I would have thought they could have done Neeld the favour of letting him finish off a back-to-back campaign he has sweated over by just telling him he can start in 2 weeks. Pretty straightforward really.

And yet you'll probably be one of the one's who complain about us being perceived as weak and push overs.

Club first mate. Neeld has no problems with this- he's forgotten about Collingwood's midfield already.

Harden up. I lol at you!

I thought you have the exact opposite opinion on this.

He's our head coach.

If he wants to coach us for a decade - he better get started right away and show some commitment.

He was an assistant coach. He doesn't get a medal or an award for winning a premiership. Neeld was right to offer his services to Malthouse as it is loyal. But Malthouse was right to turn him down, it's the right thing for Mark, for the MFC and for the CFC.

It would not be a favour -his head would not be there and they need complete focus. It also doesn't help us at all. Pretty simple really.

The naysayers, and there are plenty of them apparently, who insist we have somehow failed because we didn't land a 'big fish' a la Malthouse or Lyon, I think are somewhat premature in their indignation.

Can you name at least some of them given there are plenty of them?

I thought the reaction to Neeld has been very positve across the Board.

*Face Palm*

How about they do us the favour first and foremost. Even more straightforward and the bleedin obvious.

Same thing happened to Bailey at Port when he became our senior coach if i remember correctly, let's hope it is not an omen...

Of course he needs to start immediately - we've got list management and trade period looming straight after the GF. We've got the Scully picks and the GWS U17 draft so it's even more intense than ever. [censored] Collingwood and the donkey they rode in on.

^This.

Not really. Brad Scott found himself in the same situation when named North Melbourne coach. he was part of the Pies coaching and given his marching orders IIRC with filth blessing.

Here's just a few off the first couple of pages of the Neeld thread... I got bored and stopped :-)

does anyone else find it very strange we have appointed Neeld today, meaning he has to walk away from Collingwood immediately? He has been a key member of the coaching staff for 6 months on a premiership campaign, and is going to disappear when they are 2 games from a possible flag? Why didn't we make arrangements with him to start his tenure just after the grand final so he could finish up the season at the Pies? How does Collingwood feel about this?

So many things wrong with this. Others have already touched on how we should focus on doing ourselves a favour before doing Collingwood any, but how about this quote from Mick Malthouse of the MFC website?

We can't have a Melbourne coach sitting on the bench. That would be ludicrous.

It just doesn't make sense at all. His mind is going to be a million miles away.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
