This is where I differ to most later generations to mine! Everone deserves respect as a birthright.

Millsy deserves extra respect on top of the normal respect as an appreciation for his great efforts on behalf of our club & us, giving his all to our mutual interests.

Never was a fan of his (like most) but he definitely deserves a pat on the back. Always a hard-working footballer and his endeavor would never be questioned.

Well I guess Miller should have been delisted a few years ago. If Melbourne had of listened to me we would have actually got something back for him (when he had a bit of currency)a few years ago, before others realised he was a hack. Oh well.

Players make a name for themselves around the club as to who is a 'clubman' and who is earning a cheque. Miller has earned 'clubman' status and thus a farewell game. This is something the club works out and does not need to be spelled out in terms of games. Farewell seasons are a thing of the past but seriously you’re kidding yourself if you think we're denying ourselves something if one young bloke doesn't bust in for a match. We earn more from having a better culture and showing respect to a player on the way out demonstrates this in an age when the club has fewer levers (i.e. dollars and free agency around the corner) to use. I’d reckon all the other players take notice of how the club treats people who are leaving.

My other comments was an aside. The issue is that if the MFC season finishes and the player continues to play in the finals for Casey and gets injured while playing, MFC are a prima facie liable to cover that players medical expenses for the next 12 months. My explanation might have to be tightened by those closer to the issue but its been something that has been implemented before with the alliances at Casey and Sandy.

Still haven't got over round 22 2007 playing blokes who were no longer the future whilst wasting valuable game time for our youngsters.

No disrepsect to Miller who deserves the utmost respect, but please don't promote him at the expense of many youngsters we have.

I'd take a Miller farewell game over a tired and worn out Jack Trengove who has barely been able to contribute a thing over the last fortnight.

Yes the same bunch of sooks that are constantly complaining in the media that they dont get enough recognition for their youngsters that we do. They just beat the Wooden Spooners for 2010 yesterday, what a courageous effort.

And if we happen to beat them this week we'd finish a mere half a game behind them for the year. Look at their performances against the Top 4 and the aggregate margins of those games compared to ours.

They beat West Coast in Perth. We lost to them at the MCG!

North Melbourne has had a very solid year. I don't think they're in our league in terms of excitement. But they are very reliable and will probably teach us a lesson again this week (unless our players decide to pull their finger out and show some respect to their captain, as North did.)

As per interview with CC on SEN this morning, the club is leaving it to Brad to decide. Brad also wants to contribute to Casey in the finals seeing as he has been there all year.

A senior player will replace him anyway at Casey but fair enough Brad thinks of Casey's final, pretty much sums up the ethics of the man.

Farewell, Brad. Never really managed to live up to the lofty heights that your first season teased us with. But, always gave your best, and you've been a great club man. Can's ask any more than that!

Thats the information I have is that he is happy in Melbourne and given Pia's career he wont be going to GC. I understand he is realitic about his chances re AFL football and will probably seek a role in the VFL.

Despite his limitations Brad has been a great servant of our club - and deserves every support. But I'm not sure that we should set a precedent by giving a farewell game to players who have played less than 150 games. I recognize that his recent performances at Casey have probably earned him promotion - but if he wasn't the right player after a 10 goal game - then he is not the right player after sharing a 5 goal game with Matthew Bate.

I hope his desire to be part of a Casey premiership team prevails - from all points of view.

no longer required - so here is a game Brad. that doesn't wash with me. as beamer said we're on a straight line - keep playing the kids and get games into them and stay the course.

Also, Miller has outstanding leadership, as evinced by the fact that he's been in Melbourne's leadership group for years, despite not even being in our best 25 players for the past 2-3 years. His off-field leadership added to his ability to work his but off at training, will be useful to a young group.

In fact, these exact characteristics are what kept Miller on our list this season, with such a young and impressionable group.

However, we are now moving to a new phase, both on and off the field. I like the analogy that 'we're at base camp'. We're ready to move forward to become genuine final contenders. We're ready to be a feared club. We're no longer a group of defenseless youngsters who needed a guy like Miller for guidance of how to train properly.

In this new phase, Miller has been rendered redundant. He has been a good servant, but he is a smart guy and he understands whats going on. You can't expect a spot on a list of a finals team based purely on off-field strengths.

Agree that Miller offers a great role model for leadership, preparation and commitment that GC would value. But I'd be surprised if they pick him up - Miller has the physical attributes to play the game as you point out but unfortunately for him he's just not a natural footballer - we'd be keeping him if he was. Yes he's got a big body, but it would be a big body getting in the way, there's not much Brad can teach the GC youth about how to play the game. It's similar for Belly, he can't play in the backline because his decision making lets him down - stopper or defensive forward are the only roles he can play and it would have to be for a contender looking to fill those roles, not as a teacher at a start-up club. I often thought that Belly followed instructions too literally - always looking to dispose to advantage as instructed and often got caught out - no intuition for the game. It's a testament to the character of both of them that they've been on the list for so long. Godders, Walshy, Nicho etc - they join a list remembered fondly.

Perhaps I do not fully grasp how much this farewell game means to players and teams. Don't understand what bearing this would have on any unrequired players playing for Casey however..

i have played in many team enviroments in many different sports and i totally agree with rhino`s sentiment.
