How do you know this?

Because he stood in front of the media at the start of the year and told us he hasn't, and he isn't a liar.

Because if he had made a deal with GWS the club would know about it and he wouldn't be getting a game.

And because I know.

He may well still choose to go to GWS, but he hasn't signed, dealt with, or even looked at a contract. And as frustrating as it is, he won't do so until the end of the season.

FYI - I don't know whether Scully's signed with GWS or not. I sincerely hope he hasn't.

Here in Canberra we get a bit of the orange and black brigade talking themselves up.

I don't think there is any reason why Sheedy and co. would not leave the rumours open.

It creates news, a perception they are getting good players (influencing other prospective recruits), and possibly helps pry Tom away through the intense scrutiny.

I wouldn't worry about the fork tongues of GWS.

I'm going to hazard a guess that Scully is not going to be too pleased to hear that GWS are telling anyone who will listen (which granted is roughly 3 people), that he is theirs. That brands him as a liar, a cheat and a scumbag for having already signed a deal with them.

Yes, quite.

Another reason why I don't think they have him at all.

Why would you ruin the life (if for 8 months) of a 19 year old you are trying to sign by having this constant rumour flame-fanning?

And I'm sure his family love the way the flame-fanning has meant Tom is being likened to a traitor (as the Hun did) and money grubber who is disrespecting the MFC (as some on here believe).

Tom is hardly that, he is a good kid and he will re-sign with the Dees.

This is a Tom Scully thread. I'm simply reporting what I heard last night. Neither Sheedy nor the CEO told me this. One of the foundation members did.

Then why did you start your original post by saying: "I attended the GWS 'Captain's Club' function at the Swans v Pies game last night. Spoke to Sheedy, Dipper and the GWS CEO.", and yet you made no mention of the opinion being passed on to you by a Foundation member. You original post reeks of shenanigans and your second post compounds that by contradicting the first.

This is a Tom Scully thread. I'm simply reporting what I heard last night. Neither Sheedy nor the CEO told me this. One of the foundation members did. I told him I thought it was all crap - he then responded by saying, "matter for you. We reckon it's pretty well a done deal". Everyone else seemed to think it's a done deal too. Needless to say, it didn't exactly make for a good night.

So Jack7, it's possible you're a modern day Socrates, but my instinct tells me you're probably not. Cop a tip, hand on it or not - don't be surprised with posters putting 'Tom Scully' related reports on a 'Tom Scully' thread. That's kind of what this forum is for ... but heh, perhaps I'm assuming a basic level of intelligence from everyone in the Demonland community, arguably an assumption that I may now need to revisit.

Ron what do you expect a foundation member to say????

I spoke to Tom early this week and we had a good chat about his contract, what he thinks of the club, the coach etc etc he confirmed that he hasn't even had an offer from GWS and hasn't spoken to them. He is expecting an offer because of the rumours but know its just football as usual. Which goes against the rumour the information above.

He actually asked me if supporters were upset at him for waiting but thats what some footy people had told him. In his own words '18 months ago I was hoping to play an AFL game now there is a real possibility that I could have to make the biggest decision of my life' (don't try to read something into a ten word sentence out of an hour conversation) If an offer comes at the rumoured values his decision will change the course of his career whichever way it goes.

I was nearly a foundation member of GWS...

Thanks for that Wolfmother. I don't know who you are or how you came to speak to Tom so candidly and at such length, but it is enough to make me look at this thread no longer. I have always believed what he said in his presser, but still found it hard to be completely comfortable about the situation. So I'll now state that I take Tom at his word, and I believe he will stay a player for MFC. If (and I by no means am saying you are) you are making this up, well done cause it's an elaborate lie. I personally like the bit about him asking if supporters are upset at him. No Tom, I'm not. Do your biz in a way that makes you feel comfortable. I don't understand why you are waiting, but if it's what you need to do, then so be it mate.

I absolutely don't doubt that you are reporting what you heard, but I absolutely 110% know that Scully has not sealed any sort of deal with GWS.

The rest of the [censored] you were told, is therefore irrelevant.

P.S.- good to see GWS have at least one member. It'll be lonely for them on the bottom

Can anyone tell me whether Kevin Sheedy has a track record of game-playing and trickery?

And I liked that bit about at least one member.

The AFL will probably give all the members free interstate flights , accomodation and alcohol to attend GWS games for the next 3 years.

