Well..much is being discussed all over the place . I just thought we might like to get some graphical representation of what the overall opinion looks like.

You arent locked into a singular position. You , hopefully have enough choices to qualify your views. Ive tried to be open minded with the selection of answers and apologise if this hasnt occured.

As I see it there are two distinct areas for review.

1) How are we as a club going & 2) How is Bailey going

Hence the two , if related fields of enquiry.

Good luck.... try to keep it real. Answer honestly

Yes we are on the right track, absolutely.

A few Observations...a lthough nothing new I thought I'd list my thoughts.

1. Tanking doesn't necessarily pay off. is Dustin martin the best of the lot?

2. The Darling decision was a bad one

3. Grimes and Gysberts were great pieces of recruiting.

4. We really need Blease to make it.

5. Strauss and Maric appear our worst picks....albeit at the moment....they are both young

6. Bailey has done everything expected of him.

7. The board is undoubtedly looking to replace him and our assistants at years end. Malthouse would be magnificent. Personally I can't see a position under Buckley that would excite him. Time to get the cheque book out.

8. Grimes needs to move into the midfield.

9. Davey needs to work a hell of a lot harder. Look at Daisy Thomas, similar size, similar role, similar skill set, very different output.

10. We need at least one of Watts, Scully, or Trengove to become elite.

Put this thread up again in 4-6 weeks BB

I think I understand your sentiment. However I still think the questions are legitimate. They could rightly be asked at any time. It concerns teh now...this now. You could again ask in 6-8 at that 'now' and quite reasonably youd get a different picture...if indeed things are different.

At the end of last season I had an impression and I had optimism. After the pre season this became a little rigid and right now Im concerned.

thats my take

im simply alloowing others to paint theirs

We are on the right track, but there is still a very distinctive lingering of a lack of heart and passion for the jumper. That has been present for a while, and I don't think 2 wooden spoons in a row did much to turn the tide.

1. Tanking doesn't necessarily pay off. is Dustin martin the best of the lot? Tanking or no tanking. It was between Scully and Trengove. Martin was always considered a close third. But its too early to tell who go the better pick as all 3 could be elite.

2. The Darling decision was a bad one. Too early to tell as Cook could well be a star. Measure your talls in 3 to 5 years. Darling has been good to date in a team that has their A graders fit and firing this year.

3. Grimes and Gysberts were great pieces of recruiting. THe decision to trade Brock and Trav were gold and the picks used well.

4. We really need Blease to make it. It would be good.

5. Strauss and Maric appear our worst picks....albeit at the moment....they are both young. Strauss is injured again. Maric is a tweener.

6. Bailey has done everything expected of him. Up to date probably right

7. The board is undoubtedly looking to replace him and our assistants at years end. Malthouse would be magnificent. Personally I can't see a position under Buckley that would excite him. Time to get the cheque book out. Interesting outcomes ahead.

8. Grimes needs to move into the midfield. Will happen in time

9. Davey needs to work a hell of a lot harder. Look at Daisy Thomas, similar size, similar role, similar skill set, very different output. Davey has been a terrible disappointment this year as have a number of senior players.

10. We need at least one of Watts, Scully, or Trengove to become elite. No we need at least 3 of them to become elite and stay at MFC.

No no i am happy that you put it up now, but put it up again in 6-8 weeks so we can see the comparison.

i checked - From promising beginnings our momentum is slipping, Some questions are appearing about the quality of some catle & Too early to call, staying on fence.

I'd like us to be showing more than we are at this stage however i didnt expect us to make the 8 this year, but i did expect us to beat teasm like west coast. I also didnt expect west coast to be good this year, which they are.

I have a concerns about our development of certain players. Other clubs seem to be able to get the most out of their players earlier than us? Is this becasue our coaches give too many concessions to young players? Seems to me that unless the players have the drive and motivation of bloeks like T.Scully then they're underachieving to a point (im thinking, morton, watts, strauss, maric etc etc)

That sums up my thoughts. What worried me was how many senior players went missing the other night. That is my issue with Bailey. If he can't get them to fire then the kids are not going to be developed and we won't ever use the talent we have in the way we hoped.

Losses are one thing but when the team leaders are leaving it to teenagers to do the job we have a major problem.

Agree with all your points Roost but re point no.10, I feel we'll need two of those three to become elite in order to challenge. Watts is the wildcard.

As I understand it the recruiting fraternity had Scully, Trengove and then clear daylight to Martin? Got me puzzled as to why ...

Scully was and is a gun

Trengove, although good at the carnival, stormed into calculations almost single handedly getting Centrals (correct me if i'm wrong on that i can't quite remember the side and couldn't be assed finding it!) into the SANFL grand final - massive game in the prelim final, on that alone he would have gone 1 or 2

Martin best of the rest but with a wildcard - along with Darling had question marks over him as a loose cannon - may well be proved right in the long run, but was always going to be a gun as well.

Have absolutely done the right thing with gaining TS and JT

I agree with you on Davey working harder - but if you want to be surprised look up Thomas's statistics - not a similar size at all

I had the 3 level pegging, and still do.

The only question on Martin was how good his discipline will be. And still is. Time will tell, but Martin's aggression and power would always be a weapon.

Not really the case I believe.

Similar to how Port offered us picks 8 and 9 for pick two - I seem to recall Sydney offering Richmond picks 6 and 14 for pick 3.

Martin is a gun, he was always going to be one. However, people saying that we made a blue with either of our picks have rocks in their head.

Scully was and is a gun

Not sitting on the sidelines he isn't.He is going to miss arguably his most important year in AFL.That alone is a worry.

Is he running/training at all?

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
