LUKE TAPSCOTT

a handful of VFL games and a practice match aren't considered hard facts, maybe hard up for facts would be more appropriate, and in my opinion your opinion is controversial

So, think of the HUGE amount of PROFESSIONAL football people that worked on picking up this young man and have now selected him to play...... Now, are you a professional football person? I'm going to assume you DON'T work full time for an AFL team, but you're telling us you know better than all these people?

You're blind negativity is just flat out not welcome around the MFC, I'm all for blunt assessments and honesty, but you're stand on this wreaks of ignorance and maybe even a bit of jealousy.

In the end, you are not voicing an opinion and can't use that as a defence, you are just showing an ability to comprehend simple things.

If you think Tapscott is useless then that reflects on those that selected him, if you don't like what's happening at MFC then get off the train cos we don't want whinging passengers any more.

There seems to be alot of excitement about a kid who is big and can kick. We'll see what happens but I don't think he'll make it at AFL level. I've got nothing against Tapscott and I love others enthusiasm I just don't share it.

Sounds like 2 tricks to me.

A one-trick pony forward who has been playing in the backline and has been named on a wing..?

Poor effort.

I thought it may have been your collingwood buddy commandeering your account again

Being big isn't a trick so it's back to one and yes your post was a poor effort but feel free to have another crack.

Interesting opinion and deflating to read Roost It.

I'm more excited having seen LT play at U18 level and I agree with Bailey's comments in the 2011 Season guide:

Luke fought injuries last year, including shoulder and other niggles. But to be fair to Luke, he needs to continue to get some training time into him and get his body ready. He's a very good set-shot for goal and a very good mark for his size. Luke has a strong pair of hands and given the opportunities, I know he'll take them and impact the game. He really plays an aggressive level of football.

As you say, we'll see what happens....fwiw we might not see a great deal this season, but I think we will thereafter.

PS. Whenever a draft pick has their debut for Mfc, there is always excitement on these boards and talking them up. It's the nature of the beast at Demonland.

If supporters of the club can't get excited about a new player debuting, then who can!

It's great to see a young player with potential running out for his first game with the MFC.

I haven't seen Tappy play, and am looking foward to seeing how he goes on Sunday.

Good luck Luke, I'll be cheering for you!

I can't for the life of me see why anyone would care what Roost It has to say, it's just an opinion and one that has no relevance to fact as he has no basis for the opinion.

All will be revealed after he's played a season or two.

moral of the story is if you want to post negative things about a MFC player on this site then you wont get many people to agree!

I made some negativeish posts about Jack Watts in another thread, but he's played a bit of AFL footy which were the grounds for my comments.

Tapscott on the other hand is about to debut, so i'll reserve my judgement. I'm fairly confident he'll be a long term player for us though

I'm super happy for people to get excited about new players, I normally do, just not on this occasion. I think Tapscott will be exposed at AFL level.

IT. IS. HIS. FIRST. GAME. FFS.

MOST players get exposed on their debut game.

Your opinion has been noted, let's just see how it pans out hey, pipe up again at the end of next season when he's actually had a chance and we'll see who will be 'exposed'.

Now, with your AMAZING ability to see the future without any kind of insight or knowledge whatsoever, please let us all know next weeks tatts numbers...

No I haven't seen him play. I would expect at VFL level he wouldn't get beaten for strength. Yes he certainly has a great kick. Does he have the nous and other tricks to make it at AFL level. I have my doubts.

In some of those youtube clips he bangs 55m goals from the boundry, That's a fair trick.

I don't know whether Tapscott will be a star... however I do know one thing.

Tapscott has had a VERY injury interrupted pre-season. He didn't play NAB cup and only played 1.5 vfl games. He didn't play any games last year due to injury so has no exposed form... and yet... he has been rushed in to the team and picked for round 1, the first opportunity the club has had to put him in the seniors. He has been picked ahead of regulars like Bate and has leapfrogged Strauss, Blease and Gysberts.

It is plainly obvious that the match committee rate him very highly, to chuck him in the seniors at the first real opportunity, despite a very limited preparation.

This reminds me of exactly how the match committee treated Garland in his 2nd season. I remember he'd just come off an 8-week injury leading up to round 1 and had only played one (pretty crappy) game in his first season... and yet the match committee played him, and kept playing him every opportunity they got.

Why? Because the match committee, which deals with the players day in day out, can see when a player has something special and is going to be a really good afl player. The coach clearly rate young Tapscott!

I think Tapscott will be exposed at AFL level.

What weaknesses are going to expose him? The main doubt I can think of may be a fatal lack of pace? My understanding is his attack on the contest, endurance and kicking are elite and he has the body size to make an impact - he adds a physical dimension that currently only Moloney provides.

Bam Bam is going to be ripper for the MFC.

He's playing because hes talented, aggressive and has a mans body.

Been looking forward to his first since the words "Luke...Tapscott" were spoken on draft day...

I mean, heavily criticizing the potential of a 19 year old who you've never even seen play... gotta be a troll

He's not a troll.

Just didn't think it through.

And we are entitled to comment (you would say attack) on your post, otherwise...

I'm not trolling just expressing anopinion people don't want to hear.

I'll be honest I don't even know why I think it, it's just a hunch and my hunch's are usually, in fact always correct.

Most people around here would know me as a fairly reasonable poster who sees the bright side of Demon life, on this I've taken the other road. We'll see how it comes out.

The match commitee can easily be wrong. Weetra, Miller, Newton, to name a few.

And yes Viney is a little suss on his left and I haven't even seen him!

People don't want to hear your opinion for the same reason they don't want to listen to The Veronicas - it's trash.

What sort of money do you want to part with when he underwhelms this season.

If my opinion was such trash why do so many respond to it?

Are you subtly implying that your "hunch's" (that are "in fact always correct") are the same as your Tatts numbers? or is this just noise to fill in a slow friday before the season starts...

What would Tapscott have to do on Sunday for you to get over this "hunch"?

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
