I love the guy.

I detected a little bit of contempt towards the club, but not the players. You can sense his regret that he isn't there anymore, and perhaps upon reflection he might have done a couple of things different, but that's life.

He still has love for our playing group and genuinely wishes them all the success in the world. He is a class act- always has been, always will be.

I will be very sad if he is lost to football forever. Can we give him another job? Is this a viable option?

WOW, class act that man. Best of luck and hopefully one day the boys can line up against a team coached by DB again (and towel them up might I add :) )

Class act Bails.

I'll always have time for him.

No questioning his character.

First class all the way.

Hope he finds some success and his media stints continue into something special for him down the track.

Footy is weird. ND takes us to GFs and top 4s... and his name is mud. Bailey gets us a handful of wins against vic clubs, and not much else, and he's adored by our fans... Odd.

I think both of them deserve our respect. Bailey's dignity is his own reward. How many coaches cop what he's copped and walk away with self respect the way he has? Not many. Compare him to Lyon right now who got his club a lot of success...

Seems to be a very good bloke. Probably too good a bloke to be an AFL coach. Has honesty and integrity, lacks a bit of mongrel. All the good coaches seem to have a ruthless streak. Reminds me a bit of Neil Balme. I think that he would make a fantastic football operations manager. I would love him to take that role at Melbourne, but I think it will be to hard at the moment, needs a few years away to let the new coach take control.

The romantic in me says: Dean Bailey speaks like this because he's a genuine good guy and genuinely likes the MFC players

The cynic in me says: Dean Bailey speaks like this because it is in his interest to be able to say Melbourne should win a premiership because (a) he did the ground work and (B) if it doesn't happen, it's the fault of the next coach because he (Bailey) got them close

I hope the romantic is right and the cynic is wrong.

Spot on !

No doubt both are thoroughly decent blokes, but ND gets a bum wrap on this forum IMHO.

Got us to a GF with a pathetic lack of infrastructure, while also having to double as the front man for all things media. Very underrated

I doubt he'd take it and nor should he.

The guy is a class act all the way though. Needs to remain involved in the game.

To me - that is the issue.

ND took us so far and we were top of the ladder in R18, 2004, only to finish 7th.

Top 2 in R13, 2005 only to scrape in to the 8 and get smashed by Geelong.

3rd in R20, 2006 only to finish 5th.

We could get to heights and never sustain them.

Far more frustrating than the selfless act of rebuilding a playing list at your own detriment.

That's funny, because I still rate Daniher highly, and thought he was a good coach for the MFC..........certainly not mud IMO.

Sure, we had some issues and major inconsistencies under his reign, but we also were a club all over the place when he was in charge.

And he certainly left with his head held high, and to this day I don't remember him giving the club any parting shots or whacks on the way out.

I actually rated him a better coach than Bailey..............I think in general they both come across as really decent blokes, and if nothing else, they should be applauded for the way they handled leaving the club...........it says a lot about both of them.

A great opportunity now exists at Essendon with the appointment of McCartney at the Bulldogs and good luck to him- a gem of a bloke.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
