Schwab in the gun

Recommended Posts

I don't get all the Schwab love here. He has a reputation for being brilliant early and then turning destructive and it sounds like he's been doing some serious meddling. My alerts went off on that loan from the club a bit back for a property investment - 1970s style management. I really doubt our guys chucked the game but the club is clearly not a happy place. I wouldn't be sad to see Schwab gone and Connoly and Bailey. A line needs to be drawn under thus period. Let's make Trengove captain and try to get a top notch administrator and coach.

Connolly keeping a low profile it would seem.

What has his contribution to the club been thus far?

There have been hints of this for months - I'd hoped the stuff about axing Schwab was not going anywhere - he has a real sense of the club's identity and history. Connolly is clearly in strife since he does not seem to have a clear role but the players whinging to the board??

What the hell?

They have no place acting up about admin - Bradly should worry about getting a kick, or two!

I have my reservations about a few people at MFC, but dealing with what I can see for myself, Bailey must go immediately. If others have to go for reasons not yet clear to me, then do 'whatever it takes'.

What exactly has Schwabby done wrong ?? Has he actually called for the various components of this club to be accountable, in the same way he would be ??.

Players calling him to task?? thats laughable if true. Because so many have benn putting in 100% and ripping it up out there. Id be sacking players first..

This does not bode well if true....Not one little bit.

Something is very very wrong at Melbourne.

I blame it all on "Whiteboard Wednesday"

He lost me then too.

I'm a bit taken aback by all the support for Schwab.

Unless you're involved with the club or are in the inner sanctum, how do you know if he's any good?

It does worry me that our operations department is bigger than our footy department, that after being so vocal and proactive, both he and Connolly have gone quiet.

Jim Stynes wouldn't have taken over as head of the footy department if something wasn't wrong. It's unheard of, and frankly pathetic, that a president has to get involved in the running of the footy department. I don't care that he's a former player with footy knowledge, it's not his job. He appointed these guys to look after the daily running of these departments and they have obviously failed him.

Does this have a lot to do with the disgusting performance yesterday? I don't know, maybe not, but in times of crisis everyone gets found out and there is nowhere to hide.

Bailey may well go, and the players may well be put on notice, but if there are bigger issues at play here, then I for one am glad they are being dealt with. Better than the usual trick of sweeping sh*t under the carpet, in the grand old tradition of this club.

Listening to 3AW, Caroline Wilson has opened up stating she believes Cameron Schwab will leave the MFC today...

Believes there is a high level of unrest by the players with Cameron Schwab and to lesser extent Chris C

Senior players spoke to the board during the week. Made a comment that yesterday's performance was in a way a protest...

If this is found to be true...Then the MFC PLAYERS had better win the remaining 5 games and then barnstorm the Finals....What has Cameron done wrong??

We the members deserve to know all before ANYONE is sacked.

I for one seem to attribute our rise off field to his arrival

is Schwabb under the pump because he demands a high standard within the club, and some just think it's too hard??

I agree, thought from the outside he was doing a terrific job!

And anyone bagging Whiteboard Wednesday is a bit harsh. You can argue maybe he shouldn't have done it, but the content was terrific, and very insightful, and I enjoyed watching them.

OK, but I think many of those things were also the result of our board working hard. Certainly it was them who drove the debt removal.

I would think that the only reason our players would be unhappy is if they looked around at other clubs and saw the spend on the footy department was vastly different. Have a look at the imbalance of staff numbers between the footy department and the operations department and tell me why we need so many people working in operations when our main aim in life is to win games of footy. We should be spending big on the footy department, and if the players are seeing a bigger investment being made in off field matters, than of course they are unhappy. That of course does not justify performing like a pack of heartless gutless wimps, but it does explain why they would be unhappy and why Stynes and Co. want to remove Schwab. They probably feel that he has been spending our money in the wrong areas.

The problem may be that we weren't the only ones watching it.

I find this hard to believe, having met Cameron and seen the way he interacts with supporters and the players, clearly loves the club, and I thought he was doing a great job. Seems like some sort of lame scapegoat to me.

I'll be really interested to hear what the reasons are if he does get the chop.

And will he pay THAT loan back!?

Yes i did wonder whether having all those chats on Youtube was a good idea??

Sending them to Member emails could have been the better move.

Not doing them in the first place would have been the best move. I said it at the time and I stand by it. Whiteboard Wednesday discussing the financial position of the club was reasonable, but when it came to discussing footballing matters it became a joke.

Why did you think it a joke? i thought it was a great initiative, but i would have only sent it to paid up members

And once the information is in the lap of paid up members; you lose complete control over it.

EDIT: members get it, it makes its way onto a discussion board which we know are monitored by people outside the club including the media ... etc

It was all pretty high level stuff though, and dealt with overall strategy, and wasn't person or role specific from what I saw.

It was a good tool to give members a greater insight into the workings of the club, and as an original way of engaging members, I liked it!

Yes you are right, but we had to make people interested in the MFC....to make the club relelvant...sometimes you gotta give something to get things back.

But Youtube did go too far.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
