The collar serves a relatively insignificant purpose in the scheme of things.

It's there for aesthetics, but also as an aesthetic link to our past.

It is one small thing, that along with a lot of other things, cumulatively link to the club's rich history.

It's important to promote the "story" of the club, and the collar does this in a small way.

Not to mention the fact that I think it looks GREAT.

If I had a choice between collar and no collar, I'd choose the collar every time.

We agree to disagree.

You would have a superfluous and insignificant thing around the back of your neck (when other things would likely tell the story of our history better) and I would not.

I have no problem with the Collar. We should embrace more things that differentiate us from the rest of the pack, especially the Franchise sides. Would love to know from the club if they sold more jumpers this year and what the overall feedback has been?

Yes diesel, to know what the pos figures are for this year would be interesting.

It's only a freakin' collar but the sheep on this site and the love in for a collar says a lot.

The new coach will trim a lot more in the players and so should the jumper.

Get rid of the collar! It's ridiculous! And it serves no purpose WHATSOEVER!

It has no visual appeal that I or my family of dee supporters can see.

It uses extra fabric which is unnecessary (not that that's a key point).

But lastly, a clean and simple V neck ribbing - with no collar - will give our glorious Melbourne jumper a stronger cleaner meaner line.

I love the collar.

It would look great with leather patches on the elbows and a nice tweed tie.

To your first point, collars were worn in previous era's and having a small collar does represents a link back to that.

You and your family do not see a visual appeal but there are plenty on this site including myself who think it is visually appealing.

You keep saying that no one has presented a resonable argument to keep it (other than their personal opinions) but you have not presented any reason to get rid of it other than you and your family's opinion that it serves no purpose or doesn't look good.

It's a personal opinion on whether it looks good or not... and from what I can see the overwhelming majority are saying to keep it.

It was never meant to serve as a practical component of the jumper but it was meant to be a sign of acknowledgement to the history of our great club.

Keep the collar!

Can't agree.

I can't see how there is a downside to it.

I doubt that it annoys the players or has an effect on their performance.

If you have worn one you'd agree that they are the most comfortable guernsy we have ever had.

For me, it's a keeper.

You have never played have you?? If you had you would know that a V-neck is a no no. Too easy to grab, fingers get caught etc.

I like the fact we have chosen a different path to others.

And get rid of posters who want to push a dead horse! The collar is fine. The BEST way for our boys to be tough and hard is not to remove the collar but to PLAY tough and hard. Clearly, Dee-mon you are fighting a losing argument here. Close the topic Mods.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But you're in an insignificant minority if this thread is any indication, which I'm confident it is.
