Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good idea to put monkey's on everyone's back . Frankly i dont see the purpose of such an impatient motto. Will the Club give out lit red and blue torches that supporters can wave outside the changerooms if we lose a game badly.

The pressure is already on Neeld because he has list that coming into its maturity phase in next 1 to 2 years for the window of opportunity, he has Clark and a better structured FD. And if we have a flat year the membership numbers/ attendances will tell a tale.

...

Not putting monkies on anyones back. Just reconfirming to all that we can't use anything as an excuse anymore. We have things in place on and offield to make us a better team, and we have a draw that should ensure supporters get to see a number of games, and that while a lot of work has been done by Stynes & co, we can't rest on our laurels.

Maybe in 2013 RR we can use it. There are absolutely no excuses...no first year coach, no poor facilities, no reason for a melbourne follower not to financially support the club - especially with improved onfield performance in 2012.

Not sure what your call re impatient motto is all about. Go and ask Mr Neeld if anyone (player or supporter) has any excuses this year.

You are setting yourself up for a fail and egg on your face if you dont succeed. "No more excuses" implies impatience or frustration when rather than excuses there have been reasons and good ones why you have not achieved whatever it is you expected to achieve. Its smacks of failure to understand the issues the Club has been through and is dismissive of the efforts to date. I wouldnt use it at all. Excuses suggests a cop out for some past failing. Its wrong and its cringeworthy. I dont know why you think we have been given "excuses" because we are now where we logically thought we would be when the rebuild was started. If this is not good enough for some supporters then they have the tinted glasses on too tight. Its the biggest rebuild a side has ever undertaken on the field (playing list) and off the field (Board, FD, debt) by a Club. Its a major cop out by those too emotive to think through the issues of the moment and dismiss explanations of less than expected outcomes as "excuses".

IMO the slogan sucks and hits all the wrong buttons. You should sell it to the Club for their reaction

Sorry HT, I read it that JJ didn't want a slogan like that becasue it was putting pressure on a new coach (ie. already making an excuse). Apologies if I read it the wrong way.

Jack Jack's point wasn't just his last sentence. He like many would prefer that it didn't blow up in the clubs face having a slogan as such for a 1st year coach implementing a new game plan.

My slogan was No More Excuses JJ, and what's your last sentence?

It's not an excuse, it's the reality. Maybe in a few years time when the coach has had a chance to implement his game plan and maybe had a finals appearance we can start putting that kind of pressure on the team.

Bear in mind also that these campaigns would have months of planning and development. Generation D was probably already well and truly in the pipeline before Neeld was appointed as head coach.

IMO the last 5000 members are only swayed by performance.

Have a good Nab cup and win 3 of the first four games and they put their hands in their pockets.

A good point. We have a core supporter base but to get to the 40k we need to appeal to the fair weather supporters and that means winning games or at least being competitive (Thanks Dean).

Also at the moment we are comparing membership figures to dates. By this time last year we had already completed and won our first round NAB cup match. Our first round NAB cup match is still a week away. It'll be interesting to see the comparison after that performance.

Given the debacle both on and off the field over the past 12 months, i think there will be supporters who will wait and see the early performances before they buy the hope after one meaningless NAB Cup victory.

And if we are going to get to 40k, we are going to have to win more new supporters etc as well as fair weather ones. I reckon we need two good years of upward improvement where we win as many or more games than we lose.

The last 12 months have not been a great sell for MFC.

I've still go t my Grand Final Guarantee as one year it will come in handy.

What got me to start becoming a member 14 years ago was my grandfather being given a free kids membership as an option with his. now for the first couple of years after that after the initial free membership he paid for it, but as soon as i got a part time job and now full time i've been paying up each year. The club should do another thing like this if feasable, even now with the 3 game memberships available. give one kids 3 game membership free as an option with a full priced adult 18 game membership. It could well pay dividends with the next generation of young demons who will hopefully see a sustained period of successs for the MFC.

I know they are already doing something with the Casey donation program of giving away tickets and i think this too is a brilliant idea. get the kids hooked like i was at an early age and every year they see that years of consecutive membership number grow, the more unlikely they are to let it lapse once they stand on their own two feet.

Here is the 31st of March comparison:

2009 - we had 27,128 members

2010 - we had 27,595 members

2011 - we have 32,386 members

I like this comparison from last years membership thread.

So with roughly 6 weeks to go we've got to signup close to 8000 members to match last years figures. Seems like a lot.

A good showing in the NAB cup will go a long way to making up those kind of numbers.

Someone on Bigfooty mentioned they hadnt been given a MCC/MFC membership because they were having trouble working it out or something.

Anybody else experiencing this?

He said these memberships werent counted as yet as a result

edit - qouted

I renewed my membership over a month ago (AFL Melbourne Club support), and received an email this morning asking why I still hadn't signed up.

Rang the club and was told that they were having problems with the rollover from AFL/MCC members who have Melbourne club support.

Taking that into consideration, we can probably add a few thousand to that total.

That could explain a lot.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't at least on par with last year.

This from the club just now.... So who are you....Show your face or Pay up!!!

Melbourne Football Club

Our member tally has reached 25,277, but there are still 16,374 members from 2011 who haven’t renewed and over 150,000 Demon supporters around Australia who aren’t paid up.

We will leave no stone unturned to reach 40,000 members in 2012. If you haven’t joined up yet, we want you to tell us what we can do to make YOU join today.

Exactly DD. Direct debits are not hard to set up.

The only way this club will win a 13th flag is to become financially stronger & that starts with members. The good thing atleast is we have thousands of new members.

The NAB cup may be somewhat irrelevant as to how a sides gunna travel in the season proper, but it can really do wonders in terms of boosting supporter confidence and excitement.

Carlton in the mid noughties are a perfect example. Won the 'Wizard Cup' which led to a huge spike in membership numbers.

If we can manage a win against either Collingwood or Hathworn, who knows what that'll do for the membership tally

I just signed up as a member. I lapsed last year due to being overseas and just forgetting about it. In order to prevent it happening again i just signed up to the 'Demon for Life' option so my membership is just automatically deducted. I can't really afford to buy a full membership at this stage, but as an MCC member i am happy to donate $60.00. I have been a member since 1983.

If there are people on here that are MCC members and haven't signed up, please sign up. I think we can really shake the 40k barrier this year. We can get back to being a big club in this town. The challenge is there!!

Good stuff BH. it all helps. The club should push the "Demon for life" option a bit harder. It is beneficial to both club and member

TBH WYL, I tried to do it all myself on the net but couldnt figure out the option. There was a form you had to fill out and send it. I just wanted to do it all online. Eventually just called the club and a bloke sorted it in 2 mins for me. They had my details already, I guess from when I was last a member. Very easy.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
