Tom Scully and GWS

So Scully is not allowed to enter the draft? Just watch who you play "hard ball" with when a player is potentially out of contract.

Just like the Saints played hard ball with the Pies! Just like the Eagles tried to play hard ball with the Blues.

Of course he can but there's no guarantee he'll get to the club of his choice. Luke Ball was a 26yo with an injury question mark - clubs steered clear, but clubs would be all over Scully and GWS has the first 3 picks in the ND and the 1st pick in the PSD.

We are the navy blues, the old dark navy blues. Now if they (The Visy Park Boys) were most likely to be the lowest finishing Victorian side I would be even more concerned. B) However, I'm not sure what relationship they would have with GWS if they needed them. I'm pretty sure they would have some salary cap room but not enough to accommodate Scully. Plus they dont have that beautiful draft pick in the bank as a bargaining chip.

What beautiful draft pick? Richmond have a END of first round compensation pick - are you seriously suggesting that GWS would trade one of their first 3 picks for Richmond's first rounder and an end of first round pick - if so just come out and say it. Port tried to trade picks 8 and 9 for our pick 2 in 2009 - no deal. Sydney tried to trade picks 6 and 14 for Richmonds pick 3 in 2009 - no deal. You're talking a a riddle of bullsh1t.

FFS get over it people... I seriously hope we aren't going to have a whole season of this...

FACT: Tom won't sign a contract to the end of the season next year, the reason being that is the advice from his manager which is great advice when at the end of the year you could be a 43 game gun with offers from GWS to drive your price up.

He will not doubt get an offer from GWS why wouldn't they. He will look at said offer and if it is mind blowing may just leave but it would need to be something fanstatic. He is a realist and knows he is in this game for a short amount of time and needs to make the best of it, but it is unlikely that he would get such a great offer like abletts.

If he got martins reputed 800K a year I think he would have to go but with them getting 1-3 draft picks next year I don't think they will have the money to spend it on someone who will be the same ages as those players. A doubling or tripling of ones pay market will make someone move a 100 maybe 200 will not especially things like family and being a champion of the MFC opens doors in Melbourne which aren't as likely if you are a champion of GWS.

He will always be on all clubs radars as i think he maybe a star of the competition which Melbourne haven't had since one R.Flower. but to move such a player the benefits need to be massive like the ablett or Judd deal

Then why didn't Martin..?

I never said that at all. You are putting words into my mouth.

What I said was we will just have to wait and see how the season unfolds as to what Richmond or any other team have to offer up for trade. Plus I'm not sure who "teams" will have "out of contract" and are "tradeable" to GWS to get more picks - Its only December. However, Tigers do have a head start with that banked pick from last year.

So its you who is fully of it. B)

Would he?

Then why didn't Martin..?

1) We don't know if that figure is real or BS most likely the 2nd

2) Martin is probably dumb enough not too

If he was offered 800K then that would be the doubling/tripling of the wage. He earn 135K this year will be on about 175K next year and would be looking around the 300 - 350 in his third year with bonus to obtain higher levels depending on the length of the contacts etc etc... Why wouldn't he leave for 800K.

I would be more worried about Col Sylvia as he is at the right age for them finally matured, a physical monster and will take the league by storm if he plays 22 games.

Back in may

He has now resigned so not on the same draft contact but was at the time

OMFG the Tigers have a track record of offering an 18 year old kid 800K a year!!! B)

Holy [censored]. What would they pay for Scully?

I agree the article is a crock of "shyte". B)

The same article that you, only minutes earlier hailed as (misinterpreted because you didn't read the article) proof of the Tigers offering outlandish deals to kids??

Wow. What you have done here is amazing.

Like George W Bush amazing.

Hail something that you don't know anything about and then disown that very thing a couple of minutes later.

Wow...

yes good call, I have conceded to myself that there is a good chance one of our beauties will go. You'd reckon Grimes, Jurrah and McKenzie are safe, for various reasons, but any of the others including Scully, Watts, Trengove, Morton and Frawley could well get pinched by someone at some point, and any of them would sting badly.

Why is Jurrah safe now? As soon as he got on the stage and showed his talent, you started MFCSSing about him up and leaving back to NT.

What's changed?

hehehe ... you are not as smart as I thought you where. I've told you before I dont believe what I read in newspaper. You should at least know that by now. But then again I also dont believe the GWS are our major threat either. B)

Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

This is what this thread reminds me of.

  • 2 weeks later...

Brad Hardie was saying in the sports chat today that Scully's management has announced all negotiations are off till the end of the year. I haven't read with this is true or not, we do know he is on their hit list with any other good player of note, so not big news there. Brad Hardie doesn't think scully will go but all the managers want everything on hold so they get overinflated values for their players in 2011.

FYI he also mentioned they are making a big play for Dale Thomas, pendalbury(? spelling), with thomas a big target. He also said they have already signed their marque player but wouldn't name who it was at this time.

Hopefully the club and the boys (teammates) get Scully's manager to play ball honestly, as the manager does work for Scully not the other way round.

Scully would be mad to go into negotiation right now...what if he's in AA form come rd 12? The guy will command more dough later in the season than now...we have the cap space, don't think he's going but why wouldn't he leverage himself with the GWS in the picture

I agree.

If Scully's manager/ agent advised him otherwise they should be fired on the spot.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
