Biffen deserves a jolly good thrashing. I'm sure he'll be a reformed man after a few doses of the good Doctor Hopping Dick's electrodes.

Well things are a bit quiet here.

I must say I'm a tad disappointed with the less than totally enthusiastic response to my return to Demonland. I thought Ernie, for example, would have been overcome with joy at my return. But nary a word. I know he's dead and all but that doesn't excuse rudeness.

And what's happened to my old mate Stu?

Oh and a bit of news. Biffen emailed me from the colonies. (BTW he's currently hunting those dangerous water buffaloes with an anti aircraft gun)

He's begged me to tidy up some of his sordid business affairs. A nasty matter indeed but he's only offering a pittance for my services and want's to pay me in Dong.

What a thankless world it is.

Perhaps you could send a dozen to The Manor OD and I'll give you the benefit of my destroyed palate.

Welcome back Bitters, however, you are rapidly becoming our Dame Nellie Melba of this thread. Like an old burlesque or vaudeville performer that is addicted to the applause and wants to hear it again. However, you do add a little something to this thread and most of us do find you well......amusing.

Lovable is a bit of a stretch.

Perhaps the act is getting a little tired and needs freshening up?  Floggings are a little passe these days.

Perhaps a few new tricks to maintain the interest?

Have a nice day inside the darkened hallways of the Manor. However, beware of your eyesight.

Remember that if you open the door the light gets in !

How very generous of you in your praise Ernie.

Sorry to be so reticent in my response.

From my humble position my access to demonland is restricted to late night binges followed by periods of self enforced abstinence. Often the effects of this thread alone are enough to induce bouts of uncontrollable delight similar to drug induced states.

I am also finding that the expanding commentary on success now entering Demonland almost compulsory and certainly comprehensive.

However this thread is certainly my mandatory reading and I am pleased to see again your alternative truth wisdom on display. Trump may claim some ownership of this method however I think the evidence is historically available here that demonland contributors have invented and mastered this technique.

Perhaps yourself, Biffen an other notables should mount a campaign to the good old USA to receive appropriate recognition of you efforts.

Look forward to conference detail

May I mention how lucky you are to have me back.

I have been to a re-education program , in a dark room,isolated from society.

The experience was both humbling and meditative, providing me with the opportunity to review the mistakes of others and reflect on them in an attempt to find forgiveness.

"twas a dismal failure but but I managed to catch enough rats and bugs to sustain life.My usual opulent lifestyle requires periods of abstinence occasionally anyway.

Sadly,I've noticed Bitters is back and has been his usual ungenerous self especially to poor old Special Robert. There will always be a broom cupboard for you at the Gat if you behave yourself SR.

As some token gesture towards rehabilitation ,I have generously signed over the Romsey Manor to an Orphange in S/E Asia.BBO doesn't know it yet but I tucked the title away after my last luncheon there.

It's in a better place.

If it was in a better place it wouldn't be in Romsey. Couldn't be located in a worse place really.

Moon we all know you're an inner city trendy with chardonnay socialist views, crowding out the working classes with your over-priced ,over-renovated terrace house and 3 investment properties crammed full of unused "How to vote Green" cards and flyers but that doesn't give you the automatic right to pour scorn all over the simple country man with his rustic habits and poor hygiene.

Although the estate has that "lived in, genteel poverty" type feel, it will be a good place for the orphanage, after the cellar is filled in and a liberal dose of anti-septic is applied.

I realise most of the Calder highway has towns that should be bulldozed in any sane world but Romseyites  view themselves as like the poor cousins Macedon and Gisborne never wanted.

Not only that, it keeps the unwashed a safe distance from the CBD so you can enjoy your soy chai lattes without deserved ridicule.

How very dare you! Deconstructed decaf latte is my choice Biffen.

I am not a chardonnay sipper either. One thing I share with Uncle Bitter is enjoyment of a good shiraz. Unfortunately, its usually it's a case of him quaffing mine...

I have just arrived at the home of the big banana, Coffs Harbour, a cultural wasteland if I'm any judge. Melbourne supporters would be thin on the ground in these here parts. The average IQ has jumped since my arrival. I must say in it's favour that it's a thrill to know that the bananas in the supermarket have only travelled 3 kilometres to get there. Also the banana trees appear very lush and healthy indeed.

Too late. You're swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool there

Is this the longest stretch without a post in the history of this thread? I am in the land of the long white cloud so I have an excuse for my absence.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