( I heard that from a source )

I don't want to get into an internet slanging match with some nerd over the computer here. In short, I don't want Scully to leave the club. I'm simply reporting what I heard - and, to my mind, it seemed to have some substance to it. Then again, perhaps you're right and it is all absolutely b.s. I don't know and I suspect you don't know either.

However, you can believe whatever you want. You can also simply ignore the post and, perhaps even, resist the temptation to write wholly juvenile responses.

You mean in the same way you ignored the whole premise of my response? That is, your contradictory statements. (I'll admit my closing line was somewhat juvenile, but I couldn't resist the play on words given the film RB was from... plus, being juvenile at age 59 is, I think, a good effort).

I attended the GWS 'Captain's Club' function at the Swans v Pies game last night. Spoke to Sheedy, Dipper and the GWS CEO.

Essentially, it seems they think they have Scully. He has not 'signed' anything, but he 'committed' to GWS last October.

Neither Sheedy nor the CEO told me this. One of the foundation members did.

First post you said that you spoke to Sheedy, Dipper and the GWS CEO and they think they have Scully. Second post you say that you did not speak to them about it, but some random fan told you.

You should be banned for making up rumours.

He wrote the first post making out that he had info from Sheedy, Dipper and the CEO, then did a backflip when questioned. He was clearly writing lies about Scully's future.

He's no troll.

But he is sensitive ...

He didn't mean to mislead but he certainly should have realised that they may he wrote it - he was intimating a stronger source than what it eventually was.

Being a bit harsh, hardly got his information from the three wise men. Sheedy is a senile old git, Dipper, dont let anyone tell you that labotomies are banned in Australia and a CEO that was so impressive that Ron failed to even get his name.

Geez this new AFL Franchise is a freakin circus, if they had any idea they would have forked out a heap of dough securing the best young football admin talent in oz yet they have thrown all their money at snake oil salesman, obviously a reflection on how fatally flawed the whole concept is. How they expect to attract champion footballers is beyond me.

This is a point i largely havnt thought about thus far, who the frik would want to go and be coached by Sheedy during their first season at GWS lol waste 2 years of your life much...

I doubt Sheeds knows what a press is.....

In Sheed's world, they are the bottom feeders who thrive on his rumours to sell their publications.

I can't believe I'm getting to sucked into this, but, given that my initial post was rather clumsy, I feel obliged to set the record straight.

GWS is making an effort to develop its corporate membership base at the moment. It is my understanding that they are really struggling and they have very little corporate support. Rightly or wrongly, I am seen to be someone that may be interested in such a membership, essentially because I live in Sydney and work at a large company, enjoy AFL but do not support the Swans. My heart beats true though.

I have a couple of mates whose firms have signed up for corporate memberships. Neither of them support GWS - it's all for marketing opportunities. They are well educated professionals and I would trust their word more than many of the posters on this site. It also helps that I know them.

Both of them said to me on the night that the CEO (who was sitting about 10 metres away - I think he's a former North player, Dale Holmes) told them earlier that night and also at another function a couple of weeks ago that GWS had some type of 'commitment' from Scully or Scully's management (I didn't interrogate this distinction), but that Scully had not actually 'signed' anything. That said, they said GWS was confident that he would in due course. Make of this what you will, but it didn't seem like a completely fabricated story. It also seems that, despite what has been said publicly, there have been some communications between or on behalf of the parties. It actually beggars belief to think otherwise.

I told them both that I thought this rumour was all b.s and that Eddie Maguire had manufactured the whole thing. They then said, the CEO's over there - do you want to hear it from his mouth? I declined, essentially because I had the sh1ts and had no reason to doubt that the CEO had said this to them (irrespective of whether there was/is any truth to the rumour). That being the case, I didn't see the upside in having a drunken (potentially hostile) conversation with a bloke whose club had generously invited me to its function.

Later that night, Dipper signed a hat for a mate of mine. I did not speak to him about anything related to AFL, Tom Scully, GWS or the MFC. He struck me as a top bloke.

I didn't speak to Sheedy at all. In short, I didn't want to.

I trust this now clarifies the situation.

Wolf, thanks for sharing.

How does he feel about the club? Does he love it or is it just a business? I don't mind if you don't want to share but it would e interesting to hear, he's close to him and it appears that he has many friends here, both from his old u18 days and from other draftess.

I believe the kid, and as much as I'd love for him so sign today I understand why his management has given him the advice to wait.

I don't understand why you've been given so much crap for reporting what you heard, although I think your first post was quite misleading.

Either way, I think everyone at GWS have vested interest in getting Scully and lying about securing his services. As far as sources are concerned, they're up there with Scully's dog walker.
