Front of Jumper Sponsor...Any Update?

With Energy Watch on board for 3 years at a value of 6 million has there been any news on the new front of jumper sponsor?

-Is Kaspersky re-signing?

-Any truth to the rumour that a Korean company is coming on board? (I read somewhere online that Kia is being courted by Essendon)

- Have you heard of any whispers?

Last I heard we may possibly be getting Bank of Melbourne as our sponsor as well....??

However, I haven't heard much about that lately.

Keeping Hankook or Kaspersky would be fine. ;)

Also be happy to retain both. It begs the notion though that if both even paid the same as before theyd still not be a major sponsor bit somewhere just above Platinum, whats that.. really-really-special !! Hope they do stay in some capacity...and thanks.

Its become very intriguing now to see who it is and why the wait. Are we continuing our trend this season and poaching someone else's ?

The FoJ must be in the neighbourhood of 2M pa . Not that many in that rarified atmosphere but having said that there was an article somewhrere over the weekend about what amazing value a sponsorship of an AFL club ( a decent one ) is to a potential sponsor. Must find it .

Has anyone checked out Energy Watch? Do they have the cash flow to provide $2M a year for 3 years?

http://www.accc.gov....fromItemId/2332

I noticed at the bottom of that "Issued: 26th August 2011". Anyone remember when the deal was struck? If it happened before, you would have to assume the club was aware of the action. Is a bit worrying though.

this isn't a huge issue.

Slap on the wrist action for EnergyWatch. This would have come from pressure from the energy companies to the ACCC that EnergyWatch don't recommend their services.

This is basically action from ACCC saying that they are promising and claiming untruthful facts about their services. This isn't something unusal. Alot of companies (In particular retail, Telecommunications and other sales based industries) get warnings and fines for making claims that aren't true or 'bend' the truth in one way of another.

I for one am sure that EnergyWatch will be around for at least the next 3 years.

I must confess Im curious as to the wheres and why's if not the WHO that is to be our FoJ sponsor, our new joint major benefactor..

Im bemused every time I see a BoM ad and remeber that strange red tinge on its sites homepage, most odd.

Anyway much of this is purely our speculative guessowrk . Whilst watching a late night show I saw an ad for some Chinese mob called Chanhong.

Never heard of them before. They as it seems are the second largest manufacturer of Tellies in China, much of it exported. We havent seen this brand probably as much wil lhave been badged I imagine. But they are now spruiking in their own right. This reminded me of when LG came onto the Aussie scene. Paractically no one had heard of them before. I had slightly as I was buyiing Hifi ( I retailed) and they were an OEM mob for other brands before they also burst upon the scene.

LG is a household name now. We helped. Kapsersky is a household name now, we helped.

Im trying to figure out why we havent seen the new co sponsor yet. if they are an exisitng company youd think theyd be here right now. Why wait. if however its all part of a greater roll out of a brand then the timing etc becomes more particular.

Probably nothing but funny if history repeated itsself.

Whomever it is they will be spending big bikkies.

That's assuming Energy* Watch paid market value.

I have been eagerly awaiting an announcement of the FoJ sponsor, and the investment they make, especially considering the well publicised deal with EW*. I still think it's a great deal for the MFC, but not an expected deal. But, I can't help but wonder who paid for the big marketing push that came from the announcement, in terms of full page ads in the papers (not sure how much that would cost), adverts on TV with MFC players. Did this come out of the EW* marketing budget, or was it out of the MFC sponsorship package? I don't remember seeing such media advertising from past sponsors (to the point of whole page ads, tv ads, etc).

If we can get the big bikkies for the front, then good. That's why Cam Schwab is in the job he is, and I'm in the one I'm in! But I know if we can land a $1.3m sponsor for the front, anything above that is icing. It will be interesting to see the comments made on here about C Schwab if, god forbid, I'm right for a change.

Edit: *Changed to Energy Watch for B59's benefit.

The footy club I look after (Bentleigh) borrowed the Dee's clash jumper for their final 2 games this year (prelim & grandy in SFL) the guy who organised it let slip that the new sponsor going on the front was BoM, hence the club were happy to lend the jumpers out as they have to get replaced. He isn't a demon fan, nor had any idea that energy watch had already signed up, and nothing had been announced about the front. Take out that what you will :)

Murmurings on these and other boards (Demonology & Big Footy) were that BoM was going to be the sponsor but we were going to go with Kia as the money was better. However recent other mutterings have linked Kia to Essendon so you can assume that either Essendon pipped us as the Dogs did with Mission Foods a couple of years ago or BoM upped their offer. Either way it seems the offer will be substantial and together with the Energy Watch sponsorship should be a great windfall for the club. Here's hoping.

Yeah I think BoM would be good as I could see us being able to form a long-standing partnership with them, similar to Sydney & QBE and WCE and is it SGIO? Kia would probably be a big windfall but we may get greater longevity from BoM. Either way it is a long way from where we were a couple of years ago where we were without a sponsor just weeks before the start of the season. This board has done tremendous things for our club over the last few years, let's hope the players and FD can translate that to some on-field success very soon.

there is quite a bit of a wait between trade week and draft day, i expect an announcement to be made during this period. Offers maximum media exposure

Notice Essendon happy enough to announce a sponsor in Trade Week... why arent we ? Be a lot easier to get all the 2012 paraphanalia sorted if you have the sponsors announced. Lead time on merchandise etc.

Theories and Questions popped into my head when i heard about Kia .

Theory - Never really stood a chance with Kia i feel once we explained how we are trying to engage the Chinese market. South Korea and China historically aren't the best of friends. Shame because a 5 year deal would have been brilliant.

Questions - Could the faint dream of exposing the club to say 100 million Chinese come at the cost of a 5 year deal that i'd be guessing worth about $1.5 million a year?

Does the club have a secondary option? Bank of Melbourne seems to keep popping up.

Have we signed a sponsor worth more than the deal Kia offered? Are they from China?

If the answer to no to all of the above..Does that mean EnergyWatch paid above the market rate?

Either we have landed a massive fish or Energy Watch gets bumped up to front of jumper and a new company comes on board for slightly less.

Lastly, when are we going to announce it?

PS - I hate Essendon......

Along the notion of a possibly Chinese connection i revert back to the idea of someone like Changhong who seem to be launching thier brand here at present. In the same fashion as we helped launch LG many years ago.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
