinion: "A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge."

[source: Google]

So we have proof, which is based on evidence or logical deduction to establish truth, versus opinion, which could be a view based upon the position of the leaves that were arranged by the magical tea fairy.

It's fair to say that opinion and proof are not the same. You show a lot of the former and precious little of the latter.

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck its proof enough for me its a duck. I don't need the duck to tell me so or listen to someone else who disputes it may not be a duck because the duck hasn't told them. I trust my own instinct, perception, foresight and intuition when the subject comes to discussing ducks or liars.

I think Brock McLean won Carlton's time trial a couple of years ago too!

Ha ha - LOL

A run in the park ain't a twisting turning tackling AFL match, but it my look good on the prjck's cv!

Be keen to hear the best times for our 3 km trial on Friday...

Scully's time is exceptional for an AFL footballer but we know that his aerobic fitness has always been first class. I suspect that the time of 9m 37s would easily put him in the top 5% for AFL footballers and I would be surprised if we get even one player bettering that time on Friday (noting that all courses and the conditions will deiffer thereby having an inluence on times).

More interesting was the fact that the Giants sports science manager John Quinn does acknowledge that Scully has been in rehab - something of which I think we all suspected but to my knowledge hasn't been confirmed previously by the Giants.

It really doesn't add much to the extent of the injury or how it will affect his preparation or his future and I'm sure we'll learn more when the practice and NAB Cup matches start.

It is a question of whether we choose to believe Mr Quinn or not. There has been too many lies disseminated over the Scully issue already. To maintain the big lie it is still to their best interest to continue lying.

I think there is enough irregularities out in the open to indeed form the strongest of views that Tom has been less than honest. The way it went down in the last days is laughable at best and I dont think many are now trying to defend the view that he signed up the day he announced. As to when it when it went down lots of varying opinions.

I'm the last person to believe everything that's said about Scully and his family but distrusting the word of John Quinn is a bit of a stretch. For one thing Scully has done times like that before and has excelled at a number of different forms of endurance testing in the past. What reason would Quinn have for lying?

Because he is with GWS. Nothing personal but I expect he will tow the company line.

Like WJ, I think you're drawing a long bow Jackie but I can understand why you would.

GW$ and the AFL have invited this sort of skepticism with their shoddy conduct. It's unfortunate for someone like John Quinn or any other employee at GW$ of good repute, but that's what happens when you lie down with dogs.

agreed - there has been so much of " i have no idea what to believe anymore" that I now tend to take everything with a very tiny grain of salt.

yes..but to what end.

If it is hocum and his knee is crock it will show in his performance if he gets to perform at all.

Totally agree, but i think it is very strange that a chronic dodgy knee that missed half our season is now setting a seriously good time within months.

I never liked this from the beginning. His latent knee problems resurfaced uncomfortably soon after the start of the GWS rumours despite reports he was training like a gun immediately beforehand. The rumours and his dicky knee tracked a parallel course for the remainder of the season. Despite the occasional bandage and icepack he never moved or looked like he carried an injury in his few games with us last season. Then he signs the biggest ever AFL contract despite having a season ruined by injury with associated poor form and diminished skills. All too much to believe unless I like to feel gullible.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
