Bailey has said he 'takes the blame' for yesterday's debacle but won't stand down.

Should the club force him to tomorrow and put Todd in there to coach the boys for the remaining five games?

My feeling is that this marriage is officially over and Dean needs to go.

    Not a Bailey fan, think he will be gone soon enough. But it won't fix everything. Will Green show heart under a new coach? Will we still give up when it gets to hard? Will players still miss 20m targets by 10 metres like nicholson in the first?

    Pure logic suggests that DeanBailey MUST go NOW. All season the team has shown a COMPLETE inablility to resist any kind of competitive pressure from the opposition, and this kind of result was just waiting to happen. Sadly, Dean Bailey has had 19 games to address this lack of defensive ability and competitive resistance, with what can only be seen as worsening effect. In the press conference he offered nothing new. Why would we imagine he could invest the players with that ability now. This season can only be seen as destructive to the MFC, and it is due to the onfield performance. He is the organiser of that on-field performance, and must be accountable.

    He simply must finish his tenure as coach. NOW. Anything less just defies reason.

    This is not personal, it is merely sensible.

    Not only should Bailey go tomorrow, Green should be stripped of the captaincy and sent to Casey as a statement.

    I don't want Todd to be caretaker coach. Of all our current coaching panel, Todd is the one I'd most like to see retained by the club for 2012. A new coach in 2012 would be unlikely to retain the caretaker, correct me of I'm wrong but I can't remember it happening.

    If Bailey does go this week it's probably better to give it to Cuddles or Royal, someone you can afford to lose. I don't think Mahoney, West or Williams are ready to even be caretakers.

    Tend to agree, but anyone will do. It is not a coaches responsibility anymore. Only the players can repair the damage. Its up to them to restore pride back into the club for the remainder of the season.

    Before he goes he needs to apologise to the supporters for what has happened to our team under his coaching strategy.

    He's not dreaming about making the finals but he is about doing so under Bailey.

    We can salvage something out of the season with a new coach and the reinvigoration that a change can bring.

    However, I would not guarantee Viney the coaching gig beyond 2011 at this point in time. There needs to be an extensive process by which the next coach is to be selected.

    There's also the situation of Viney potentially coaching his son. I'm not sure if that's healthy.

    We did this the last time, and got Bailey, for gods sake. Word was that Hardwick missed out because his presentation went poorly. FFS.

    Let the board set the following criteria:

    a) have been an A grader with a long playing history at AFL level

    b.) have been a hard, uncompromising player

    c) have premiership experience (as coach or player)

    Then see who's available. Interview them if they want, but get over the presentations. (Brings back memories of our PowerPoint presentation to Warnock.)

    Ron Barassi lived in a bungalow in the backyard of Norm's house. If anything, he was more like a foster son. Norm Smith played with Ron Snr.

    A suggestion on SEN was to appoint Dean Laidley and have Mick Malthouse join him in 12 months time.

    There is something seriously wrong at the MFC, action must be taken. The whole club from the top down must be held to account and put on notice! I was a huge fan of keeping Bailey, but it's really hard for even me, to see how he can come back from this....Bye Bailey, Thanks for the high draft picks...

    I'm glad I was at Geelong yesterday. To see a half of the Casey debacle and then see the main event debacle in person was an experience that will remain etched in my memory for the rest of my life (which will be shorter than my life so far!). Take no credit away from Geelong - they were awesome for the whole game and did not let up when other teams would have relaxed.

    That said, Viney must replace Bailey immediately, but only for the rest of the year - we must go outside MFC for 2012 and beyond. Viney can return to his current role in 2012, and MFC will have a new coach. It doesn't have to be an experienced coach, in fact there are good arguments for a current well-credentialled assistant - given Geelong's recent few years, Brenton Sanderson would appear to have a lot to offer, for example. He would certainly know what he was taking on after yesterday!

    The bottom line is yesterday was unforgiveable, should never have happened, and MFC should never allow it to happen again - this should be ingrained in the future culture of all aspects of MFC. The Bailey era should be consigned to history and only ever looked at again as an example of what NOT to do!

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

      Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form.       The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

      The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace.They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
