Malthouse on SEN this morning.

Maher asked him how he feels (!) knowing he's down to his last 8 or 12 quarters coaching.

Malhouse replied that he was acutely aware that last week was his last home and away game coaching Collingwood.

Might not be the exact quote but he quite specifically said "Collingwood".

There's no doubt he wants to coach on, the question is whether it can be in 2012.

If we manage to land Malthouse for next year and beyond, I am firmly of the view that this will be 'the season we had to have'.

Malthouse will definitely turn us into the serious outfit we show glimpses of being.

That's interesting. So this may be one explanation as to Micks personal interest in the Dees over the last few weeks?

Dunno - just speculating. I'd say Malthouse would be a mentor for Burns, and in this context I'd reckon they'd chat about these things.

That said, the MFC may not even be interested in Burns. I'm hoping the MFC has the big fish in its sights - Malthouse is the guy we need (along with Neeld, and Buttifant, and Pendlebury, and a few others on their list).

On league teams last night, Liam Pickering mentioned that both Richmond and Melbourne are chasing the services of Neil Craig as a high performance manager and/or possibly a support person for a new coach. Richmond had offered him a 3 year deal. Be interesting to see how it pans out.

He could play the mark thompson role for someone like a Scott Burns.

Malthouse was on The Game Plan last night. The question was which teams outside the 8 this year will challenge for the 8 next year - he said Richmond and depending on who is coach, Melbourne and smiled and winked. Doesn't mean anything but it was very mischievious.

Just a (rather obvious) thought.

Even though we don't have the cheque book and supporter base of a club like Collingwood, we do have one massive thing in our favour in any negotiation with Mick Malthouse, assuming he wishes to continue coaching.

And that is this. We can genuinely say to Mick, 'With us, you have complete carte blanche to run this team as you wish. Finances permitting, we will also support your wish to bring whoever you need to bring this list to the level it needs to be to win a premiership'.

That's not something Eddie or his mate, FIGJAM, can or will offer him - and I reckon it's something Malthouse believes he is entitled to at this stage in his career.

And this is also in the context that we have a good young list, an expectant and potentially very appreciative supporter base that has not tasted success for generations, and a home ground that is the MCG. No brainer I would've thought (subject to any litigation risk that the Pies may seek to have him sit out for 2012).

Yeah, I think we should bring in whoever he wants, within our means.

But to say we can provide something no one else can, in that we'll get him whatever he wants... well, it's not exactly true.

He may want Phil Jackson as a motivational speaker on retainer and 3 trips to Arizona per year - we simply won't be able to do that.

I know he said "finances permitting", but surely the same would go if he were to head to Carlton, for example.

I just heard on the news a little Carlton kid (looked 10 or 12) quote the odds on the Carlton essendon game. I was gobsmacked! I have never heard odds mentioned by a kid of this age.

This is what the AFL has created by letting gambling agencies free reign over football advertising. I think it is down right criminal that the aFL are creating possible future problem gamblers. Is anyone else outraged over this???

I would love to have MM as our next coach but i have this guy who comes into my shop every week and he has been on the money so far he wont tell me his source but says that the person that he gets his mail from is heavily involved with the mfc .

So far he told me that Scully had agreed to the deal with gws and one month later the ox on Sen confirmed that .

Then he told me that we were after Alister Clarkson well two weeks later it came out in the media that we were after him .

Now the latest is he reckons we have got our man in Mark Neeld think of it as you want he is good odds .

But i hope its MM he was on the panel of ch 7 after the game and was asked about carlton winning its first final for 10 years his remark was he was very happy for Ratten he actually looked releaved time will tell .
