Watched the replay again of the incident. Have the following points to make.

1. None of the replays showed Davey making contact with McGynn's head (probably because he didn't)

2. Play continues after the impact.

3. McBurnie calls the play back after he notices McGlynn on the ground.

4. As soon as the free is given, McGlynn bounces up like nothing is wrong.

Important questions.

1. Did McBurnie actually see the impact?

2. If so why did he let play continue?

3. If the footage is proven to show no contact, will McGlynn go for diving?

4. Will McBurnie get a senior game next week?

Just want to know if I'm only looking with one eye??

    Nothing in it. If Davey gets rubbed out then I think Mummy gets a month of for striking. MacDonald might get a week, otherwise there are no games missed by players of either side from the round 1 match.

    Umpiring was ordinary, and I think you will hear that from everyone who watched the game. Was bad both ways more than being one sided.

    Davey hit his shoulder. But then the result of that is McGlynn's head moving the wrong way and he slightly bumps his head into a teammate. nothing in it at all.

    It seemed at the time that McBurney only laid the report when he saw McGlynn lying on the ground. There was no contact to his head, so I can't imagine Davey being in any sort of trouble.

    McBurnie was a disgrace all day and will be in the dewkickers next week.

    Shocking report. The swan fan jumping up in joy about it was obviously waiting 6 mths to see players rubbed out - the joy!

    Average umpiring all round yesterday, other games I saw were much better.

    He got him on the ribcage, under the armpit. The player milked a free.

    All 3 of them were guessing, and inconsistent all day. Not to mention their friend the boundry umpire needs to spend some more time at the gym.

    I was looking for a boundary umpire with a fluoro green vest to sub in.

    Unfortunately the Umpires seem to be over exerting themselves, looking for head high hits. Their looking Too Hard.

    I was at the game and also noticed that play continued until McBurney noticed the player lying on the gound, THEN decided to stop play and give the free kick and the report. Very poor effort, but McBurney has proved time and again that he is an ordinary umpire who loves to stamp himself on a game!!

    Absolutely not Demon Tragic. The only reason McBurney reported Davey, let alone a free kick, was because McGlynn decided to have a sook. The case will be thrown out straight away and will hopefully show what a clueless fool McBurney is. Sylvia got polaxed in the centre of the ground later on and the only reason the sydney player wasn't reorted was because Col didn't have a sook.

    As for pathetic umpiring, how about when Stef got a massive shove in the back on the Southern wing and wasn't awarded a free kick. The bloody ump was shaking his head, even before the contact was made. Talk about amateur hour, the umpiring for both sides was extremely pathetic. And they no longer seem to be paying incorrect disposal, only when it is blatant. This is a massive step backwards, as it is no longer rewarding the tackler.

    I love when the umpires try to explain their decisions, like Shaw's "handpass" to White for the 50m goal, it was a blatant throw yet he tried to say it was a handpass.

    Aso the holding the ball against Maric in the first quarter, he had no chance but he needed "to make an attempt" which means to throw your fist around pretending to hit it out.

    I'm not an umpire basher but that is thing that gets up my nose the most - guessing.

    Umpires - if you are not sure - don't blow your freakin whistle.

    It was very, very obvious that the umpire didn't blow his whistle until he noticed the Sydney player on the ground. He obviously saw the contact initially, but didn't think anything of it until the Sydney player appeared hurt. Poor decision by the umpire. Everyone around me was livid.

    And after guessing something happened he then reported him!! That makes real sense!

    If anything Mumford's crude bump on Sylvia was way worse, but as the commentators said, the AFL is all over protecting the head, and they thought Davey made head high contact and Mumford did not.

    It was a great bump. And payback by Davey too, for what McGlynn did to Davey in May 2009 when he was a hawk.

    Davey mentioned that match last year on the Mangrook footy show. Aaron has a long memory.

    If you want amateur hour, take a look at the Adelaide/Hawthorn game when Richard Tambling had a 50 given against him for playing on from a Hawks free kick, when in fact the had umpire pointed the wrong way. What annoyed me about it was that having the umpire point in the wrong direction seems to happen all the freaking time. Surely pointing in the right direction for a free is umpiring 101.

    McBurney is a downright horrible umpire. Seriously, his ineptitude is mind boggling. Thank god sanity prevailed, unlike when Moloney got rubbed out for almost making contact to the head all those years ago (yes, I have a long memory when it comes to the AFL screwing us over! :lol:)

    What was even worse was the players were telling him that's what he did and all he said was "No I didn't" repeatedly in a silly little grade 2 voice.

    It was replayed and shown what he did and I rewound it on the IQ2 and watched it about half a dozen times as well. That's what we are ALL up against

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

      Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form.       The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

      The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace.They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
