Does this mean an A. Davey (27) will now replace Bruce on the veterans list???? Or Jamar?

It's my understanding you need to be at least 30 with 10 years of playing behind you to be a veteran? (Correct me if I'm wrong anyone) - so no-one else qualifies. And as half of a veteran's salary doesn't count for the cap, it's almost like a two for one deal as far as the cap goes.

I know Bruce doesn't seem to have a lot of fans here, but I will still miss him at games. I know we are pursuing a youth at all costs policy, but the youth need leadership while they are developing. We are running a little short of senior players this year. We can't expect kids only a year or two out of high school to front up against seasoned veterans and win the contests just because they are younger. There are tricks they need to learn, and it is better learning them from your own old dogs than learning them by getting your backside soundly whipped during a game.

Oh well, it's done now, no point crying about it.

love reading on the hawks board on bigfooty people going on about bruce's 'outstanding' kicking ability, WOW are they in for a shock!

Enough yap about losing old leaders. We have young players bursting at the seams to show their wares and willingness to shoulder leadership.

Out with the old and in with the new at last. We've largely got a new generation of players forging their own identity and hopefully success. The more responsibility thrust on them now the better. Thank god it's not the same old for another season.

DemonsHQ Melbourne FC:

The Dees confirm that Cameron Bruce will be leaving the club. He advised Dean Bailey of his decision this afternoon. Bruce will nominate for the national draft. The club thanks him for his outstanding career and we wish him well for the future.

Oh cam, please come back, I didn't mean it! I was just Joshin', we think your thre best athlete in the earthly wilderness. Don't leave us, not now, not when we need you.

Do you think that'll do it? Will he come back now?

Oh well, if you don't get a gig cam, we might rookie you. ;)

cost us about 4 goals from his direct turnovers in the last qrt

Thanks. A fitting Swan Song for the way he departed.

I wonder where Yze_Magic is, he hated Bruce haha (that is unless E25 and Yze_Magic aren't one in the same)

An old Chinese proverb that fits. "If the old won't go away then the new won't come".

you to, I was wondering the same thing, but only based on the No of posts.

They do sound like different characters to me. Their dialogue seems a different style.

sad day really. glad to see the club held strong, sad to see bruce leave. not sure there is a winner in this one.

his disposal got worse over the years, if only he would stop falling back on his kicking! a bad habit that never seemed to get corrected. still a very reliable footballer

Haha, no, I don't hate Bruce, I just find him incredibly frustrating.

And I was expecting to hear comparisons at some stage, but like deeluded said, I'd like to think the style in which I write is quite different.

Although, I am becoming a bit of an attention [censored]...

There was no sentiment from me, rather a touch of concern at the loss of Junior & Bruce as leaders. I do understand what is happening and back the club 100%.

I'm all for seeing a group that delivers a flag. Bruce was part of many decent sides that failed to get there and his departure allows for one of the kids to develop quicker, hopefully. It opens a spot in any case.

its a funny one, Bruce didnt walk until he had something else lined up, we have to asume. Bailey didnt tap him on the shoulder yet knew anything other than two was never going to be enough. competition for spots should bring out everyones best. have the footy dept managed to clone Brad Green yet?

Ok... now I don't like all this negativity.

Yes I will boo the bejesus out of the man when we next encounter him... but the guy was a decent contributor for our side and was playing some damn decent footy in the last 2 months of 2010 (keeping Ryan O'Keefe quiet a standout!).

He is a seasoned-bodied player that we can really do with. He is leadership material which we can REALLY do with.

We are now left without our 2010 captain and vice-captain (!!) and I think the MFC have just gulped knowing they let go of Junior Mac too early. Big OOPS! We needed to keep hold of at least one of those two men - we now have neither.

Our oldest player is now 29 years of age.

I got a phone call from my mate advising me of Bruce walking out and we are both livid and disappointed that an agreement could not be made. He is a guy our oh so young team can utulise and learn from - Bruce and Junior are BOTH now gone and now who do the rugrats learn from??? Green. THat's it.

I've read this thread and people will continue to abuse the man with the big receding hairline (no not Newton this time)... but in the end we lose a solid contributor, decrease our leadership group further, lose a rare seasoned campaigner as well as an overall nice bloke.

But we WILL get over it. Bruce is not a C. Judd. He is not a M. Pavlich. He is not a J. Brown. Losing Cam means, as I have earlier said, a Sammy Blease (top 20 draft pick and amongst our most promising players yet to debut) can have a regular go in the seniors.

That's my take.

He will be lucky to play 12 games for his new club.

Between his mindset and soft tissue injuries. It will look great we have the extra $$$ for players with real talent.IMHO

I don't want his style of leadership/maturity infecting the young blokes.Brad Green,Beamer,Jones and Aaron Davey will do nice enough thanks.

We have put up with likes of Bruce since '64.Close enough is not good enough.I for one am sick of waiting.WE need to be ruthless.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
