Honestly, it was a pretty good effort for three quarters. If they hadn't blown us away in the second we'd all be reasonably happy with a hard game in which we conceded too many junk time goals to loose by 25 or so. If we'd actually kicked straight in the first quarter we'd have taken a pretty solid lead in and perhaps things would have been different. I'm not thrilled at the margin, but it was 100% better than last week.

Come on...we had 1 good quarter of effort and unfortunately conceded 2 late goals. We folded in the 2nd quarter and they coasted in 1st gear from there on in.

The past few weeks has shown everybody who stands up & who doesn't when the chips are down.

As has been alluded to by many posters in various ways, those who have stood up when the chips are down are the true leaders of the club at the moment. The pseudoleaders have collectively & individually let the team down again.

And I can't for the life of me understand why the recruiters are getting canned. Some of the players BP has brought to the club are the ones who are standing up.

I agree, I propose a class action against Craig Cameron.

At least most of the players put in an effort this week. Joel Mac and Watts were the pick.

Are you kidding??

Very disappointing, can relate to most of the disappointment vented here. I have one family member who wanted to split at half time, another has also lost all passion for this team and berated Dad for committing them to a lifetime of misery. Coming home, he decided to flex his independence and announced he was looking for another team to support.

[update: he's over his disappointment and sticking with the Dees like his Dad... we'll suffer together :) ]

I am simply sick of sitting there and being humiliated by other supporters. High time to give them a bit of the treatment, will be sweet when the day comes.

We have regressed unbelievably even in the past month.

Our leadership was woeful asgain today, promote Trengove ASAP. And No.31 looked like he'd already left.

Now I have to somehow brace for another humiliating Monday. Surely the players could have shown more tenacity, for the Club & Jimmy's sake.

29 scoring shots to 23. We only miss, Carlton could have hit a pin 50m away with their accuracy today. If the gods were kinder, it could have been a 4-5 goal loss, and everybody would be singing the praises of the gallant effort put up by the down and out Demons taking on top 4 Carlton.

Not the end of the world.

I disagree...that would of just papered over the cracks of what was another [censored] weak performance. 1 quarter of effort at the required level, and 3 [censored] poor quarters, of which Carlton only needed to put us to the sword for 1.

Again, the experienced crew were the ones who went missing when required.

Are my eyes deceiving me or do we have two players who struggle with the actual skill of kicking a football ... Jones and Petterd.

Isn't this the first box a recruiter should be ticking? Streuth!

Add Gawn.

And to compound the problem, both Jones & Gawn constantly hanbdball into trouble - happened plenty of times today. It's a great shame, the part of Jones' game that lets him down. I love his physical presence, he just doesn't have the instinctive nous (a la Judd) to know what to do with it when he gets it. Too often caught indecisively holding the ball, as well.

Today was one of those days where everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. Everything from an absolute freak injury to balls just bouncing to opposition.

The football god's were not with us today, but they will come around.

round 19 ring any bells ???

I'm so sick of being so emotionally attached to this club. I personally think about football way too much. I'm guessing a lot of others on here do too. When we play like we did today it puts me in a foul mood for the rest of the weekend.

I'm going to have to limit my time on Demonland as its just an avenue to feed my MFC addiction.

Agree to some extent, but Gawn & Jones each had only 3 handballs, and Jones had 0 frees against, so it can't have happened that often.

And a bit tough to hang it on Gawn, in a game where our so-called leaders let us down so badly. The best demonstration of this is that Max in his 5th game got more DT points than Green, Davey, Bate & Rivers.

For years now and I do mean YEARS, we have not developed any muscle!!

Look at the shoulders of our lot compared to ANY other team, we are WEEDS in comparison. And this was so during Danihers day.

We should only be a season behind the Blues in development ,because they tanked the 2 years before our two years. Oh well perhaps thats 2 years worth of development, it looks like we will be hopeless for years to come I'm afraid!

In had the feeling today that the players are NOT actually trying. Trengoves miss has me puzzled!!

That is all thanks to the antique Junction oval....The Facilities we have now should help that...but it will take a few pre seasons.

Today i thought the attitude and application was pretty good...We must demand better, but they had a crack.

We were beaten by a bigger and stronger side.

We should be where Carlton is by 2013. As long as the whole club improves....demands high sacrifice on & off the field.

This will be a great 5 weeks for Todd Viney, because next year in his development role, he will know that list so much better.

I wrote this in the game day thread....we need to get rid of the soft Daniher era players that are left and give the leadership to the new breed who actually try and run and tackle and get angry when they lose...

The amount of times i saw green, Beamer and Davey just strolling around...pretending to run...standing in no mans land....was just laughable...

Leaders should be Watts..Trenners..Chip...McKenzie..Grimes...I'd put Watts captain...

as for scully...obviously disinterested...put him in Casey and let him go..don't even try and placate him with anything...either he accepts the going rate...200K-300K or goodbye...

Trying not to be negative but these are my thoughts and have been for a while....

Even if last week never happened we are just not up to it against the top sides, plain and simple. When you look at our wins this year we have beaten nobody! We will probably finish with one or two more wins than last year. The new coach whoever it might be must start from absolute scratch, with some new methods and ideas and hopefully bring with him a new culture!!!!

It sounds crazy but i don`t think this club has ever been stable since the Norm Smith days!

Good points raised- just shows that our football department especially, coaching panel are just not up to it -to resurrect or correct their weaknesses.

Spot on mate....I spent a lot of time watching Scully today...i think for his sake and the Clubs sake....when Garry Lyon looks him in the eye i hope he give a very straight answer.

because his footy is suffering now because of all this...up until the Darwin game he had it under control...but now it is definately putting him off.

Time to give G. Lyon the answer Tom...i hope he visits the family this week, i know i would if i was in charge.

Petterd's ball drop is just all sorts of wrong. He sort of tosses it in the air and hopes for the best. There's no margin for error at all.

What do our assistant coaches get paid to do if not correct this sort of thing?

Jones, with that big wind up action, simply takes too long to get the ball to his boot.

As for Bartram ... well ...

Not woeful today but unimaginative

Playing without luck or purpose

Not playing for each other enough

not willing to make the sacrificial act that enables the clean possession

lacking confidence and creativity

second tier team with obvious deficiencies

not winning one on ones enough

not desperate enough

lacking experience/leadership/poise.

able to show glimpses of talent

unable to convert opportunities

His last three kicks, 2 were touched by the man on the mark, and the finalone out on the full while trying to pass..

I know this is a Melbourne forum, but how good was Judd? Just unstoppable today. Do we need to draft a specialist tagger or do we think Jordie will be up to the task within a few years?

Okay - Judd is a prostitute of the highest order and I will never, ever, ever, appreciate how well he plays, how many Brownlows he wins, etc etc.

I know, I'm in denial and I choose to stay in my bubble.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
