"We didn't show care" - Rivers

"MELBOURNE defender Jared Rivers has admitted the Demons didn't care at times during the shattering, record-breaking loss to Geelong at Skilled Stadium on Saturday."

Talk is so cheap from this team. The price of talk from this team has dropped quicker than America's cash reserves.

I would have thought it best that the players were not seen in the media for the rest of the season. I just cringed reading River's tripe.

I'd have thought the media manager would have the same opinion. I don't think the players speaking to the media in this capacity is very beneficial anymore, because they've had to do it so often this season.

Can't believe they've had the nerve to speak today. Absolute jokers this club are. I will ne'er respect any of the over 23s for the rest of their careers after yesterday. You have to draw the line somewhere.

Bit F@#$%K'n late mow Mr. Rivers....Are you happy that you all will see our coach take the Sword because YOU didn't care????

Sums up this club.....We need a Topline coach and assistants next year....The Players will learn to care and bleed for the MFC jumper.

And i would still keep Dean Bailey in the FD next year, because i do not believe this has been his fault.

Agree absolutely with your first comment above WYL, but you cannot be serious (or practical) with your second comment!

not that i necessarily wanted to hear anything from them......but i actually thought it was ok. Talk is beyond cheap at this club but they picked the right guy and i really think Jared Rivers is genuine.

Genuine or not.....WHY did they not care??? Imagine if Hawthorn or Collingwood did the same thing.....it is just outrageous!!!!

It would have been better for Rivers to go with the 'no comment' option, because quite frankly I am sick of hearing the same old shite from our players after every poor performance. All I'm waiting for is Jones to Tweet about how many lessons they learnt from yesterday's defeat and how they can't wait to turn it around next week

They all just need to shut the hell up and perform.

The reason i say it is because i don't think this is Dean's fault....Remember he was told to lose for two years to begin with.

I don't think he will survive, but booting Dean is not fixing the problem.

Absolutely.

There is no doubt that he needs to go, but no coach can be solely blamed for a 186 point defeat. Even the worst coach with the worst match ups and tactics is not responsible for such a massive defeat. The players are 99% to blame for what happened yesterday.

And this is why NOBODY should be sacked until everybody has put their case on the Table.

Dean has worked under incredible stress and i still believe he is a bloody strong man.....This club has to be mighty careful this week. Be hard, but listen...Don't throw the axe too early.

Your own words WYL 'players will learn'. Who do they learn from? Players learn from the coach as their leader. Try googling General George S Patton Jnr on leadership of men and why they need to be taught. Responsibility rests with the man at the top - the coach in this case. (Regardless, keeping Bailey on in any form would not work with a new group - obvious psychology.)

Good call, a sacking during the year might not achieve anything. CH7 just stated the Melbourne board is still in talks and will have news at 7pm tonight.

It certainly does not fix it keeping DB. Bailey knows he is accountable and it should be the new coach that determines key football dept appointments. Its clear Bailey does not have the players behind him after that soft effort.

There should be coaching, FD and player departures over the coming 8 weeks as a consequence of yesterday and the year in general.

I know about Patton, don't worry. I also know that Dean has been coaching this club with his arms tied. And he still wants to stand up for it. I respect that.

If Mick Malthouse was coach and Dean Bailey was still in the FD, i wouldn't be unhappy....it's too easy just to sack and start again,

Why does Bailey not have the players, when they all back him when asked??? Find that out before anyone is sacked.

You are classic WYL. What would you expect players to say to the media when asked. Duh.

If we left it to you to find out Bailey would break Sheedy's coaching record.

If Mick Malthouse was coach and Dean Bailey was still in the FD, i wouldn't be unhappy....it's too easy just to sack and start again,

If MM is coach, DB will be sacked as coach. If DB floats around the FD who loses their job?? Its so easy to sack and start again isnt it. B)

The players need to do what they are paid for. Just shut up and play the game.

The captain should shut up. One disposal to half time is an embarrassment. Stripped of captaincy come seasons end.

Rivers should shut up. Was he not having a smile/laugh with Cats players after the game. Out of leadership group come season's end.

Davey, sure he wasn't apart of the game, but he has shown this year that he is not up to being a VC.

Moloney - no touches to half time. Words cannot describe how shocked i am. If he was subbed off at 1/2 time because of his doughnuts, then i must applaud the coaches for such a move (the only thing they did right all day). Moloney would be hurting more after yesterday, than when he was stripped of the VC. But his position in the leadership group must be looked at also.

No one can be overlooked from yesterday's trainwreck. I woke this morning, not like it was a bad dream, but being hit hard by reality. It hurts more today than it did yesterday and it will worsen until changes are made. That way at least we are going in a direction away from yesterday.

Every off-field position is being looked at. And too bloody right. the CEO, coaches, FD, even the board needs to come under review. Dare i say it, even our fearless leader's position must be talked about. Not saying that Jim should go. Absolutely not, he is the only positive i have about the club at the moment. But after yesterday, everyone involved at the club from the president down to the boot-studder must be held responsible.

As for the players, it is so clear that they didn't try 100% (probably less than 50%). It is simply inexcusable. Rumour of them sending a message the board of their discontent with the admin, be it subconscious or otherwise, is staggering. I will not believe it. But if it were to have happened, I consider it treason of the highest order.

The members, a record number of 37,000 must be informed of every little thing from the club. Full disclosure, as without us, this club would not exist. For too long has this club kept it's life-force in the dark. No more. No more. This club belongs to its members. Players come players go, so too coaches and CEO's and Presidents. The only constant is its members. The respect, love and adoration of the MFC held by us members will always be greater than any one other person as far as i'm concerned.

Yesterday, the players disrespected anyone and anything involved with the club. Such an abysmal display should never been forgiven or forgotten. Members will do the talking, it's time for this club to do the walking, something that hasn't happened in a very long time.

Explain the arms tied comment pls?

1. winning no more than 4 games per year in 2008-09

2. Getting games into kids...which is still occurring, means any gameday strategy is always going to be compromised.

I am not saying for a minute that Bailey is blameless, but he should not be automatically sacked for this.....the problems are deeper.

Richmond sack coaches because the fans and media demand it, and look where it has got them....

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
