This is very big news in my opinion.

To finally have a MFC player penciled in at Full Forward is not something we have had at either Sandy or Casey affiliations.

To have Brett Lovett and this decision come through makes me as a MFC member, feel closer to the Scorps.

It appears that Brendan Fevola was never going to play for Casey Scorpions in 2012.

Casey's Matthew Young tweeted as follows today:-

"Another media beat up about Fev!! Training with us until Xmas for AFL draft, if not listed he's off to try NFL for 2012."

Fev has previously mentioned his intention to try for the NFL if he is not drafted in November or December and it's only proper in view of the service he gave to the club in 2011 for him to be able to train there till the end of the year. He's kicking bags in the NTFL so it's not as if he's going to be a problem.

I'm no fan of Fevola but I must say it's a shame that he can't earn a living from a game in which he excels, I don't particularly want him at Casey but I hope he gets himself right and gets a gig somewhere.

The local Cranbourne newspaper, the Star, has this story on the Lovett appointment:-

Lovett seeks the Scorpions' sting

Seems there will be more of a Melbourne-centric flavour at Casey in the future.

I believe they are drawn to play against Williamstown at Casey Fields in the opening game next year.

DC if they morf into the MFC seconds that will never happen.

Experience of recent years shows the vast majority of "seconds" teams struggle to win games.

The stand alone clubs will dominate the competition.

The "seconds teams" do not have the number 1 objective of winning the flag.

Their major desire is to develop skinny 18 year olds.

If they morf into the MFC seconds the only reason to watch Casey is to see how the skinny kids play.

IMO it will not be about playing in September.

We have been thrashed at willy when Casey were trying to be a power.

As a MFC seconds team we will have no hope.

It will be Skinny kids playing a team full of tough experienced players.

I can see where you are coming from old dee, but I've been a Melbourne supporter all my life, and only drifted in as a Casey fan when the alignment was established a couple of years ago. I'm unashamedly selfish about wanting the alignment to serve Melbourne first, and Casey second, if that's the way it must be for Melbourne to make inroads on #13.

I can see where you are coming from old dee, but I've been a Melbourne supporter all my life, and only drifted in as a Casey fan when the alignment was established a couple of years ago. I'm unashamedly selfish about wanting the alignment to serve Melbourne first, and Casey second, if that's the way it must be for Melbourne to make inroads on #13.

My worry is that the team will become a basket case and we will bleed money into it with little return.

If Casey becomes an easy beat with no chance of playing finals e.g. Collingwood, will the locals show any interest in AFL and Casey / Melbourne as a brand?

The dees had there own seconds for a long time after 1964 and it did not seem to help us win a flag.

I am not convinced turning Casey into the MFC seconds will achieve any more than the arrangement up to 2011.

IMO it could be worse

And a part time coach, shows how serious they are about the whole thing.

Smells of jobs for the boys

I see little evidence that the guy is anything wonderful as a coach.

Part time attitude results in a part time result for mine.

I disagree. It didn't and does not effect the likes of Nth Ballarat, Werribee, Bullants, Williamstown from playing finals whilst still servicing the needs of their AFL counterparts.

I don't share your concerns old dee. I didn't like the Fevola situation last season, and that is no doubt influencing my view, but I certainly don't see the Lovett appointment, or even the notion of Casey becoming a quasi Melbourne seconds, as spelling the beginning of the end for Casey FC's competitiveness. Further, if the whole MFC / Casey relationship is taken into account (ie. with the community,schools, junior football etc), I can only see a win/win outcome.

I support your point of vie, but these young players need to learn that winning feeling to make them realize what is all about!
