Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

2010 Player Review - # 16 Jack Grimes

A fine start to the year but a round-14 hamstring injury suffered against St Kilda cruelled his campaign. Came back late in the year with Casey but was eventually rested for the season. A role in the midfield and the leadership group looms for 2011 - Luke Holmesby melbournefc

Not much to say.

Gun kid, should spend more time in the midfield and join the leadership group in 2011, has had bad luck with injuries.

Could be anything, but at worst he'll be very good.

Please, please, please get your body right Jack!! You will be a star when you can get it right and play a full season

Agree that Jack's future looks very bright indeed if he can get his body right. Does anybody know whether there is any connection between the back problems he suffered earlier in his career and his more recent hamstring problem. The possibility that they might be related is something that has concerned me for a while.

Yes- get him away from defence where his placement kicking and kicking in from behind has been a negative.Need to improve dramatically in this area to be a penetrating midfielder. But if he can overcome these potential to be an elite player IMO.

I trust Jack's kicking almost as much as anyone else in the team. Probably our most accurate, and daring kick.

I think Jack should make the move to the midfield next year.

I believe he has been used in defence out of necessity, however with the Frawley and Garland becoming better rebounders, and Bruce, Bail, McDonald and even Bennel as options, its time to move Grimes to where he will have the biggest and most positive impact. His defensive skills will also be useful in the midfield.

Look at all the premiership/grand final teams of recent times. They've all had 3-4 elite runners. Collingwood (Pendles, Swan, Didak, Thomas), StKilda (Montagna, DalSanto, Hayes, Goddard).

Our midfield stars could be: Scully, Trengove, Grimes. Add in Gysberts, Tapscott, Gysberts, Blease surrounding them...

Well said.

The guy is a very good, deliberate kick. If he turns it over it is because (on the whole) he is adhering to team structures and instructions to move the ball quickly and through the corridor.

There is nothing wrong with his kicking and I look forward to his presence anywhere on the field next year - whichever line coach wins the argument.

great player...,injuries and his development may have cost his chance to play midfield for the time...scully and trengove might keep him out for another year. i think a bloke like blease will too...

i worry with a possible cap on rotations how his body will hold up...plus we might play finals next year...but then agan i like to worry. 14 games this year shows he's worth it

I am not ashamed to admit my massive man-crush on this bloke!

Get his hammer and tack right and the competition will see just how good this kid is in 2011.

I agree also! But dont really think he will be a permanent midfielder. I see him more as a Goddard type who can swing from position to position during the match depending on how the game is progressing. Would love to see him thrown forward every know and again to use his great ability of reading the ball during its flight and sliding across and taking a pack mark

i'd let him have me

but to say there is no issue with his disposal is simply not right, same goes for Scull

Too true- both a wobbly at times..Sculls actually the worse..both needs assistance in this area

For Grimes, I think his decision making lets him down at times. That's what makes his kicking look bad.

Scully's a first year player - has to be expected.

But Grimey was great early on this year. His courageous marking was a highlight.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
