New Melbourne Theme Song?!

Featured Replies

Posted

Anyone else see the theme song DeeTV posted to YouTube a few days ago? I would be disappointed if this became our standard theme.

A banjo? Really?!

EDIT: For comparison - here is our standard version:

Sunnyside up ? Smacka Fitzgibbon on the banjo ? Just sayin !

There was another version put on the AFL themes album a few years ago and it was MUCH worse than this. This just seems like a slightly updated version of the old song with a stronger banjo added, don't know why it needs to be changed TBH.

This sounds different, like the whole thing has been its pitch lifted, but I am pretty sure there was always banjos in the theme song....

You could be right, but they sound much more pronounced in this version.

Could hardly notice the difference...

Listen to the first five seconds of both and tell me you can hardly notice a difference.

Well this is the best quality one I could found that sounds like the current one on YouTube - to me, it sounds more like they've digitally cleaned it up a fair bit. Because of it it makes the banjo more noticeable - you can still hear it though in this one.

I'm all for them remastering, but they seem to have toned down the brass (best part of traditional VFL theme songs) and increased the banjo usage and audibility throughout.

The DeeTVOfficial one is better.

But they're so close, who cares? I'm not going to lose sleep over a bit of remastering.

I'd like some thought into a new song .

Ours doesn't do it for me .

There's no " Riding the bumps with a grin" , " Fight and Fight and win " , " The greatest team all " , "the team that never let's you down" etc , etc .

What 'ave we got ' Should old aquaintance be forgot " Pffft .

I like em both. Lets just alternate them, one for home games, one for away games?

btw I'm tone deaf too

There's a banjo in the original as well, it's just more pronounced in the new version.

When I saw the thread title, I was imagining cheesy drum beats and synthesisers as other clubs have done. As it is, it still retains a strong traditional flavour, I can't even tell if the vocals have been re-recorded or just remastered.

It makes me wonder, it these songs can be produced so close to the original, why do so many of the new club's songs come out sounding like advertising jingles?

You're [censored] me right? We genuinely have the second best song running round in the AFL - only better one is Richmond.

Screw that, we have the best one!

Yeah, let's change our colours, too. Lets be the team of the yellow, red, blue, black, white, navy, purple, maroon, gold and brown. Did I miss any?

Honestly, why not keep our modest, unique and time-worn song and just turn our attention to something a little more important?

Theres nothing wrong with our song, however there is something seriously wrong with having the trumpet version played before every home game. Makes more people cringe than those that enjoy it. If you want to make the club more appealing to potential new supporters then do a better job of striking a chord with them.

i have the original "Fable Singers" version in my itunes and that's the only version i will ever play...Leave it alone, it does not need fixing please MFC.

Is this thread a joke - the banjo is in both versions - just toned down. You'll find we are not the only club with the dreaded banjo.

I took an American friend to the footy many years ago - Melb v Richmond. It was well into the first quarter before he could pick himself up off the ground laughing at both songs.

The only teams that should have banjo in their club songs are Adelaide and Port Adelaide!

I prefer the duelling banjo's !

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
