it's all been said, but this is a triple whammy

a) secured a highly credentialed and reputable assistant coach for our talented midfield

B) got another 'old boy' at the club, former captain and club champion who played with guts and passion, will be great for the culture of the place and the supporters

c) his appointment all but secures another elite midfielder for the near future. Talk about being spoiled when we already had probably the best 18-21 year old midfield stocks in the comp.

this is flag stuff

Easy Tiger...slow down. We gotta get there first.

But i do like your A B & C points! B)

GREAT news!

Have to admit I got rather excited when I heard he was leaving Hawthorn a couple of years back. Was certain he'd be coming home to the MFC. Instead, he went home to SA!! I was gutted!

Guess I was just two years too early with my excitement! Better late than never!

Welcome home, Todd!

I'm glad he went to South Australia. Great for his family & to get his talented Kid out of the firing line of starved supporters here in Melbourne.

And the continued learning for Todd in AFL circles, first the winning Hawks midfield & then the classic Crows mids, now bringing it back home.

Welcome back to Melbourne to the Viney clan...

Yes Neil Craig may not have won a flag yet, but i still rate him highly as a coach in many areas, Todd would have learnt a lot over the past 6 years, not forgetting 2008 at Hawthorn either.

Quadruple whammy -

d) There had been a couple of little murmurings that some players wanted more explicit targeting of development. That murmuring will be all done now, because they have a absolute top-rated assistant coach leading the development program.

I think the players will be well pleased to know that their feedback to the footy department was listened to, and acted on decisively.

This is great news

I think the Melbourne Football Club just won trade week

Love it!

Awesome Move

best news I've heard since Jim took over Presidency, absolutely brilliant stuff

Would still love to acquire Chris Scott as defensive coach.

Yes that would just top things off nicely.....

Neil Craig is know for his ability to condition players. Todd Viney has a background in conditioning professional sport, his experience with Hawthorn, Adelaide will make him very valuable to our club. It is amazing what a little bit of cash can do for a club, you can start to invest in the future rather then continue to pay for the past.

It is amazing the bond that seems to be with the players that played together through the late 80's and the 90's. They have all come back to the club and seem to be working together to achieve the premiership that we all want.

Maybe John Northey could pop in for the odd speech. I hope he is quietly enjoying the MFC rebuild from wherever he is now (Queensland???)

Absolutely stoked to have Toddles back at the club it p/d me off no end to see him at Hawthorn.

Brilliant news! definately made my day! favourite son coming back to the MFC!

The fact that we can create a new role and add to the football department shows how far we have come!

We can now invest more money in the development of this young side!

And we combined that with an experienced favorite son!

It's a beautiful thing...

Brilliant news in every way. As an aside, I can't help thinking what a bit of Todd's influence might have on Jordie McKenzie's progress over the next year or so. The way Jordie plays has always reminded me of a young Todd.

interesting article pointing to Jack Viney coming to us...

http://www.afc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/4417/newsid/104084/default.aspx

Harper said Viney had made the decision to quit the Crows and return to Melbourne based on what was best for his 16-year-old son, Jack.

Harper said it was clear the Viney family expected Jack to play for Melbourne.

"Todd and Meagan have got a young son Jack, who is a good footy player and they're a fair way down the track of him going father-son to Melbourne," Harper said.

"If that happens he ends up in Melbourne doing Year 12 without his family and trying to play AFL footy, which is probably a recipe for disaster.

Oh it's all happening!!!

Well done Dees. Welcome back, Todd!!!

The path has been paved for our next Jack.... :)

Tough question: But which "Jack" will be our BEST? Grimes, Trengove, Watts or Viney??? WOWZA!!!!

Ahem...

And that Todd only moved to back to Adelaide a couple of years ago, I don't think he'd want to move again anytime soon.

Woops.

Fantastic news. I don't think anyone saw this coming.

And Jack coming to us is a certainty now. A sudden decision from Todd makes me think his son has just made up his mind...

Couldn't ask for a better guy to develop young men. I'm really bloody excited :):)

BEST. NEWS. EVER!

Hard to disagree! At the very least, its easily the best news of the year. Jack is now a certainty(if he wasn`t already) and Todd was deeply involved in a Premiership only 2 years ago, which has got to be a massive bonus for our push.

I`m stoked!

Fitzpatrick perhaps?? If Jack has the heart of his old man he`ll be hard to beat!

It is a great coup for the Demons and it is good to see that it is finally WE who are poaching from other clubs.

And re Jack: if the kid is half as tough and honest as his father then we have a great player in the making. Hopefully he kicks better than his old man :)

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
