Brendan McCartney to Bulldogs

Let's get Cameron from the Hawks. Steal some more IP.

Have to wait until their season is over, but it would be great to get him.

The only thing is, he may be in the running for the Saints or Crows jobs anyway, and if he misses those jobs, why wouldn't you stay with Clarko?

Because you need to broaden your horizons to get the senior gig.

Look at Neeld - the guy had to do everything to get to where he is.

Buckley and Hird can sweep in because they are legends of the game (or should that be club...).

Bulldogs administration will be relieved that Striker475 of Demonland fame has justified their decision. :)

Agreed, Cameron has only been there one year - he'll stay at Hawthorn if he doesn't get a senior job.

McCartney coached Ocean Grove to 4 consecutive premierships...what?

Checked wiki..McCartney led them to 4 flags in the 90s, then Neeld led them to 4 flags in the 00s. Eerily similar achievements for these two guys!

I think 'stealing IP' from clubs is an overrated, erroneous term.

Did we get 'loads of IP' from when Royal came from St Kilda, West from the Dogs or Connolly/O'Donnell from Freo?

Or even Viney from Adelaide via Hawthorn for that matter.

I can hardly see any tangible evidence of this. Game plans and tactics and strategies change drastically by the

year, clubs have to adapt and react to trends quickly. This was a flailing of the Bailey ethos, trying to implement

a game plan that worked circa 2007 with a bunch of players that were just not comparable.

It might be subjective (although I'm not confident that it is), but the IP from the top clubs with fine tuned game plans (the best performed teams) may hold some handy information we would like to learn from.

Neeld did mention words such as "quality, strong, diverse, successful"..I don't see that from Royal, West etc.

whos coaching Ocean Grove atm..can we get them too

Over-analyse the term all you like.

The major reason Neeld is coaching the club is because he intimately knows the worklings of the Colligwood Footy Club.

We need that IP.

It certainly does. Immediately Neeld was able to offer the opinion of a league leader and current Premier as to how they ( Filth ) view us. It wasnt that pretty apparently and it straight away offered an insight not previously avaialble to us.

Any information ( intelligence ) is only as good as its source and relevance.

Yeh, but broadening your horizons to a first timer when you are with a premiership coach whose club is well and truly still in its window seems like a backwards move to me.

Experience son.

Work and excel with all types and soon enough your own leadership abilities will shine through.

Not that it means a great deal (or maybe it does), but McCartney's been coaching for 22 years, yes he - like Neeld - also coached Ocean Grove to four premierships (in the 90's). He didn't play at the highest level, but he is well respected and comes highly rated having been an assistant at Geelong for sometime during their '07-'09 Premierships.

Footnote: Neeld played ~74 AFL games with Geelong/Richmond. Coached 2000-03 Premierships at Ocean Grove.

Ocean Grove and all those involved would be a proud footy club right now.

Surely you're not suggesting, everything else being equal, that Neeld wouldn't have got the gig if he were coming from a bottom 8 club?

Posted
Wow............looks like both us and the Bulldogs got their man!

I wonder who will end up being right!

And Adelaide are insisting that their first choice is still available. Is it possible that three coaching sub-committees genuinely came up with three different 'best options'?

Posted

I think the bulldogs picked the right man for their team, the returning son ie "leon", isn't always the answer but emotion. WHich lasts about half a season in reality IMO. Though Brendan does have a funny end to his nose...skin cancer or something?

We need that IP.

So do you think our coaching sub-committee went straight to the collingwood staff list, looked at who their assistants were

and simply picked one from there because they were so desparate for Collingwoods IP and didnt consider anyone else?

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
