It hard to go straight past this without at least stopping for moment and going hmmmmm !!!

Great get Master.

Re Bail recruitment I believe he was one of Dean Bailey's picks so BP should not get the credit.

Not sure that's exactly true.

Most components of the MFC have been on the improve over the past 4 years.

BP was a large part of a very the most disappointing an underachieving dept of the club for the past 4 years.

Just like other departures from this department , maybe it was the right time for the planets to align.

Personally I struggled with the Gawn in preference to Vardy arrangement, but we will all have our own views I guess.

Carlton will find out a bit more about our old news strategy, but their insight into our future recruiting may have ended just a few weeks after last years recruiting.

You could almost be forgiven for putting it as simply as Neeld had one particualr vision of the makeup of his players. ....and Predergast had a slightly differentn one . Neeld when he got to the club expressed his opinion about the holes in the list. Well list makers as the name suggests make lists. Predergast was a major component in the makeup of our list....a list found wanting.

Since Neeld arrived we chased and got a player the type of which wasnt on BP's radar. Weve recruited types which were BP's past types and BP has gone.

quack...quack...quack !!

It's funny.

Not last year were we discussing the virtues of Prendergast in comparison to Craig Cameron.

And now we are revisioning our own revisioned history? To what end?

Looking for any reason to believe this wasn't a loss for the club...

I am not saying that Prendergast leaving is a loss, I am saying no-one on here knows.

revising ?

just observing.

The club is changing, has changed , will change more. people change and there are changes of people. BP was one such occurence.

Choco is amongst the rare it seems.

I was not refering to your post.

And there is more than 'observation' in this thread..

There is 'speculation', 'extrapolation', and more than enough 'creation'...

Yes, well we usually don't have threads with 'Conspiracy Theory' in the title.

I love conspiracies, personally. I am convinced that the CIA offed Kennedy, but if I became the Congressman from the 1st district of the 51st state I wouldn't blog about it...

And I thought John Kennedy left the Hawks to go to the Swans on his own accord. Should have looked for more clues.

The Swans?

Swan Lake?

The Magic Ballet?

Please tell me someone went there with me and got that?

I have heard today that Barry will take up avrole with the Hawks.

I totally agree, If it looks, waddles and quacks like one it usually is.

Another to ponder on. If you do what you did, then you get what you got.

BP's position was untenable, after he was seemed to be over ridden on just about all selections.

What is wrong with - new coach, new ideas, new needs, new recruiting manager?

All too simple for the JFK/LHO/CIA/FBI/KGB/ETC theorists? (With whom, incidentally, I tend to agree with on most occasions)

Posted

Sorry i don't see a conspiracy at all here. And i do like 'em!!

BP has left to pursue coaching. The MFC are now able to draft more than just skinny 17 year olds as we saw in the last years draft. Things change. BP leaves the building, tomorrow the sun will rise.

Thanks for your hard work BP.

Pity about $cully, but otherwise...

Still can't believe we picked Strauss over Zaharakis in 2008.

On the flip side he may have struck gold with Howe.

Overall, the result are average at the moment.

I was suspect on Strauss for a long time, but he really started to improve big time just before the break.

I have high hopes still.

The aspect that makes it intriguing is the timing. Most coaching positions via the merry go round sorted themselves out months ago . If simply a case of pursuing a dif gig why didn't he move camps once the drafting finished ? I suspect 'things" were clarified and egos were ruffled. I'm not really fussed , well get another recruiter and if the trend follows suit an even better one.

For the same reason Dane Swan (Brownlow Medal etc. etc.) was taken at pick 58.

It's informed guess-work as to what will happen with 17 and 18 years olds, 5 or more years down the track. There will always be players we should have taken, and there will always be pleasant surprises. AFL week-in week-out is a huge step up from under-age comps, and you only have to look at the long-term success (or otherwise) of the Rising Star nominations, to see that even when young players are in the system and performing really well, it's still no guarantee that they'll make it as A-grade 200-gamers.

The only way to judge BP will be to wait a few years, and then look at the totality of his picks. Singling out one or two picks as evidence (either for or against) ... hard to see what it says about his capabilities or contribution.

For me, I like what I've seen with BP's lower-end and rookie picks, but time will tell. At least I feel that we now have the coaching staff to help these young guys maximise their potential.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
