Absolutely he is. He is a MAN of Principles! He is putting the kids, the rebuild and the game of footy, ahead of his own ambitions. He is the right Man to have @ the controls.

I am amazed that supporters who are calling for his head cant see this, hope it doesn't go unnoticed by the board.

I just wish Bailey would play the kids.

I'm sure they would if the supporters stayed happy with that direction, but we have to grow off field as well. Not to mention that 'winning' is a learned thing. These boys are winners but losing can be learned as well. The whole world is built araound harmony and balance. When that goes, trouble, moves in.

He has no choice either.

Indeed.

There are two things here. First, the idea that DB is making a selfless choice suggests he has alternative options that would have a significant impact on our performance. I'm not sure he does. If DB was leaving out players that could have a significant impact on our chance of winning, then sure - I might buy this idea. However, names like Bennell and Morton have been mentioned, and they haven't exactly been ripping it up.

Second, if we want to talk about DB's self-interet I think it would be counter-productive for DB to deviate from the 'kids' game plan. DB's chances of getting recontracted go into a death spiral if he deviates from the line he's consistently held. DB doesn't have the option, but if he had subpar senior players that will never be around when we're any good and chose them over youngsters we need to develop because they're better able to compete now I suggest that would not help his chances of getting recontracted, because it would undermine everything he's said over his journey as senior Coach.

Howes had a couple of BOG or Best for Melbourne ( Casey ) performances this year already. I would have thought he was well up front for a gig. We could certainly use a live wire up the sharp end.

Congrats Nicholson..

Nicholsaon has from reports been at least as good and on needs gets the gig.

Good luck Dan.

Congrats to the new Nicho.

Bit of a worry for Blease and Strauss that Evans and Nicholson appear to have gone past them in the pecking order.

Not progressing as we would've hoped those two.

I think Blease just had his best run of consecutive games and that was three matches in a row. If he can get his body right I think he won't have too many worries in the short-term.

I dont care if our elevated rookies are better than our top picks aslong as they are good quality. Glad to see people are getting elevated from casey on form not name or reputation.

Heard a stat the other day that there are more ex rookie listed players on current lists than player taken over pick 40 in the draft. Blease and strauss were taken much earlier than 40 though!

Being that there is no tweet regarding Howe debuting I would say he is not playing.

Not necessarily the case... Nicholson had to be promoted from the rookie list and so it was perhaps considered a "special case".

All 3 have really started this year. A month ago Blease wasn't close, But he's really come on in the last 3 games, but he's more 'Outside'.

Our weaknesses, thats causing losses, hasn't been the lack of the likes of bennell. It's been the lack on contested ball winners. Evans and Nicholson have it hands down on Bennell or Davey or Blease, in that regard.

Very much agree with your thoughts there.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.
