LUKE TAPSCOTT

Good debut by Tapscott - won his share of contested football, that was a great hit on Shaw but it was really great play by Shaw too - got the ball forward to a team-mate and really put them in an attcking psoition.

Awfully quiet from the Roost It??

I heard a pin drop...

Yes i did think of Roost during the game a couple of times!!! I am sure he will come around eventually.

The Tapscott will make it.

My favorite moment of the match.

Shaw took an age to surface and when he did he was a very ginger 80 year old, meanwhile Tappy was off raring to get the ball.

Hey Fork. HaHa,,, did he leave his shadow impression on the MCG Turf. HaHaHa...

Or even a pin-heads jaw drop.... :P

Excellent first up game. [censored] that's a great kick coming off half back. Was super impressed as my expectations were very very low. Could be a tad short or does he just look short because he's so wide! Noticed twice where he kicked it long to players who expected it to fall shorter, both had to really stretch to reach the ball. Hope they bring in Gysberts and Frawley for the hawks. Out: Maric, MacDonald.

Extremely low. Lower than low. The bottomless pit low.

Roost It has at least owned up to being wrong (sort of).

Where are the heroes that ridiculed me for suggesting Tapscott play on a HBF a year ago..?

No not that low. Remember it's just one game but he showed plenty. 180 cm is short in the modern game. We were exposed for height down back yesterday and that almost cost us the game. Frawley will help that.

How were we exposed for height down back?

They only had two tall players take marks inside 50: Goodes (3) and Reid (2).

By comparison we had four talls mark inside 50: Jurrah (3), Dunn (2), Watts (1) and Jamar (1).

Once Garland shut out Goodes I don't think we were exposed at all. The damage was done by the smaller forwards in Bolton and McGlynn.

Accurate as usual.

Can anyone recall a better debut than that from an MFC player? I can't ...

To nitpick on a kid who's just racked up club b and f votes and probably a rising star nom in his first game, is ridiculous.

Trapper. But you might be too young to remember.

Accurate as usual.

They killed us in inside 50s until the last quarter. The ball moved down the southern wing virtually without opposition several times and small forward / midfielders were unmarked and hit up inside 50

I think that Tappy may have lost his opponent a few times - but then again his natural spot has been half forward.

It was a very impressive debut - he had the smarts just to belt it long sometimes.

A couple of serves of humble pie for "Roost It" please. Make them very large serves please.

Accurate as usual.

Well said. Its not a 180cm player that exposes you for height when you have Rivers. Garland and potentially Martin down back to deal with the marking forwards.

As Bob said, Garland shut out Goodes after 1/2 time.

Judy Garland played his best game for the MFC yesterday..Goodes did not touch the ball in the last Q. Considering the first half Goodes played that is a brilliant effort.

i was not fully sold on Garland until yesterday, but his last Q did it for me.

Gotta back it up next week....very important.

Tapscott is strong, has a beautiful beautiful kick. His only question marks will be his ability to play on smaller more agile opponents or those 190cm plus. Time will tell if he is good enough to cover these deficiencies. On yesterday's performance we have reason to be positive.

Could I have my pie with cream and berries please.

Fantastic overhead mark is our Tappy too !

IMO he will end up forward once some of our younger defenders mature and bulk up.

Until that happens he will learn from the best forwards in the game and provide awesome offensive pressure from our backline.

He is not unlike A. Jakovich in many ways.

Only that he will also be able to play further up the ground and provide penetrating kicks deep into the forward line as well.

definitely a one tick pony - and that trick is called playing footy.

loved his debut, and he's a definite next week.

I'm disappointed, two posts by you both containing continued criticism of Tappy, can't you just say "yeah he's not bad is he"?

Question him in ten weeks not after his first game which was apparently very good. I say that because i was in transit back to Australia yesterday when he game was being played and didn't see it.

I was over the moon when they called his name on draft day as I felt he would go early and was amazed when he was there at 18. To miss his first game was a real shame for me.

I never said that he didnt offer anything to the team today.

No, but you did say " will not be playing for the Demons next week!".

Still standing by that?

I reckon Roost It's last few posts in this thread have been very reasonable.

I think he makes a decent point re: Tapscott's long-term prospects as a defender, and I'm interested to see whether he'll carve out a career there or further up the ground.

Just reliving the moment. I thought it would be a good thing to share with the world. Sadly I'm using some pretty dodgy freeware video software so there's no sound. Still, enjoy.

so much man love for Tappy after today. Ready built footballer straight out of the box. Looked like a veteran. Would be happy to have 35 on the back of the jumper

I can think of two really great Demons who wore Number 35. Noel McMahen , premiership captain in our golden era and the fabulous Donny Williams. If luke can play like these two then he has a magnificent future. What a wonderful debut game from him. Love his build. Almost makes Chappy look under- nourished.

I don't disagree I just thought that, in view of his recent comments, he could have just left it at well done Tappy there'll be plenty of time and threads to voice criticism.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
