Absolutely WYL, and let's hope that we see some early form in both pre and proper season so we can hit that 40k mark.

I have no doubt the club can get in excess of 40 k members this year...but it will depend on results...Club Websites Martin Flanagan Articles Family Days are all Fabulous and i support them, But it now comes down to winning on the Park...Members want to see that, whether or not all our list has played 50 games or not.

Value for money now comes down to on field performance.

As an MFC 'supporter' you have an obligation to become a member in my mind. A historically low supporter base, a supporter base that is weighted towards an older age group. It's a responsibility to get signed up to ensure a strong club.

1000 members could represent anywhere from 15,000 to 30,000 dollars for us this is significant.

To base buying a membership for the MFC on hype or perceived return on investment is so disheartening. Especially when the guy who saved the club has stepped down in the faith that we will cherish and own our 2nd chance.

It's up to us now it's up to the rank and file to beat the drum and even to get new supporters signed up to the MFC.

If we each found one other person to sign up to the MFC we would literally be a juggernaut doesn't seem that hard to achieve.

It's also up to the club to take the lead in it's marketing and promotion. It starts at the top I'm afraid.

Not exciting enough, dont win enough, don't know enough about them, not value for money, profile isn't high enough. The typical wheelbarrow of antipathy.

As a supporter i demand 100% from the team i follow I find it hypocritical if I in return aren't 100% committed. It borders the repugnant to opt not to be a member for $10 a week. You become so much more than a fair weather supporter, but part of the lifeblood of your club.

HT - when was last year's intraclub match (was it pre 17th Feb)? I wonder if that is a reason for the gap, or if in fact we are just behind what we were.

Last years practice match was Feb 3rd. And last year there was an expectation of at least pushing for the finals.

Another good point HT, and one that I have commented about in the past.

The other year, that Carlton slogan "They know we're coming", just priceless. There wouldn't be many Carlton followers that wouldn't have though "bugger it, I'm getting a membership". It was arrogant, in a way that only a big club could do it, and it worked. They DID back it up, and are looking a threat, some 3 years or so since that campaign.

What's ours? I think it's been taken down from the website, but was it Generation D or I Bleed Red & Blue Do You? I can't remember which one, but that's probably the point I'm making - very uninspiring.

Putting that expectation on the Carlton group in the way they did, they had to deliver and improve. Did they let the playing group have any other option?

If so that may explain a jump from the last comparison back on Feb 3 on this thread when the comparative tallies were quite close.

Nab Cup 1st round was Feb 11 and it was a win, so that probably helped the cause too.

Last year was a bit of an abherration with the longer season and earlier start.

Perhaps we should get some suggestions HT and give them to our marketing department - maybe the Club could run a competition (although they do pay people at the club to do this sort of stuff!).

That is why beating either Collingwood or Hawthorn is very important.

Do that and the numbers will jump.

However I will be surprised if we exceed 2011 numbers, at this time last year there was lots of promise on the back of an improved 2010.

While there have been lots of changes to the club before the start of the 2012 season it is all promise at present.

Delivery in the first month is vital otherwise the " I have heard it all before" rises and the last 5000 members stay home and keep their hands in their pockets.

I buy my full membership every year weather we are good or not. It is really a donation as I can't get to many matches. I am also a full member of the MCC. I consider it my duty to be a member of the team I have supported since 1960. It should not matter if we win early games. You are either in or out

We don't need to get to 40k in '12 but we do need to keep having a new 'record' membership.

Hopefully we will see a few spirited NAB practice games. With Clark and the new leaders impressing. That might get us back on track.

Melbourne's social media presence is pathetic. I unsubscribed (but still like) Melbourne's Facebook page. The updates were dull, uninformative and too robotic. Not surprising that the club hired someone that clearly knows nothing about online communities.

There was amongst the rose coloured glass brigade but on Dland as a straw poll I thought the weight of expectation was that we would not make it. There is always hope but there was enough reality.

Good idea to put monkey's on everyone's back . Frankly i dont see the purpose of such an impatient motto. Will the Club give out lit red and blue torches that supporters can wave outside the changerooms if we lose a game badly.

The pressure is already on Neeld because he has list that coming into its maturity phase in next 1 to 2 years for the window of opportunity, he has Clark and a better structured FD. And if we have a flat year the membership numbers/ attendances will tell a tale.

Hopefully we will see a few spirited NAB practice games. With Clark and the new leaders impressing. That might get us back on track.

And I cant see we would ever get it but we must reclaim the momentum as you have pointed out.

And if we do have a better season this year, the membership numbers are more likely to reflect it in 2013 when people jump on the bandwagon.

I too buy a full MFC membership which is a straight donation as I am also an MCC member.

Buying a full MFC membership as an MCC member also gives me ONE junior MFC membership for free. To date I have used the junior MFC for my youngest daughter. From next season she will be too old for the junior membership. (Then like her two older siblings, she will become a concession MFC member).

Will I forego the junior membership - NO. I will make sure the junior MFC membership goes to a budding junior Demon supporter. I will get 'junior' on board barracking for the mighty Dees at a young age.

This is a chance to increase our membership numbers (but not necessarily dollars) - and it may even entice the parent(s) of 'junior' to become an MFC member.

So my point is - if you are a full MFC/MCC member, then make sure you get the free junior membership and sign up a budding Demon supporter.

Maybe the Football Club could identify those full MFC/MCC members who have not taken up the free junior membership and urge the full MFC/MCC member to sign up a budding Demon supporter.
