Unfortunately, it seems as though we've been dealt a cruel blow with season ending injuries to Grimes (foot) and Spencer (ACL). Simply terrible news.

Yet, there is something to gain from this - a couple of chances for our rookies who have been performing well at Casey.

My guess would be Evans and Nicholson, however with Scully/Jordie coming back in there may be limited spots in the side for them. Perhaps left field with Spencer out we could see Robbie Campbell being thrown into it. He can't be that far off being back from injury.

Footy can be a tough challenge, but at the same time it can provide opportunity.

Jack Fitzpatrick has syndesmosis.

Syndesmosis: a slightly movable articulation where the contiguous bony surfaces are united by an interosseous ligament, as in the inferior tibiofibular articulation.

But I expect you all know that.

Based on their form, most definitely Evans and Nicholson.

Can't see any other rookie getting a game right now, unless of course Campbell has decided to stop dying somewhere in obscurity.

as it has done previously, the club won't promote any rookie until they are being selected in the side...

nicholson and evans seem to be the two leading the charge... but with Spencer going down, the club will surely want to leave one of these spots for robbie campbell... if jamar gets injured, even for only a week or two, we'd be relying on Max Gawn to carry the ruck with Stef...

so don't expect any movement on this soon, although from the sounds of things Nicholson may not be far away from a call up...

thats what I thought, so why was Newton elevated, or is that just a different set of rules?

Well summed up. Nicholson, will be the one should he maintain his form at Casey.

If there is a position for him.

We already have Newton available (who could be called on should we lose another tall) so I think next cab off the rank could be a utility/mid fielder.

Evans form has him leading the pack, with Dan Nicholson next in line.

Robbie Campbell could also be very handy if he is fit and ready to go.

Evans and Campbell, or Evans and Nicholson?

Yea he is in there because of our one space on the veterans list (I'm pretty sure).

Evans is obviously the first one. At the intra club match i kept saying to my friend who is this number 50, and he has only improved since. I think he is the type of player who while mckenzie and scully are out should get a go. He is hard at the ball as well as a good user. This is something you couldn't say about for morton, blease, bennell, Jetta at the moment. Also leave the other open for Campbell in case of the big russian going down

It's like for like here so I'll commit the ultimate blasphemy

Newton will be promoted for Spencer. You all know it's going to happen your just in denial.

Evans for Grimes. From what i've heard and seen has been in good form

Juice is already on senior list. Other one makes sense

MFC website still has Newton listed as a rookie?

Yeah, but it's some rule where you're able to elevate him I believe. That's why they could name him last week even though noone was on the long-term injury list. I'm guessing MFC website hasn't been updated, they don't have Tapscott as having played either

yes I understand he was elevated because we are one short on veterans list

...but why did they elevate him at start of season rather than when required? Is it because the rules state that veteran-short elevations must be nominated at start of season? If so this seems a silly rule.

Correct. Must be nominated at the start of the season.

Newton was elevated at the start of the season. I think it is something to do with the veteran's list. We had a spare spot for a veteran and were able to promote a rookie instead? Something along those lines.

So that gives us two more rookie promotions. I had forgotten about Campbell. He'd certainly be a good call to bring in. Evans and Nicholson is a difficult one. I know that Evans is very highly rated, but Nicholson has had some really good form at Casey. I would guess that they will hold off until there is a spot for one of them and then go with the one in better form.

I prefer Nicholson to Evans. A raking left foot, very skilled, quick and hard at it. Also in his early 20s so is a mature bodied player. As Denis Commetti said in commentary at the weekend, what a difference it makes when the Demons choose "tough nuts". As he said interestingly... "up until today it is almost as tough they were being selected out of the team. Today they are back, instead of leaving it all to Jones and Maloney, and what a difference it makes".

In the hardness stakes, I'd choose Nicholson every time. He also happens to also be extremely skillful as well.

On the subject of Campbell, I would love to think he is almost fit and ready to go, but somehow I doubt it. He has recently come back last year from almost a terminal knee injury, and early in the pre-season broke down again. I'd be staggered if he was anywhere near ready to step up to the ones. If Jamar goes down, I would throw in Gawn with Stef, but either way the loss of Jamar would be disastrous. It does not bear thinking about....
