A couple of things I have learnt from the bye weekend

Bang Bang Bang

Recommended Posts

1. Perhaps our loss to the Doggies wasn't as bad as first thought. A 64 point defeat doesn't look good no matter how you look at it, but they just upstaged the (overrated?) Blues and looking more like the 2010 Western Bulldogs.

2. If we don't beat Port then Bailey deserves to be sacked on the spot. They are almost Fitzroy-esque at the moment!!!

1)

When a team talks themselves up, they are destined to get flogged. (Directed to North Melbourne).

Oh how sweet it was watching them get destroyed, cannot stand that club.

Brad Scott in his presser said that Dane Swan only performed marginally better than Daniel Wells and that Pendelebury only performed marginally better than Ziebell, - talk about delusional.

Collingwood are very very good, their ability to run and run is most impressive.

2)

Carlton are the great pretenders (so far), they have only beat one side in the eight this year, that is the Swans twice.

Bulldogs are not as bad as what people thought, still have an elite/solid midfield.

3)

West Coast have a very impressive press and a very intelligent coach, tanked last year and are now killing it. Worsfold is one of the best coaches in the comp IMO.

4)

When Melbourne is not playing, I have little to look forward to on the weekend, from a football perspective.

5)

If we lose to Port at all this year (injuries permitting- but even then?) we should bring in all our players currently playing at Casey and see if they can do a better job of playing AFL. (lol, just joking- we are not going to lose to Port- Surely? Right?)

Wells was very good, albeit compared to the other 21 blokes in his team.

The bye makes for a dull weekend of footy, and it also makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, that teams seem to struggle the week afterwards.

The doggies, to their credit, did play well against us. But losing to Port would be completely unacceptable...

sooooo games after a bye - 21 played 12 losses 5 won others between clubs with a bye.

week after the week after the bye - 11 losses, 8 wins.

obviously this is skewed by who has the bye, who plays who after the bye (cant expect suns to win anything, etc)

im sure you could look deeper into the performances, but i cant be stuffed.

ok this proves nothing

I'm left feeling slightly better about our losses to Collingwood, West Coast and the Dogs, and slightly worse about our loss to North.

If you remember, our youngsters were low on confidence at that time and our Leaders were Hiding. Just bloody terrible leadership until the supporters got on the players cases.

Tapscott was hurt early in that game & Davey got a sore knee in the 3rd Qtr I think.

Sadly for me

Collingwood are so far in front of the other sides its not funny ... the gap is getting wider.

Hangon007 I am praying for injuries. I think that is the only hope.

I agree it is not the kids that are our problem it is the more experienced players.

As for Davey he has had a poor year and was giving us little before the injury.

I seriously think it is time to trade him.

It is now or never

You can be absolutely sure that none of your players get fixed up by the match review panel on the Monday after the bye.

Agree and you can also be sure you won't be depressed after a 60 point flogging in a game you though we could win.

I know i shouldn't, but i actually want Collingwood to win the Flag this year, (or lose it by a point).

So that their coaching situatiion bites them hard over the next 3-5 years....I want Buckles to be under immense pressure!! There is method in my madness i assure you!!!!

If Eddie F@#$%^ks this coaching thing up with Buckley and Malthouse, it will be well worth it...who knows Mick may end up a demon??

We are not in the race this year, so i do not give a S.... who wins the cup...The Filth, Carlscum, Hawthorn or Geeloong?? Hate the lot of them TBH.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
